ELEVATED TRANQUILITY
ACADAMIC PROJECT // SEMESTER 3 // 2021
Nestled in the embrace of nature’s tranquility, the WEEKEND COTTAGE stands as a testament to the harmonious union of architecture and the pristine surroundings. This project, undertaken with the desire to craft a weekend haven for a family of four—comprising a father, mother, and two children—presents an opportunity to escape the hustle of daily life and immerse oneself in the serene ambiance next to a captivating waterfall. The PRIMARY OBJECTIVE was to create a tranquil retreat that seamlessly integrates with the existing contours of the site, ensuring minimal disturbance to the natural landscape.
DESIGN EVOLUTION
Phase 1
The site comprises of a contour variation of 4m with an access road at top level. The site has a stunning water fall view towards the south east and south west sides.
Phase 2
The site is carefully added with 3 splitted levels without affecting its natural slope in order to create modules on these levels for creating the initial massing of the residence.
Phase 3
Modules are placed along the top and middle levels and at the southern side, a pool is introduced inorder for it to act as a buffering area for the heat that can be gained from the southern sun.
Phase 4
A central courtyard is cut open in middle providing better natural lighting and ventilation into all the room in the building.Openings towards the north is also maximised at the top and middle levels.
