TRENDING UP Boston College continues to pump in a lofty number of goals after a six-spot in Portland on Nov. 4 when the Eagles cruised past Maine, 6-1, thanks to a hat trick by Austin Cangelosi. In four of its last eight games, Boston College has scored at least six goals or more. The Eagles are now averaging exactly 4.00 goals per game which is tied for seventh best in all of college hockey and tied with Notre Dame for the Hockey East lead.

A TRICK FOR THE AGES Austin Cangelosi not only scored Boston College’s second hat trick of the season and the first of his career, he did so in unprecdented fashion by netting a natural hat trick (three uninterrupted goals) with three different tipes of goals. Cangelosi scored a power play goal, short-handed goal and even-strength goal in succession on Nov. 4 at Cross Insurance Arena in 34:19. The senior’s accomplishment marked BC’s first “natural hat trick” since Brian Gionta scored five goals on his first five shots on Jan. 27, 2001, also against Maine, at Kelley Rink. Thirty-five other Eagle hat tricks have occurred between Gionta’s modern-day record and Cangelosi’s natural hat trick.

POWER PLAY PATROL Boston College scored a pair of power play goals at Maine on Nov. 4, including the first of his career for David Cotton, marking the third occasion the Eagles have found the back of the net with the extra skater this season. BC did it against Colorado College and UMass, as well. BC has converted on eight of their 61 power play chances at a rate of 13.1 percent.

IN THE RED The Eagles are outscoring their opponent at a significant margin and own the fifth-best mark in the NCAA. Boston College’s +1.91 goal differential is second in Hockey East (2.40) as the Eagles have netted 44 goals and given up only 23. The +21 mark is best in the NCAA. 2

THE GREAT WOLL OF CHESTNUT HILL First-year goaltender Joe Woll has been steady in net for the Eagles all season and is currently in the top 12, nationally, in all goaltending categories. Woll is currently 10th in save percentage (.933), 12th in goals against average (1.99) and 12th in winning percentage (.722). The Dardenne Prairie, Mo. native has not given up more than two goals in his last five starts.

CASE IN POINT Sophomore defenseman Casey Fitzgerald leads all BC blue liners in points scored with 10 (3-7-10). The North Reading, Mass. native is tied for eighth, nationally, amongst all defensemen with 1.00 points per game and is one of 31 skaters in all of college hockey with two game-winning goals.

BLUE LINE BANDITS In 11 games, Boston College’s defense is surrending only 2.09 goals per game, standing as the eighth best in the country and second best on the conference level. Despite being the fifth most penalized team in college hockey thus far (20.3 PIMs / game), the Eagles’ penalty-killing unit has done a good job, snuffing out 61-of-74 opportunities at a rate of 82.4 percent.

DISHIN’ IT Sophomore Michael Kim joined the Eagles midway through last season, so his rookie year wa abbreviated but un 11 games, the Toronto, Ontario native has already surpassed last year’s points total in is tied for the team lead with eight assists. On the national level, Kim is tied for 41st amongst all defensemen with 0.73 points per game.

GAME notes TEAM TO BEAT

After sweeping Maine on Nov. 4-5, Boston College extended its unbeaten streak to eight games, winning seven and tying one. That mark means the Eagles are currently the hottest team in college hockey as no one has a streak that long.

SWIFT STARTS

Boston College’s record is 8-2-1 following the Maine sweep. The Eagles have started out with an 8-2-1 mark in three of their last four seasons.

BATTLE TESTED

Through the first weekend of November, only two other teams played more hockey than Boston College has. The Eagles faced off 11 times in college hockey’s opening month, matching the number of outings Union and Ferris State have played. The only others teams to play more games are Michigan Tech and Alabama-Huntsville (12).

CANGE CROWNED

After scoring his first-career hat trick and also netted a short-handed goal and a power play goal in back-to-back games, netting fives goals in all over the course of two games, Austin Cangelosi earned BC’s first league honor, hauling in Hockey East Player of the Week laurels.

FRESHMEN FINDING THEIR GROOVE

Following Boston College’s two non-conference victories over Colorado College and Holy Cross, 12 of 13 freshmen that has dressed for the Eagles all now have at least one point. Ron Greco scored his second goal of the season to set the precedent at Maine on Nov. 5 while Mike Booth’s strike in the middle of the third period stood as his first-career game winner.

YORK TO MISS TIME

Boston College men’s head hockey coach Jerry York will underwent an outpatient eye procedure last week and will miss this weekend’s games against Maine. Associate head coach Greg Brown will lead the team in York’s absence. York will return back to the Eagles’ bench as soon as possible.

