Russian choreographers Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov collaborated with Tchaikovsky to create the cherished version that served as Nissinen’s inspiration. While remaining true to their intent, Nissinen added choreography and reunited with award-winning designer Robert Perdziola (The Nutcracker) to create the spectacular sets and costumes.

VIOLET Playing: January 9–February 6, 2016 Order by: December 18 Run time: 1 hr. 45 min. BOOTYCANDY Playing: March 12–April 9, 2016 Order by: February 12 Run time: 2 hrs. 30 min. Bootycandy is a shockingly funny and saucy spin on race, sex, and sexuality. Based on Robert O’Hara’s own experiences growing up black and gay, the play unfolds in a series of loosely linked vignettes that take no prisoners when confronting racial, sexual, and cultural stereotypes. With outrageous humor and real heart, O’Hara tests how we talk about our bodies at home, in church, and in the theatre. Recommended for ages 17+ due to adult language and content.
DOGFIGHT Playing: May 7–June 4, 2016 Order by: April 8 Run time: 2 hrs. 15 min. But when Corporal Eddie Birdlace meets Rose, an awkward and idealistic waitress he enlists to win a cruel bet with his fellow recruits, she rewrites the rules of the game and teaches him the power of love and compassion.

AMERICA’S NATIONAL PARKS & NATURAL WONDERS Monday, August 29–Tuesday, September 6, 2016
“There is nothing so American as our national parks.” —Franklin D. Roosevelt. From the wild splendor of Yellowstone to Zion National Park—a paradise “too stunning for mere mortals”—we’ll explore an exceptional natural landscape on this new travel program as we visit five of America’s most popular National Parks. Considered the “Crown Jewel,” an unspoiled living museum, Yellowstone is also the first Park, established by Ulysses Grant in 1872. Witness a spectacular combination of mountains and meadows, lakes, hot springs and waterfalls, wildlife, and, of course, Old Faithful. Home to the most rugged mountains in America, Grand Teton National Park’s sky-scraping jagged peaks are often called “mountains of the imagination.” We’ll “cowboy up” in the resort town of Jackson, Wyoming, have a chance to float on the Snake River and enjoy chuckwagon food and western entertainment. Marvel at the sandstone cliffs and delicately sculpted pillars that create a magicallycolored “forest of stone” in Bryce Canyon National Park. Described as both enchanting and spectacular, the massive sandstone cliffs of Zion National Park will charm us in their colors of cream, pink, and red. We’ve saved the best for last as we journey to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World, for some of the most breathtaking views to be had in the U.S. On the last night of our vacation we’ll trade the majestic scenery of these amazing parks for the stunning neon glitter of a man-made wonder—Las Vegas!

FLORENCE and ROME Friday, March 18–Friday, March 25, 2016
FLORENCE
Visit two of the world’s most extraordinary cities on this classic Italian vacation. One of the cultural capitals of the world, Florence is magnetic and romantic and, in many ways, hardly changed since the Renaissance—magnificent art and stunning architecture surround you. But, the magic of Florence doesn’t stop there. Wander its narrow streets and discover amazing markets (San Lorenzo), distinctive neighborhoods (the Oltrarno) and green spaces (Boboli Gardens) that are every bit as glorious as the David and the Duomo. We’ll enjoy an included guided walking tour of the historic center as well as a visit to the Uffizi Gallery. After three nights in Florence, we’ll head south to Rome, stopping en route for a walking tour of beautiful Siena, whose medieval piazza is shaped like a scallop shell. “A city that counted,” Lonely Planet says of Rome—during its long history as the capital of the Roman empire and then as the seat of papal power, Rome has always been center stage. Enjoy three nights in this indescribable city, get acquainted on a panoramic coach tour and a skip-the-line Vatican tour. Rome today is a thrilling place to visit: antiquity is everywhere (Colosseum and Forum), as are take-your-breath-away sights like St. Peter’s Square and Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. And, yet, you may discover that the chief allure of Rome is the lifestyle, the “dolce vita” you experience at an outdoor café table in an ancient piazza, tossing a coin into a likely fountain (there are dozens) or watching the spectacular sunset from the Pincio Gardens.

