I have decided to start my book with no other phrase than this, simply because this is where the title as well as the entire concept of my illustrations came from. “Not a fan, not a stalker”, but an individual, who has drawn inspiration from a non-conventional model, different from all others. I would like to point out that I am not one of those people, the so-called fans, who simply pin somebody’s picture to their wall. I am an artist, who has been inspired by this very person ever since the first day I watched a promotional video from a Galliano fashion show. That was when everything changed. Up until recently I could not understand what this phrase means, what it is like to discover your muse, who you want to draw in every single way, what it is like to be unable to sleep until you do. I guess this is what it is like to be incapable of resisting something… I made a sketch of him for the first time when I got an assignment at the art academy where I study. The task was to draw a person we admire in some way. I knew how I was going to depict him right away. Andy perpetuated Marilyn’s iconic status through his work in a way that has been emulated ever since, but what is more important is the meaning behind a certain work of art. This art book, as I shall call it, is not just a book containing illustrations; it is not a sketchbook, but an art book where apart from illustrations you put in something else, something much more important. But you will find out what it is only after you take a look and read all this. The reactions I got have led me to believe that ordinary people, who take no interest in this field, cannot comprehend this idea. They think that you are obsessed, a fan – a word that does not always have positive connotations, but has taken on a new meaning – that of a maniac. This is why the book is entitled Stalker, because I have discovered an alternate meaning of this word. For years I have been searching for something to draw today, something which fires your imagination and compels you to sit for days doing so. So, I will say no more and let you see for yourselves, through my prism, what I saw in LAWSON RHYS TAYLOR.