CHART TOPPER

On Friday in Portland, Ryan Fitzgerald notched another multi-point performance, including his fourth goal of the season and 61st goal, all-time, in the maroon and gold. The North Reading, Mass. native surpassed Ken Hodge (1984-87) and Jim Mullen (1963-66) on the career goals list and is now 36th, all-time, on The Heights goal scoring chart.

IT’S HARD TO HOLD A CANDLE IN THE COLD OCTOBER RAIN

Boston College pieced together a 6-2-1 mark in October, tying Union for the 13th-highest winning percentage in college hockey. Both Matthew Gaudreau and Patrick Brown led the Eagles in the scoring deparment with eight points (3-5-8) in the opening month of play. Rookie netminder Joe Woll amassed a 4-2-1 mark in his first month while classmate Ryan Edquist was an unblemished 2-0-0.

Tiernan Memorial Award.

BIG - TIME VENUES

Boston College plays a rather unique schedule in 2016-17, playing at venues such as CONSOL Energy Center, home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, for the College Hockey Classic and will shortly after combat Providence outdoors at Fenway Park for the fourth time in program history. The Eagles are also fortunate enough to play on one of the world’s most famous stages, Madison Square Garden, against defending national champion North Dakota in the College Hockey Showdown, on December 3, 2016.

With NCAA Division I championships in 2008, 2010 and 2012, Boston College became the first team since 1961 to win three championships in five seasons; Murray Armstrong’s Denver team won three titles in four years (1958, 1960, 1961). The all-time best is five titles in six years, accomplished by Michigan (1951, 1952, 1953, 1955 and 1956).

NCAA Championships in the last 15 years. During that time period, only Denver and Minnesota, each with two, have won multiple national titles.

Boston College has competed in five of the last 11 national championship games – 2006 (Wisconsin, 1-2), 2007 (Michigan State, 1-3), 2008 (Notre Dame, 4-1), 2010 (Wisconsin, 5-0) and 2012 (Ferris State, 4-1).

36 511 .634 1020

NCAA Tournament victories in the last 19 years. That win total is nine victories more than North Dakota, which has totaled 27 NCAA wins since 1998, the second-highest tournament win total in college hockey.

Since Jerry York led his first Boston College team to the 1998 Frozen Four, the Eagles are one of three teams with at least 500 victories since that point. Defending national champion North Dakota leads the pack with 513 victories, while Boston College (511) and Michigan (504) have also eclipsed the 500 mark over the past 19 seasons.

Upon completion of the 2015-16 season, Boston College maintained its best overall winning percentage in Hockey East history for the third-consecutive season. Over the course of 32 seasons in league play, the Eagles’ winning percentage of .682 (474-256-82) reigns supreme in one of college hockey’s top conferences.

Jerry York’s overall record is 1,020-601-111 (.621) in 45 seasons as a head coach at Clarkson, Bowling Green and Boston College; he owns the most victories of any Division 1 coach in the history of college hockey. York is 36-13 in NCAA Tournament games as the head coach at Boston College; his 41 wins overall in the NCAA Tournament is also the highest total in Division I history.

Frozen Four appearances in the last 19 years; the highest total among all teams in college hockey. Only Boston College (12), North Dakota (10), Michigan (six), Minnesota (five), Michigan State (three) and Denver (three) have advanced to more than two Frozen Fours during that time period.

Sophomore forward Colin White was selected by the Ottawa Senators 21st overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, becoming the 17th Eagle in the last 29 years to have been drafted in the first round of the NHL. He joins Brian Leetch (ninth, 1986), Craig Janney (13th, 1986), Bill Guerin (fifth, 1989), Marty Reasoner (14th, 1996), Brooks Orpik (18th, 2000), Krys Kolanos (19th, 2000), Chuck Kobasew (14th, 2001), Brian Boyle (26th, 2003), Patrick Eaves (29th, 2003), Cory Schneider (26th, 2004), Nick Petrecki (28th, 2007), Chris Kreider (19th, 2009), Kevin Hayes (24th, 2010), Michael Matheson (23rd, 2012), Alex Tuch (18th, 2014) and Noah Hanifin (fifth, 2015) as Boston College first-round draftees.

Former Eagles were active on NHL opening night roster, the most of any college hockey program; Wisconsin & Michigan also had 17 but a couple were on team’s IR lists

Colin White was named to the 2016 U.S. National Junior Team that competed at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships in Helsinki, Finland, becoming the 28th Eagle participant in World Junior play under head coach Jerry York, joining Jeff Farkas (1996, 1997, 1998), Marty Reasoner (1996, 1997), Blake Bellefuille (1997), Brian Gionta (1998, 1999), Mike Mottau (1998), Bobby Allen (1998), Brooks Orpik (2000), J.D.
