GOALS (...not in the way kids say it these days) Boston College scored seven goals at Massachusetts on Saturday night, including two power play goals and two short-handed goals. BC has not scored a pair of short-handed goals in a game since the Eagles did at the Mullins Center on Jan. 22, 2016. In three of their last six games, the Eagles have scored at least six goals. They are now averaging 3.89 goals per game which is 13th best in the nation and third most in Hockey East.

POWER PLAY PATROL Boston College scored a pair of power play goals at Massachusetts, marking the second occasion the Eagles have found the back of the net with the extra skater this season. BC did it against Colorado College, as well. The Eagles have converted on six of their 49 power play chances at a rate of 12.2 percent.

GOAL GANG Senior assistant captain Austin Cangelosi and sophomore Colin White have both scored five goals this season, leading the Eagles in that department. At UMass, White netted his sixth-career power play goal and added another tally for his fifth-career multi-goal game as an Eagle. Also in Amherst, Cangelosi scored his first power play goal of the season and seventh of his career in addition to his third-career short-handed goal. The Estero, Fla. native logged his sixth-career multi-goal game as an Eagle.

IN THE RED The Eagles are outscoring their opponent at a significant margin and own the eighth-best mark in the NCAA. Boston Collegeâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s +1.67 goal differential is second in Hockey East (BU 2.40) as the Eagles have netted 35 goals and given up only 20. In the Providence / UMass weekend, Boston College doubled its opponent, 10-5. 2

KIM KAN Sophomore defenseman Michael Kim attained his second-career multi-point game with another two-assist performance at UMass on Saturday night. The Toronto, Ontario native leads the Eagles in the assist category with seven. Amongst all defensemen nationally, Kim ranks 48th in scoring with 0.78 points per game.

YES-PER Rookie defenseman Jesper Mattila scored his second-career goal on Saturday night at Massachusetts and added the assist on BC’s first short-handed goal of the year. For the newcomer, it marked his first-career multi-point game as an Eagle. Through nine games, Mattila has racked up two goals and three assists with a +7 rating.

RISING TO THE TOP In six games, Boston College’s defense is surrending only 2.22 goals per game, 13th best in the country and third best on the conference level. Despite being the sixth most penalized team in college hockey thus far (21.9 PIMs / game), the Eagles’ penalty-killing unit has done a good job, snuffing out 51-of-62 opportunities at a rate of 82.3 percent.

GOALIE GANG In Boston College’s home opener against Colorado College on Friday, freshman netminder Ryan Edquist earned his first-career start as an Eagle. The Lakeville, Minn. Native stopped 23 shots in his debut. Edquist followed it up with his second-straight win by stopping 14 shots at UMass on Oct. 28. Classmate Joe Woll started off BC’s quest in Hockey East play with a 2-2 draw at Merrimack. Woll has a goals against average of 2.13 (18th in the NCAA) while his save percentage of .931 ranks 13th in college hockey. The Dardenne Prairie, Mo. native is 4-2-1 (.643) and owns Hockey East’s fourth-best winning percentage thus far. 3

BOSTON COLLEGE vs. MAINE

Boston College stays on the road for its eighth and ninth games out of its first 11 on the road when the Eagles play Maine on the road for two. Friday night, BC will take on Maine at Cross Insurance Arena in Portland before hiking it up to Orono for a 7 p.m. game on Saturday night. It’s been over a year since the Black Bears managed to score a goal against Boston College as BC shutout the Black Bears, 3-0 and 2-0, respectively, on Nov. 6-8, 2015, at Kelley Rink. BC and Maine have never played in Portland but the Eagles will be looking for their first victory at Alfond Arena since Nov. 2, 2012. BC has lost its last two contests in Orono. In fact, Boston College has gone 2-6-2 in the last 10 journeys up to Orono. When BC and Maine faceoff in Portalnd, it will mark the 120th contest of the series as Boston College owns a 64-46-9 record overall. Head coach Jerry York is 6-2 against Maine’s Red Gendron, who is in his fourth season at the helm of the Black Bears.

BLACK BEAR BEAT

Maine one won eight games last year and has already claimed three victories in its first eight outings this season. The Black Bears actually started the season with a 3-0 mark after they swept Rensselaer (5-1, 4-2) and took out Quinnipiac in overrtime, 4-3. But since Maine has hit the road, it has gone 0-2-2, losing and tying a game to both Miami (Ohio) and Colgate. Maine has found a hero in freshman Mitchell Fossier as the newecomer has scored all three game-winning goals for the Black Bears. Heading into this weekend, Fossier is the only player in college hockey with that many game-winning tallies. He leads the club with nine points (6-3-9) and is tied for 12th, nationally, amongst all rookies in scoring. Maine’s offense and defense are relatively similar as the Black Bears are averaging 2.88 goals per game (33rd - NCAA / 10th - HEA) while the defense is yielding 3.00 goals per game (T-28th - NCAA / 9th - HEA).

GAME notes WATCH OUT FOR WHITE

With his multi-goal effort and an assist at UMass on Oct. 29, Colin White reached the 50-point plateau in just 45 games as an Eagle. The Hanover, Mass. native averaged 1.11 points per game to get to 50 points as he posted an even balance of scoring (24 goals) and playmaking (26 assists).

STREAKIN’

Boston College is 5-0-1 in its last six outings, tied for the second-longest unbeaten streak in the nation (Denver 6-0-0). The Eagles’ mark is best in the league and second in the nation only to Ohio State (5-0-2). The Eagles also possess the most points in the early goings of Hockey East play, notching five points in three conference games.

BATTLE TESTED

In the month of October, only two other teams played as much hockey as Boston College did. The Eagles faced off nine times in college hockey’s opening month (6-2-1), matching the number of outings Union underwent. The only team to play more game other than BC and Union is Alabama-Huntsville (10).

