Captains Casey Fitzgerald and Christopher Brown along with newcomer Christopher Grando lead Boston College in goal scoring through the first nine outings. All three Eagles have each scored three goals this season while Fitzgerald is BC's overall leading scorer, having accrued six points (33-6) thus far. BC's leading goal-scoring triumvirate all found the back of the net in the weekend sweep over Merrimack.

First-year center Aapeli Rasanen notched his first-career multi-point performance my doling out a pair of assists on Saturday night at Merrimack. The Tampere, Finland native now has four helpers on the year, tied for the team lead with Logan Hutsko. It marked Boston College's second multi-assist performance of the season and first since Hutsko's pair at Providence on Nov. 15.

SPECIAL TEAMS' SURPRISE

The Eagles boast a sturdy freshmen class as Christopher Grando and Logan Hutsko lead the charge for the newcomers. Grando tallied his first-career game-winning goal early on in the contest at Merrimack on Nov. 4 while Hutsko is now leading the team in the assists department with five thus far. The Tampa, Fla. native assisted on Julius Mattila's short-handed goal in the win over UConn and is is currently tied for 38th in the country in scoring amongst freshmen, averaging 0.60 points per game (2-4-6).

Boston College used a power play goal and a short-handed counter attack to outlast Connecticut on Nov. 7 in a 2-1 victory. Julius Mattila scored his first goal of the season and did so while on the penalty kill. Mattila notched the Eagles' first short-handed goal of the season and it stands as his secondcareer shorty. Michael Kim scored his first goal of the season in power play fashion, counting as the game-winner. Kim's goal counted as both his second-career power play strike and game-winning goal.

Boston College is being led offensively by junior defenseman Casey Fitzgerald 3-3-6) through the opening month this season. He scored a pair of goals at PC on Oct. 15 and one at Merrimack on Nov. 4. Amongst Hockey East defensmen, the junior is tied for ninth in scoring overall (0.67 points per game).

Sophomore backstopper Joseph Woll has stopped 201-of-222 shots faced in his first eight outings for a .905 save percentage which is currently 49th in all of college hockey while his 2.62 goals against average ranks 37th in the game. Woll has stopped 1,113 - of - 1,221 shots faced (.912 save percentage) with a career mark of 2.64 goals against average. Woll was also one of 20 goalies named to the watch list for the 2018 Mike Richter Award, which annually honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I menâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s hockey.

KEEPING THE DAMAGE TO A MINIMUM Boston College's defense has done a stellar job at limiting the opponent in the first few weeks of the season. In six of the Eagles' first 10 outings, their opponent has not scored three or more goals, including the last three outings where the opponent has one scored once. The Eaglesâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; defensive corps has surrendered 2.80 goals per game, ranking it 32nd nationally and tied for fourth at the conference level.

EDDIE THE EAGLE Sophomore goaltender Ryan Edquist earned his first win of the 2017-18 season after stopping 27 shots in a 2-1 victory over UConn. Edquist's first start came on Oct. 20 at St. Cloud State as he stopped a career-best 42 shots in the decision. He also came in with 1.6 seconds left at Merrimack and made a game-tying save to preserve an Eagle victory.

BOSTON COLLEGE vs. VERMONT Boston College journeys up to Burlington this weekend to break up a seven-game streak staged at Kelley Rink between the Eagles and Catamounts. This weekend's series marks BC's first trip to Gutterson Fieldhouse since Feb. 19-20, 2016 where the Eagles swept Vermont, 3-1 and 4-1, respectively. That sweep ignited a 6-1-2 run against UVM since that series as Boston College earned its revenge over Vermont. The Catamounts rallied back to oust the Eagles in the 2015 Hockey East quarterfinal round, curbing a long run for BC to TD Garden for the Hockey East semifinals. In last year's regular-season meetings on The Heights, no victor was determined after 130 mnutes and the clubs skated to respective 3-3 and 2-2- draws on Feb. 17-18, 2017. Vermont is a common playoff foe for BC as the Eagles possess an 8-3 mark in Hockey East quarterfinal meetings and a 10-3 mark, overall, in the Hockey East tournament. In the overall series, BC possesses a 43-16-7 mark with a 28-7-5 win-loss total in Hockey East play.

CATAMOUNT CALL Vermont skates into this weekend's set with a 3-5-1 mark, including a 1-1-1 total in Hockey East play. The Catamounts took a trip to Hartford last weekend and splut with UConn, losing the front end 5-1 and responding with a 4-2 victory. UVM also made a trip to Yost on Oct. 20-21 and got swept by Michigan but responded against one of Hockey East's top teams in the early goings, New Hampshire, with a 4-4 draw on Oct. 28. Vermont is lead by dynamic sophomore Ross Colton who has scored 30 percent of UVM's offense himself. Colton has scored seven goals this season, trying him for sixth in the nation with 0.78 goals per game and leads all of Hockey East with his seven tallies. Four of Colton's seven strikes have come via the power play. Sophomore Stefanos Lekkas has gotten the brunt of the work for UVM early on, settling on a 2.98 goals against average (53rd nationally) and a .914 save percentage (32nd nationally). Lekkas anchors a defense that is tied for 33rd in college hockey (3.00 goals per game) and tied for seventh in the conference while the offense is averaging 2.56 goals per game, tied for 40th nationally.

SHORTY SZN Sophomore Julius Mattila scored his team-leading second-career short-handed goal on Nov. 7 against Uconn. The Tampere, Finland native is one of 29 skaters in all of college hockey to have found the back of the net while on the penalty kill.

