WELCOME FROM BOUCHARD LIVESTOCK Welcome to the Southwest Showcase Annual Bull Sale. The Southwest consignors have combined to offer the strongest and most consistent group of perspective herd sires to date. These consignors probably put as much time and effort into sourcing breed leading AI sires and each of them walk herd sires that sire the kind of cattle that are leading industry demands. The Southwest Showcase will offer bulls that have the potential to lead purebred programs as well as individuals ideally suited to fulfill the needs of industry leading commercial programs. Their later March date has become attractive to bull shoppers both purebred seed stock and commercial operators, as there is more time with better weather and less bull sale commitments. This sale has developed a reputation as a place seed stock producers can complete their bull shopping for the upcoming breeding season and commercial producers can purchase one or multiple bulls to replenish their bull battery for the upcoming year. I urge you to call the individual producers and discuss your herdbull needs. They will walk you through the offering and recommend bulls that will meet your expectations and fulfill your herdsire needs. SIGHT UNSEEN PURCHASE PROGRAM If you are unable to attend the sale but are interested in bulls, give the consignors a call and they will personally go over the bulls and your program and recommend bulls that would meet your needs and refer you to one of the sale staff who will represent your needs in a professional and confidential manner. 100% GUARANTEE All bulls are guaranteed to be satisfactory breeders in accordance with CSA guidelines. Should a problem occur barring physical injury or mismanagement, a bull of equal value will be provided or a credit will be issued towards the purchase of another bull. We guarantee you will have a bull to service your cows. HEALTH AND FERTILITY All bulls will have a scrotal measurement and a vet examination done prior to the sale. All bulls over 12 months of age will also be semen tested; any bulls under 12 months of age will return to the seller’s farm to be tested after the sale. These bulls will be delivered once a semen test has been passed. All bulls have been treated with Ivomec and have current vaccinations. Contact the breeder for specific herd health programs. BULL DEVELOPMENT & DELIVERY The Southwest Showcase consignors will keep bulls free of charge until May 1st, 2016. Buyers need to insure the bulls while being cared for by the consignors. Option A Bulls can be picked up at Heartland Livestock sale day and a $50 discount will be deducted from the sale price Option B At the buyer’s option and risk, the bulls can be returned to the consignor’s farm and picked up anytime at the buyer’s convenience. Option C Please make arrangements with the consignor if trucking is required. EPD EXPLANATION EPDs are “Expected Progeny Differences”. They are a useful tool in selection. EPDs incorporate the individual animal with its averaged ancestry performance. EPDs do not compare across cattle breeds, they are individually based per breed. EPDs indicate a probable variance above or below breed average for that trait for a given bull’s progeny. Use them for guidance in the direction you want your herd to go.

Sale Feature. 26D has always been the favorite. Huge topped, long bodied, big volume, tons of cherry red hair, massive hip, and big testicles. This could be the most impressive bull we’ve produced to date. His Dam is a long bodied, fancy Rampage daughter that we had in to show as a calf. Her maternal sister is the Stubby daughter that was heifer calf Champion at Ranchmen’s pen show and later sold at CWA to Crowe Bros. His grandam and great grandam are both still on the farm and are not only true beauties but great producers. The accolades to this family are endless. We have been very impressed with the Capone calves so far and 26D is proof of what he can do. 26D had the highest actual YW and AYW, ADG, & WPD of the red bulls. In 2015, we invested in a semen package from MRL Capone 130B and it paid off in spades. The Capone calves are very impressive as a group. We also have a big group of Royal Red bulls, who has worked very well here as well. On the black side, this marks the final group of Walk The Line sons as he was injured last year. Once again, he has a couple great daughters with feature sons in the sale. Cobra and Manifest have provided us some black sons with a balance of calving ease and performance.