IT’S HARD TO HOLD A CANDLE IN THE COLD OCTOBER RAIN

Boston College pieced together a 6-2-1 mark in October, tying Union for the 13th-highest winning percentage in college hockey. Both Matthew Gaudreau and Patrick Brown led the Eagles in the scoring deparment with eight points (3-5-8) in the opening month of play. Rookie netminder Joe Woll has amassed a 4-2-1 mark in his first month while classmate Ryan Edquist is an unblemished 2-0-0.

YORK TO MISS TIME

Boston College men’s head hockey coach Jerry York will underwent an outpatient eye procedure last week and will miss this weekend’s games against Maine. Associate head coach Greg Brown will lead the team in York’s absence. York will return back to the Eagles’ bench as soon as possible.

FRESHMEN FINDING THEIR GROOVE

Following Boston College’s two non-conference victories over Colorado College and Holy Cross, 12 of 13 freshmen that has dressed for the Eagles all now have at least one point. Luke McInnis (Holy Cross), Mike Booth (Holy Cross) and Jesper Mattila (Colorado College) all scored their first-career goals as Eagles while Graham McPhee posted a playmaker (three assists) at Holy Cross. David Cotton leads the rookies with six points (2-4-6).

THE DUDE ABIDES

Sophomore JD Dudek not only scored his first-career short-handed goal at UMass on Oct. 29, it marked the Eagles’ first short-handed strike of the season. Austin Cangelosi followed suit with a short-handed goal at 13:27 of the third to give BC a pair of goals down a pair of skaters. Boston College has not scored a pair of short-handed goals in a game since the Eagles did it in the exact same spot on Jan. 22, 2016. Cangelosi and Miles Wood both scored short-handed goals at the Mullins Center last year.

CHART TOPPER

Senior assistant captain Ryan Fitzgerald netted his third goal of the season and the 57th of his career on Oct. 29 at UMass. The North Reading, Mass. native continues to shoot up the career goal charts and is now tied for 44th all-time on The Heights with Bob Reardon (1970-73) and Ben Smith (2006-10).

GAME notes SWIFT SCORING

Freshman David Cotton scored his second goal of the season on Sunday, Oct. 16 at Wisconsin 10 seconds into the contest. Cotton’s tally marks the Eagles’ quickest goal since at 2008 when Matt Price scored 11 seconds in against Northeastern on March 7, 2008.

MOTTAU TO HANG FROM THE RAFTERST

Former Boston College defenseman and Hobey Baker winner Mike Mottau (1997-2000) will have his jersey retired on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016 at Kelley Rink. The ceremony will take place when the Eagles welcome Minnesota to Conte Forum at 1 p.m. The Avon, Mass. native will become the 13th Eagle in Boston College hockey history to have his jersey retired. The 6-foot-0 blue liner is Boston College’s career record holder for most assists all-time (130) and 22nd, all-time, in points scored on The Heights (27 - 130 - 157). He played in 163 career games for the maroon and gold, tying him for ninth all-time. In his four years, the Eagles amassed a record of 99-52-14. Mottau’s 157 career points are also the most ever by an Eagle defenseman.

JANNEY TO BE ENSHRINED

Former BC standout Craig Janney (1985-87) is part of the United States Hockey Hall of Fame Class of 2016 and is the the sixth Eagle to earn the distinction, joining Bill Guerin (Class of 2013), Brian Leetch (Class of 2008), John Cuniff (Class of 2003), Len Ceglarski (Class of 1992) and John A. “Snooks” Kelley (Class of 1974) as former Eagles inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame. At The Heights, Janney played in 71 games over the course of the 1985-86 and 1986-87 seasons, accruing 110 points (41-69-110) under head coach Len Ceglarski. While an Eagle, BC put together a record of 57-23-3, while winning the Hockey East Tournament in his freshman season. In his second season Janney garnered All-America first-team honors, along with being named All-Hockey East firstteam, Hockey East Tournament-All-Tournament, All-New England and earned the John A. Tiernan Memorial Award.

BIG - TIME VENUES

Boston College plays a rather unique schedule in 2016-17, playing at venues such as CONSOL Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, for the College Hockey Classic and will shortly after combat Providence outdoors at Fenway Park for the fourth time in program history. The Eagles are also fortunate enough to play on one of the world’s most famous stages, Madison Square Garden, against defending national champion North Dakota in the College Hockey Showdown, on December 3, 2016.

Since Jerry York led his first Boston College team to the 1998 Frozen Four, the Eagles are one of three teams with at least 500 victories since that point. Defending national champion North Dakota leads the pack with 512 victories, while Boston College (509) and Michigan (503) have also eclipsed the 500 mark over the past 19 seasons.

Upon completion of the 2015-16 season, Boston College maintained its best overall winning percentage in Hockey East history for the third-consecutive season. Over the course of 32 seasons in league play, the Eagles’ winning percentage of .682 (472-256-82) reigns supreme in one of college hockey’s top conferences.

Jerry York’s overall record is 1,018-601-111 (.621) in 45 seasons as a head coach at Clarkson, Bowling Green and Boston College; he owns the most victories of any Division 1 coach in the history of college hockey. York is 36-13 in NCAA Tournament games as the head coach at Boston College; his 41 wins overall in the NCAA Tournament is also the highest total in Division I history.

Frozen Four appearances in the last 19 years; the highest total among all teams in college hockey. Only Boston College (12), North Dakota (10), Michigan (six), Minnesota (five), Michigan State (three) and Denver (three) have advanced to more than two Frozen Fours during that time period.

Sophomore forward Colin White was selected by the Ottawa Senators 21st overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, becoming the 17th Eagle in the last 29 years to have been drafted in the first round of the NHL.