NOTRE DAME CATHEDRAL
“Paris is always a good idea.”—Audrey Hepburn Hundreds of Club members have travelled to Paris with us over the years and this Travel Club classic remains one of the best values in travel today! We’ll stay in the heart of Montparnasse, located along the northern edge of the 14th arrondissement, known for its lively nightlife, much of which is based around historic brasseries like La Coupole, La Rotonde and Le Select. Once a warren of artists’ studios and swinging cafés, this neighborhood takes you back to the café society of the early 20th century—imagine having a drink with Picasso, Modigliani, Hemingway, Man Ray or Trotsky. Don’t miss the rooftop terrace of Tour Montparnasse for the best panoramic view of the city and treat yourself to a cocktail at Le Bar Américain on the 56th floor. The Hotel Villa Modigliani offers a secluded inner courtyard and garden, proximity to the Jardin du Luxembourg and Saint Germain des Prés, and is also convenient to the Paris Metro. This neighborhood is perfect for strolling, dining, and shopping in the Galeries Lafayette Montparnasse. You may want to visit Rue d’Odessa for its countless pancake houses (a specialty from France’s Brittany region) and the pedestrianized Rue Daguerre.

You’ve never seen anything quite like Venice! This exotic lagoon city, built on a hundred islands in the Adriatic, is a watery labyrinth of sun-speckled canals and arched bridges, marble palaces, piazzas both massive and tiny, narrow streets and a glorious quayside promenade…all in a car-free zone! The heart of Venice, Piazza San Marco, looks as perfect as a film set. The iconic Basilica, Doges Palace, Rialto Bridge and Bridge of Sighs are everything you’ve hoped for. Your first cruise (by gondola or vaporetto) down the Grand Canal—the most beautiful “street” in Venice, surrounded by opulent architecture and bustling with water-craft—is an unforgettable experience! You’ll enjoy a guided walking tour of the San Marco area and then it’s time to indulge: visit the mar velous Pegg y Guggenheim Collection or Ca’Rezzonico with its 18th-century art and decadent furnishings; wander down mysterious passageways, listen to music in a floodlit square, taste the original Bellini at Harry’s Bar. No matter where you go, you’ll find history, beauty and romance. “An endlessly seductive charm.”—Rick Steves

Pack your walking shoes, binoculars and your camera and join us on the Ligurian coast—the Italian Riviera. For the next week we’ll embark on walking excursions to some stunning places. Each walk is set at a leisurely pace and is three to three-and-a-half hours long—with lots of stops along the way. We start with four nights in seaside Santa Margherita Ligure—a beautiful old resort town with the palm trees, cafés and marina that a perfect Riviera location should have. Just up the coast lies Genoa and one of the world’s best-kept travel secrets—Genoa is awesome! This noisy, colorful Mediterranean port is a jumble of ancient lanes and alleyways, massive palaces, medieval walls and bell towers, with a center consecrated as a UNESCO site and a refurbished Antico Porto set off by lively palm-lined promenades. Our full-day excursion includes a five-hour urban walk—with plenty of stops and free time for lunch. The following day we’ll set off on a three-hour hike and make our way on a paved path with stone steps to the glorious harbor town of Portofino. (Don’t worry, we’ll have boat or coach transportation back to the hotel!) Over the next two days we’ll hike up an ancient mule track for a breathtaking view of Liguria and the Côte d’Azur, find the watch tower on the Punta Manara promontory, have time for an impromptu picnic lunch and a cooking class and free time in the pretty seaside town of Sestri Levante. Our base for the next three nights is Levanto, with an interesting historical center, beautifully painted villas and a 13thcentury medieval loggia. Our last exploration is a full-day on the Cinque Terre—“five crazily constructed fishing villages, set amid some of the most dramatic coastal scenery on the planet” (Lonely Planet), with short walks in each village and either train or boat between them.

