The Boston College freshmen class of 2017-18 has stepped up in a big way in the first three weekends of the season. The Eagles have accounted for 29 points through the first three games of the season and the rookie class has notched 35 percent (4-6-10) of those points. Logan Hutsko scored his first goal as an Eagle in power play fashion on Oct. 20 at St. Cloud and leads the rookies with four points (1-3-4). Christopher Grando is one of three Eagles with a pair of goals while Jacob Tortora scored BC's first tally of the season with the game-tying power play marker against Quinnipiac on Oct. 6.

Sophomore forward Graham McPhee pieced together his first-career threegame point streak after providing the secondary assist on Logan Hutsko's first-career tally at St. Cloud. The Bethesda, Md. native has notched four points (1-3-4) in his hot start. McPhee also posted his third-career multipoint performance at Providence on Oct. 15 after his first goal of the season against Wisconsin on Oct. 13. McPhee â&#x20AC;&#x2122;s tally was also the equalizer at 3:47 of the third period at Providence, standing as his first-career game-tying goal.

Boston College's power play has had a nice start to the season as the Eagles have scored an extra-man marker in three of their first five outings. BC has converted on 3-of-16 (18.8 percent) chances this season which is eighth in Hockey East and 24, nationally. Jacob Tortora, Graham McPhee and Logan Hutsko have accounted for the PPGs so far this season.

Freshman Logan Hutsko scored his first-career goal in power play fashion on Oct. 20 at St. Cloud, capping a three-game point streak. The Tampa, Fla. native accounted for four points (1-3-4) from Oct. 13-20 and is the third Eagle (Jacob Tortora, Graham McPhee) to score a power play goal this season. He is tied for 22nd, nationally, amonst rookies in points scored with 0.80 PPG.

The Boston College penalty kill had been superb all season long, snuffing out its first 16 opposing power plays before St. Cloud found the back of the net on its seventh and eight power play on Oct. 20. Overall, the Eagles' penalty kill is sixth in Hockey East and 24th in the NCAA, killing off 19-of-23 (82.6 percent) opposing power play opportunities.

Casey Fitzgerald is averaging 0.80 points per game and is tied for the BC lead with four points. Amongst NCAA defensemen, he is tied for 33rd overall

PROTECT THE NEST The Eagles’ defensive corps has surrendered 3.40 goals per game, slotting it 41st nationally and ninth at the conference level. Boston College has held its opponents to three goals or fewer in three of its first five outings.

EDDIE THE EAGLE Sophomore goaltender Ryan Edquist earned his first start in goal for the Eagles on Oct. 20 as the hometown product (Lakeville, Minn.) stopped a career-best 42 shots in the decision.

THE BRICK WOLL Sophomore backstopper Joseph Woll has stopped 97-of-108 shots faced in his first four outings for a .898 save percentage which is currently tied for 45th in all of college hockey while his 2.71 goals against average ranks 36th int he game. Woll has stopped 1,009 - of - 1,107 shots faced (.911 save percentage) with a career mark of 2.65 goals against average. Woll was also one of 20 goalies named to the watch list for the 2018 Mike Richter Award, which annually honors the most outstanding goaltender in NCAA Division I men’s hockey. The winner of the fifth annual award will be announced at the 2018 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four in St. Paul, Minn. He looks to become the second Eagle in program history to college this award. Thatcher Demko earned the prize as a junior at the end of the 2015-16 season in Tampa, Fla.

BOSTON COLLEGE vs. PROVIDENCE Boston College returns to Schneider Arena for the second time in 12 days, returning to the scene of where Casey Fitzgerald netted the overtime winner 69 seconds into the extra session to give the Eagles their first win of the season. On Oct. 15 in the last outing at Providence, the Eagles went down 3-0 early before Boston College rattled off four unanswered goals as Fitzgerald had a pair, including the game winner, alongside Christopher Grando and Graham McPhee. In the last 28 games overall, dating back to 2008, Boston College has dominated Providence, owning a 22-2-4 mark. BC posted a 15-0-2 mark from March 14, 2008 to March 1, 2013 against the Friars. Before beating BC in 2013, Providence had not won in Chestnut Hill since Oct. 31, 2006. Overall, the Eagles own a significant margin in the overall series, 113-48-14, and a 61-24-12 mark in Hockey East play. Since Nate Leaman arrived in Providence, Jerry York has had his number, owning a 10-3-1 mark over the Friar skipper.

FRIAR FOCUS The weekend after the Eagles knocked off the Friars in overtime, Providence took a trip to upstate New York for a pair against St. Lawrence and Clarkson, respectively. Sophomore Josh Wilkins scored an overtime winner of PC's own at 2:47 to down the Saints at Appleton Arena on Friday before getting shutout at Clarkson the following night, 4-0. Wilkins leads Providence in scoring with five points (2-3-5) and is tied for 71st, nationally, averaging 1.00 points per game. Kasper Bjรถrkqvist is PC's primary goal scorer, netting four goals thus far and is tied for 16th in goal scoring in all the NCAA. The Friar offense is averaging 3.00 goals per game and tied for 20th in the nation while the defense is surrendering 3.20 goals per game, which is tied for 37th in the NCAA. Providence is the second-most penalized team in the conference so far, averaging 15.6 penalty minutes per game, ranking the Friars 13th nationally in that category.