As long as they come, with a big hip, progeny from 160D should pack on the pounds. Sale Feature. Smooth made, stylish bull with lots of depth of body, muscle expression and presence about him. His dam is a moderate framed Walk The Line daughter with lots of milk. Abricot 202Z had one of our feature Red Enticer sons in last year’s sale that sold to Camden Cattle Co. 4D’s Grandam was Abricot 356N who was a bull producing machine. She only had 3 daughters and they’ve all followed closely in her footsteps, but we feel 202Z will be her replacement. Another feature bull Lot (89D) is from this great cow family. 4D had a low 274 gestation, and 88 lbs BW but also had the 3rd highest AYW, ADG & WPD. She is super fancy, deep bodied, wide topped and great uddered, just like her dam. 89D’s grandam is Abricot 511R, who was Champion Cow with Heifer Calf at the Ranchmen’s pen show as a 9 year old, with 5B at side. She has produced 3 walking Herdsire for us including Black Magic 68W. She also has 2 excellent Walk The Line daughters in herd. A sister to 511R has a feature son that sells (Lot 4D). 89D had the highest AWW, AYW and yearling ADG & WPD of the black bulls. He has EPDs in the top 5% CE, 20% WW, 25% YW, 20% MCE. Heifer Bull. 250D is extremely docile, deep bodied and smooth with a nice, small head. His dam is a thick, wide topped cow with a level udder and lots of hair. His sire, “Viking”, was the easiest calving bull we have ever used, and his daughters are gorgeous. 250D had a 77 lbs birth weight and EPDs in the top 5% CE, 10% BW, 20% MCE. Sale Feature. 80D is a deep, thick, performance bull, that is very correct in his make-up. Not many bulls have the stacked pedigree this guy does. His dam 11X is near flawless—super clean made, deep bodied, with a perfect udder. She has passed all these traits onto both her daughters. Her Diablo daughter has a son in the sale (Lot 186D). 80D’s grandam Storm 405P, was the foundation of our Storm cow family and produced many high sellers through this sale, including the Cattlemen’s Choice bull at MHPS. 80D had the 2nd highest ADG, 3rd WPD at weaning, 3rd AYW, 2nd for WPD yearling of the black bulls. Deep-‐sided, wide-‐topped, easy keeping bulls that are structurally sound with great hair and quiet dispositions. We believe these qualities come from the strict criteria that we have always had for our cow herd of sound feet and leg structure, udder quality, and dispositions. We feel that if you analyze our bull pen, these qualities are evident. They are developed with the future in mind. The weaning weights you see are with no creep feeding, so they are a good indication of their genetic potential. They are developed on a moderate energy ration to ensure soundness and longevity. We are going to start off the red section of our offering with a true sale feature, Cornerstone 17D. He has the genetic makeup and tremendous structure to take your program to the next level. He displays an impressive birth to weaning spread, with just an 83 lb birth weight while still maintaining good performance numbers. This is evident in his EPDs, being in the top 4% CE and 10% BW. He is very clean and smooth through the shoulder and neck, deep through the heart and flank, full in the hip and displays tremendous testicle development. He is sired by the $46,000 Current Affair, who was the high selling red bull from the Wheatland program the year that he sold. His dam is a true model female, as are many of the Red Rock daughters who are raising some of the top bulls in the breed. A bull that we can’t help admire on a daily basis. Solid made from front to back, he has a lot of things going for him. Thick butted, wide topped, exceptionally deep bodied and moves out very well. The Amarillo sons are so consistent in type and kind, and have been very well received in the past two years. This will be the last son to sell, as we unfortunately lost Amarillo to an injury. This was one of our favourite bulls all summer in the pasture, and he continues to impress us each day. We can’t believe this is already the 8th year for the South West Showcase sale. We sincerely hope that the buyers from all our previous sales had good results from bulls purchased here in the past. We strive to produce the most structurally sound and fertile bulls that we can. We feed our bulls with these goals in mind. They are hand fed a 14% protein bull growing ration and alfalfa/crested wheat hay. They will be in moderate condition at the sale. They could be heavier if we pushed them but that doesn’t do much for their fertility or longevity. We try to have our bulls gain 100lbs per month but this year on the same ration as the past most of the bulls have exceeded that target. Our bulls are very fertile. Last year we tested 20 bulls at 11 months of age and 19 passed with the other one passing two weeks later. We would like to take the bulls home after the sale and deliver them to you in April if that works for the purchaser. Once again a sincere thank you to all the buyers and bidders for participating in the sale.

What a job Diesel 2D’s mother did for a first calf heifer. She had him unassisted at only 82lbs and weaned him at an actual weight of 1015lbs, a pretty impressive birth to weaning spread. We also own her full sister TSN 12A and she is just as good, a super cow family. I don’t think i can add anything to add to what Diesels sire Vision has done in the Simmental industry in the last two years. The marketability of his progeny speaks for itself. Diesel 2D himself is very moderate framed, super deep bodied and extremely wide topped, with lots of natural muscling. You cant help but admire the herd bull presence he has had since he was a week old. To top this off he also has a super temperament.