ENCHANTING UMBRIA Food, Wine and Landscapes
Saturday, May 7–Sunday, May 15, 2016
Picture a lush landscape of green rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves in every direction, and ancient hill towns clinging to the pinnacles, each one offering a rich cultural heritage that began before the Romans, and you have Umbria, the green heart of Italy. We’ll stay in a renovated 17thcentury palazzo—complete with a hanging garden and hall of frescoes—in Spello, one of Umbria’s most picturesque towns, with rose-colored stone walls, crumbling terracotta roof tiles, stone pathways, and weathered wooden doors. We’ll visit the ancient city of Orvieto and its magnificent Gothic Duomo, and then settle down for a tasting of the famous wines of Orvieto, before a stop in Todi, whose perfect medieval piazza looks like (and sometimes, is) a movie set. The following day we visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Assisi, where a guided tour introduces us to the Basilica and other sacred memorials in the birthplace of St. Francis, before we enjoy lunch at a local trattoria. Next is Spoleto. Shelley called it “the most romantic city I ever saw” and it’s just that today, with colorful street scenes, stone lanes and monuments from its thousand year history. Then it’s off to visit the famed Lungarotti Winery in Torgiano for a wine tasting and light lunch before visits to Deruta (famous for ceramics) and Gubbio, the oldest village in Umbria. Our vacation ends with a visit to fascinating Montefalco and the Arnaldo Caprai Winery for a tasting and some local delicacies, and Bevagna, an intimate and charming walled village. What a delicious holiday!

ITALY’S CILENTO COAST Plus Ravello, Sorrento & Ischia Sunday, May 15–Monday, May 23, 2016
South of the Amalfi Coast is a treasure trove, bustling traditional towns and landscapes that are both authentic and enchanting. This dramatic coastline of rocky coves, wild flowers, crystal-clear water and plunging cliffs is off the typical tourist radar—the Italians have long kept it to themselves. We’ll spend three nights in the historic center of Santa Maria Di Castellabate—a former fishing village of pastel-colored houses and ancient palazzi, lively restaurants and intriguing shops. Enjoy excursions to Paestum—a fascinating archaeological find and the site of some of the best-preserved Greek temples on the Mediterranean—and Acciaroli—a jewel of the Cilento coast with traditional houses, narrow cobbled alleys and a harborside promenade dotted with cafés and said to be a favorite of Hemingway’s during his Italian travels. Sorrento will be our base for the next four nights and we’ll stop en route in Ravello— “the best view on the Amalfi Coast,” says Forbes—for a tour of this cliff-top village and lunch. The following day we’ll cruise to Ischia Island, a wonder of lush greenery, peaceful seaside towns and postcard panoramas, and enjoy a guided tour that includes the La Mortella Botanical Gardens and the Aragonese Castle; followed by a visit to Pietratorcia Winery—Ischia’s wine heritage dates back to 700 B.C. And, finally, we’ll enjoy a full-day excursion to Naples with a visit to the famous Archaeological Museum and a traditional pizza lunch.

“I never knew of a morning in Africa when I woke up that I was not happy.” —Ernest Hemingway
In 2013, Tanzania was voted Best Safari Country in Africa in a poll of travelers, experts and guide book authors. This African wilderness of unfenced parks, abundant wildlife, endless plains and landscapes dotted with enormous baobab trees and the UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, provides an incomparable safari experience. Tanzania is the last place on earth where wildlife exists in such abundance. Following our arrival night in Arusha we’ll head into Tarangire National Park with (reportedly) the largest concentration of elephant in the world. Lake Manyara is a jewel whose setting was praised by Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa” and with wildlife that can be observed at a much closer range than in other parks. “Timeless” is how the Serengeti is often described—a vast treeless plain with millions of animals searching for fresh grasslands—and in the Maasai dialect it means “the place where the land moves on forever.” Between breathtaking vistas and a permanent water supply that supports an unparalleled concentration of wildlife, Ngorongoro Crater is one of Africa’s premier attractions and sits in close proximity to Olduvai Gorge, the “Cradle of Mankind,” where pre-human fossil remains were discovered. In addition to morning, afternoon and evening game drives we’ll visit a project that assists disabled community members, take a guided walk through the savanna, visit a Maasai village and view ancient cave art. 44