DU-IN' IT N DU-IN' IT N DU-IN' IT On Saturday, Oct. 21 at St. Cloud State, junior JD Dudek scored his first goal of the season and 15th as an Eagle late in the third period. The Auburn, N.H. native also lobbed a game-best six shots on net on Saturday night. Sophomores David Cotton notched his first point of the season with the primary helper while Julius Mattila notched his second assist of the season on that same play.

FITZ ON THE FRITZ Junior defenseman Casey Fitzgerald notched his second-career two-goal game (at Holy Cross – Oct. 22, 2016), including the overtime winner 69 seconds into the extra session to give the Eagles their first win of the season at Providence on Oct. 15. Fitzgerald’s game-winning goal stands as the third of his career as the North Reading, Mass. native accounted for a pair last season. For his big showing, the captain was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 16.

DÉJÀ VU The last time Boston College scored an overtime winner was when Casey Fitzgerald's older brother, Ryan, scored the walkoff winner in game three of the Hockey East quarterfinals two years ago against Vermont on March 13, 2016.

THE EAGLES GO MARCHING IN The Eagles fell victim to a 3-0 deficit in the first 25:16 of regulation at Providence on Oct. 15. Boston College gathered itself and stormed back from a three-goal deficit to win for the first time since November 16, 2012 when the Eagles came back and beat Merrimack at home, 4-3.

THE ROARING 20s A funky note came to light following Boston College’s 1-1 tie against Quinnipiac in the home opener on Oct. 6. Boston College recorded its first regular-season draw to open the season since the 1922-23 season, and second ever in program history with the 1-1 stalemate on Friday night. The Eagles tied the Boston Hockey Club on Oct. 25, 1922, 3-3.

FROSH SCORING FIRST First-year forward Jacob Tortora scored the Eagles’ first goal of the season, marking the third time in the last five seasons a rookie lit the lamp for the first time of the year. In 2015-16, Miles Wood scored BC’s first goal at Army on Oct. 9, 2015 while Ian McCoshen’ started off the scoring for BC at Yost Ice Arena at Michigan on Oct. 10, 2013.

EAGLETS For the third time in four seasons, Boston College sports the youngest roster in NCAA hockey. As of Oct. 1, the average age of the Eagles roster is 20 years and 125 days. Boston University is second with a mean just two days short of 20 years and 127 days. Michigan is the third youngest team at 20 years and 324 days.

DON’T FORGET ABOUT THAT GUY... Boston College’s head coach Jerry York needs no introduction as the Eagle skipper skates into his 24th season at the helm on The Heights and 46th season in all. York’s 1,033 victories are the most of any Division I coach in the history of college hockey, nore than 100 wins clear of the former leader, Ron Mason (Michigan State - 924). York is one of only three coaches in NCAA history to lead two different schools to national titles; led Bowling Green to the 1984 NCAA title, and Boston College to the 2001, 2008, 2010 and 2012 NCAA titles. He is the all-time leader in NCAA Tournament wins with 41 victories, as well, and has led 22 teams to 25 or more wins.

OPENING NIGHT EAGLES After leading the National Hockey League with having 24 former Boston College Eagles dressing in at least one NHL game last season IN 2016-17, BC once again paces the college hockey world with the most delegates on NHL opening night rosters with 19 to start off the 2017-18 slate. Prior to NHL franchises trimming their respective clubs to their opening night rosters, Boston College led the pack with 33 alumni earning training camp invitations, followed by Minnesota (29), Michigan (28), North Dakota (28) and Boston University (27). The top six programs are: Boston College (19), Michigan (17), North Dakota (16), Minnesota (15), Boston University (14) and Wisconsin (11).

SHOW BIRDS Starting off the 2017-18 season, with 548 former NCAA players having reported to National Hockey League training camps for preseason preparation, the Boston College men’s hockey program led the way with 33 representatives spread out over 18 franchises. As has been the way in the past, the Eagles’ professional pedigree shined through as BC led all schools with 33 alumni earning training camp invitations, followed closely by Minnesota (29), Michigan (28), North Dakota (28) and Boston University (27).

DRAFTED Boston College has the fifth-most draft picks on any 2017-18 roster this college hockey season with eight, including: Joseph Woll (Toronto), Graham McPhee (Edmonton), JD Dudek (New Jersey), Casey Fitzgerald (Buffalo), Christopher Brown (Buffalo), David Cotton (Carolina), Aapeli Räsänen (Edmonton) and Michael Karow. SHOT CALLERS Sophomore forward Graham McPhee’s father, George, played for Coach York at Bowling Green where he won the Hobey Baker Award in 1982 and is now the general manager of the new Las Vegas Golden Knights franchise. Junior captain Casey Fitzgerald’s father, Tom, is the assistant manager of the New Jersey Devils.

THE COLDEST PROGRAM OF ‘EM ALL When the Eagles took on Quinnipiac in the 2016 national semifinal contest, it marked Boston College’s 25th Frozen Four appearance which is the most in college hockey history. BC looks to make it 26 this year in Minneapolis on April 5, 2017.

Since Jerry York led his first Boston College team to the 1998 Frozen Four, the Eagles are one of three teams with at least 500 victories since that point.