Million got injured before Barry’s bull sale and so we were able to buy him later that summer. We only had a small sample of calves in 2016 but are looking forward to lots more in 2017. Million is a real long bodied, power and performance sire. His first calves were born average size and sure took off after that with amazing growth and phenotype. His dam is a great cow who really made her mark in the industry. Between Labattes and Meadow Acres they have a large number of descendants in their elite herds. We partnered with Robb Farms and Bouchard Livestock to purchase Missile for $100,000 making him the high selling black bull in Canada in 2016. His sire is a bull Ryan and I really admired when we made him grand champion at Manitoba Ag EX and then he went on to be grand champion at Agribition three weeks later. The dam is a beautiful LFE Bundi daughter that Mcmillans state is one of the most elite females they have ever raised. Missile himself looks like a real herd bull with a real presence about him. He attracted a lot of attention while in stud with many favorable comments. The herdsman at Alta tell us his temperament is very laid back and easy going. Watch for Missile progeny in 2017.

This is the power bull of the 2016 Red Zones. He had a actual weaning weight of 870lbs at only 171 days of age and after weaning went on to gain at a great clip. His dam is a big, cherry red cow who always does a great job. One of her Walk The Line daughters who we sold to MRL through the agribition sale raised one of the feature black bulls [lot 55] in there 2017 bull sale. Another of her daughters, a Tracker, we sold to Craig Hogg at Simmsational 2015 for $20,500. 62D had a tough January. His CCIA tag caused a wicked ear infection that really set him back. His ear still hangs a bit but he is fine now. This is a calf that just keeps getting better every day. His great young dam weaned him at an actual weight of 995lbs with a birth weight of only 80lbs. His sire is known for siring easy calving, light birth weight and extremely maternal offspring. 3D has a milk EPD of 35.9 which is in the top 2% if the entire Simmental breed. His great young dam was bred by the Workman’s from Manitoba and we purchased her from Everett Olson as a bred heifer at Shades 2015. Have a careful look at this guy, We think you could use him on your heifers or cow herd and you would be left with a super set of replacement females.

Red Zone 85D is a real strong maternally bred bull. His real good young Seismic dam has a milk EPD of 33.7 which puts her in the top 10% of the breed. She goes back to a Big Sky cow who was a top producer at our place. Remember all our bulls with the exception of those out of boughten heifers are April calves so they will be 60 to 90 days younger than most of the rest of the bulls in the sale. We feel IPU Red Zone 16A, sire of Red Zone 85D considering their age they dont give up performance to any of them.

This big fella is all about power and performance. Despite being born unassisted out of a heifer and with only a 86lbs birth weight he weaned at an actual 965lbs and has gone on to gain 4.85 lbs/day after weaning. TERMS AND CONDITIONS The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at sale location unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made prior to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. Bouchard Livestock Ltd reserves the right to require a certified cheque as settlement before releasing any sale cattle. Should the purchaser fail to settle for his purchase, Bouchard Livestock Ltd. reserves full power to resell the animal to the best advantage, either publicly or privately, without further notice. Any loss arising from such resale, together with keep and all other expenses shall be payable by the defaulter. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The owners, Bouchard Livestock Ltd. and sale staff have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment and/or who has not made prior credit arrangements prior to the sale with the owners and/or Sale Management. Bid Every animal consigned to the sale must be sold by auction. No by-bidding will be permitted. Each animal will be sold to the highest bidder.

Disputes In cases of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters will be final.

Purchaser’s Risk Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold.

Announcements from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay attention to any such announcements.

Certificate Of Registry The proper Registration of Recordation paper, as the case may be, will be duly transferred and furnished to the buyer for each animal after settlement has been made.

Shipping Assistance will be given in making shipment after the sale, but Sale Management or Seller assumes no risk. Expenses incurred are the responsibility of the purchaser. Purchasers are requested to furnish shipping instruction when making settlement.

Guarantee All animals will carry standard breeding guarantee as specified by the applicable Canadian breed Association. At no time shall the seller’s liability exceed the purchased price of the animal. Exception To Guarantee In cases where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, the guarantee shall be null and void. In the cases of bulls, they are guaranteed to breed naturally according to applicable Canadian breed Association guarantee, but no guarantee is given that semen from any bull will freeze. Health It is the buyer’s responsibility to determine health requirements for importing any animal into his province or state. Bouchard Livestock Ltd assumes no responsibility for the health status of any animal in the sale.

Accidents Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the Sale Management, auctioneer, or Association assumes any responsibility in this matter and disclaims any liability legal or otherwise in the event of accident or loss of property. Rights And Obligations The above terms and conditions of the sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction and the rights and the terms and conditions of this sale do not cover obligations of the two parties connected thereto.

Bouchard Livestock Ltd Is Agent Only It is clearly understood that Bouchard Livestock Ltd acts only as agent between buyer and seller and is not in any way responsible for any failure by either party to live up to his or her obligations. Bouchard Livestock Ltd does not assume any financial obligations to collect or enforce collection of monies by either parties, and in exceptional case, any legal action will be between buyer and seller.