Explore two of the world’s most passionate and exotic cities—plus Iguassu Falls, “unlike any other waterfall on earth”—on this small group tour. Tripadvisor’s 2015 Travelers Choice Awards for South American destinations lists Buenos Aires, Argentina in the No. 1 spot and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at No. 5. Known as the Cidade Maravilhosa (Marvelous City), Rio boasts incomparable views from every angle with whitesand beaches, lush rainforests, and dramatic mountains. Iguassu Falls, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a winner of the New Seven Wonders of Nature competition, is nearly twice as tall as Niagara and spans nearly three kilometers with 275 waterfalls or cataracts. We’ll spend two nights here, at the border between Brazil and Argentina and enjoy a Brazilian barbecue, walk the footpaths for panoramic views and view Devil’s Throat, the most famous section of the falls. Buenos Aires, a blend of European charm and South American flair, is a sophisticated city of wide boulevards, incredible food, neoclassical architecture and sultry tango sessions. On the last day of our cruise we’ll visit Punta Espinosa on Isla Fernandina whose dramatic lava f lows are home to marine iguanas and Vicente Roca Point and the Bolivar Channel where we might see dolphins and whales. ALGHERO
Surrounded by the bluest waters of the Mediterranean, Sardinia’s interior is a magnificent rugged landscape with remnants of its ancient nuraghic culture, a smattering of Roman ruins and traces of Spanish Baroque influenced architecture. While still Italian, Sardinia is distinct with its own cuisine, culture and history. We’ll spend five nights in oceanside Alghero, imbued with a Spanish atmosphere and one of Sardinia’s most beautiful medieval cities: a wellpreserved historic center, medieval archways, sun-baked streets, busy seafood restaurants, shady cobbled lanes, Gothic palazzo and cafélined piazzas where watching a sunset, accompanied by a cocktail, is a must. Excursions include a walking tour of Alghero and (weather depending) a visit to the Neptune Caves; the charming town of Tempio Pausania, ruins of a unique nuraghic village and the distinctive Valley of the Moon of Aggius. TRULLI ALBEROBELLO
The Travel Club heads to southern Italy to experience the unique character and charm of this “mostly undiscovered” slice of Italian heaven. Our first stop is Alberobello (in Puglia), where the world-famous picturesque cone-shaped houses are recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll also enjoy an excursion to beautiful Lecce—“the Rome of the South”—where the art is found both in its museums and its elegant Baroque architecture. Travel to the region of Basilicata where we’ll visit Matera, thought to be one of the world’s oldest towns and famous for its extensive rock dwellings and network of caves and rock churches, and Castelmezzano, a medieval cliffside village with incomparable panoramic vistas. Next we’ll make our way to seaside Amantea, considered to be one of Calabria’s prettiest resort areas with a lovely old town located on the hillside and the new town, where shops, restaurants and piazzas line a main boulevard. Our excursions include the medieval town of Fiumefreddo Bruzio and Santa Severina, listed among “the most beautiful villages in Italy.” The historical legacy, breathtaking scenery and renowned cuisine make this a true Italian experience.

Many of us travel to revel in other cultures—to eat and drink like the locals in Thailand, to hear a waltz in Vienna or take in an opera in Milan. Well, how about experiencing some homegrown local culture right here in America’s south—the birthplace of American music! This week-long tour showcases three American cities known as musical Meccas for fans of jazz, blues and country music. New Orleans indisputably wears the jazz crown and is home to such landmarks as Jackson Square and the unique French Quarter—where we’ll learn to cook “N’awlins” style and take a bayou swamp cruise. In Memphis, we’ll feast on famous barbecue and listen as local musicians rhapsodize about Memphis’ blues, soul and rock ’n’ roll history, before touring Graceland, the 14-acre estate of the late King, Elvis Presley. Finally, we’ll go a little bit country in Nashville where we take our seats at the legendary Grand Ole Opry, tour historic RCA Studio B and visit the Country Music Hall of Fame. The sounds of the south have become part of our own cultural heritage as surely as Southern hospitality, sweet tea, fried chicken and “Gone With the Wind.”

In Jackson, Wyoming—the crown jewel of the Northern Rockies—we discover a century-old, authentic cowboy-town-turned-resort with Old West-style boardwalks fronting New Weststyle boutiques, galleries, restaurants and bars. The astonishing scenery changes from mountains to prairies and back again as we travel through the incredible Bighorn Mountains and across the territory of the Great Sioux Nation.