ATOP THE LEADERBOARD Boston College might have had a slow start in the non-conference slate, but the Eagles have responded well in conference play. Winning their last three games (Merrimack, UConn) and an OT win over Providence, the Eaglesare all alone in first place in the Hockey East standings, having accrued eight points with a 4-1 record to the early goings of the conference slate.

IN THE COLD OCTOBER RAIN It's no secret Boston College has skated off to a 1-5-1 start in Novrmbrt, but the Eagles, by far, had the toughest nonconference schedule in the country. In October, combined, BC's opponents went 23-6-3 and are currently ranked No. 1 (Denver), No. 2 (St. Cloud State), No. 6 (Providence), No. 7 (Wisconsin) and No. 11 (Quinnipiac), respectively. The Eagles look to turn the page on October and turn things around in conference play. The Eagles have turned things around in November, sweeping Merrimack on Nov. 3-4 to start 2-0 on the season.

FITZ ON THE FRITZ Junior defenseman Casey Fitzgerald notched his second-career two-goal game (at Holy Cross – Oct. 22, 2016), including the overtime winner 69 seconds into the extra session to give the Eagles their first win of the season at Providence on Oct. 15. Fitzgerald’s game-winning goal stands as the third of his career as the North Reading, Mass. native accounted for a pair last season. For his big showing, the captain was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 16.

DÉJÀ VU The last time Boston College scored an overtime winner was when Casey Fitzgerald's older brother, Ryan, scored the walkoff winner in game three of the Hockey East quarterfinals two years ago against Vermont on March 13, 2016.

THE EAGLES GO MARCHING IN The Eagles fell victim to a 3-0 deficit in the first 25:16 of regulation at Providence on Oct. 15. Boston College gathered itself and stormed back from a three-goal deficit to win for the first time since November 16, 2012 when the Eagles came back and beat Merrimack at home, 4-3.

First-year forward Jacob Tortora scored the Eagles’ first goal of the season, marking the third time in the last five seasons a rookie lit the lamp for the first time of the year. In 2015-16, Miles Wood scored BC’s first goal at Army on Oct. 9, 2015 while Ian McCoshen’ started off the scoring for BC at Yost Ice Arena at Michigan on Oct. 10, 2013.

A funky note came to light following Boston College’s 1-1 tie against Quinnipiac in the home opener on Oct. 6. Boston College recorded its first regular-season draw to open the season since the 1922-23 season, and second ever in program history with the 1-1 stalemate on Friday night. The Eagles tied the Boston Hockey Club on Oct. 25, 1922, 3-3.

EAGLETS For the third time in four seasons, Boston College sports the youngest roster in NCAA hockey. As of Oct. 1, the average age of the Eagles roster is 20 years and 125 days. Boston University is second with a mean just two days short of 20 years and 127 days. Michigan is the third youngest team at 20 years and 324 days.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT THAT GUY... Boston College’s head coach Jerry York needs no introduction as the Eagle skipper skates into his 24th season at the helm on The Heights and 46th season in all. York’s 1,036 victories are the most of any Division I coach in the history of college hockey, more than 100 wins clear of the former leader, Ron Mason (Michigan State - 924). York is one of only three coaches in NCAA history to lead two different schools to national titles; led Bowling Green to the 1984 NCAA title, and Boston College to the 2001, 2008, 2010 and 2012 NCAA titles. He is the all-time leader in NCAA Tournament wins with 41 victories, as well, and has led 22 teams to 25 or more wins.

OPENING NIGHT EAGLES After leading the National Hockey League with having 24 former Boston College Eagles dressing in at least one NHL game last season IN 2016-17, BC once again paces the college hockey world with the most delegates on NHL opening night rosters with 19 to start off the 2017-18 slate. Prior to NHL franchises trimming their respective clubs to their opening night rosters, Boston College led the pack with 33 alumni earning training camp invitations, followed by Minnesota (29), Michigan (28), North Dakota (28) and Boston University (27). The top six programs are: Boston College (19), Michigan (17), North Dakota (16), Minnesota (15), Boston University (14) and Wisconsin (11).

SHOW BIRDS Starting off the 2017-18 season, with 548 former NCAA players having reported to National Hockey League training camps for preseason preparation, the Boston College men’s hockey program led the way with 33 representatives spread out over 18 franchises. As has been the way in the past, the Eagles’ professional pedigree shined through as BC led all schools with 33 alumni earning training camp invitations, followed closely by Minnesota (29), Michigan (28), North Dakota (28) and Boston University (27).

THE COLDEST PROGRAM OF ‘EM ALL When the Eagles took on Quinnipiac in the 2016 national semifinal contest, it marked Boston College’s 25th Frozen Four appearance which is the most in college hockey history. BC looks to make it 26 this year in Minneapolis on April 5, 2017.

FAMILY TIES The Eagles are a tight-knit group, but even more so given the number of family ties within the BC hockey program. Not only do the Eagles sport one set of twin brothers in Jesper and Julius Mattila, but Luke McInnis, sophomore defenseman for Boston College this season, is the son of Marty McInnis who is not only tied for 39th in most goals all-time on The Heights (58), but he is also entering his fifth season as an assistant coach. Associate head coach Greg Brown is the uncle of junior captain Christopher Brown.

York is 36-13 in NCAA Tournament games as the head coach at Boston College; his 41 wins overall in the NCAA Tournament is also the highest total in Division I history.

Since Jerry York led his first Boston College team to the 1998 Frozen Four, the Eagles are one of three teams with at least 500 victories since that point. Boston College is second with 529 victories, while North Dakota (543) leads the pack. Michigan (517) is the other prorgram to have also eclipsed the 500 mark over the past 20 seasons. Upon completion of the 2016-17 season, Boston College maintained its best overall winning percentage in Hockey East history for the fourth-consecutive season.
