ABLE TO SAIL YOUTH EMPOWERMENT CAMP

Longmont 720-233-8969 abletosail.org

Learn to sail. Learn self-esteem. Learn to navigate youth. Learn the basics of sailing: parts of the boat, rigging, capsize recovery, boat handling, tacking, jibing and points of sail. Sailing then serves as the foundation on which we teach self-esteem — a skill, like sailing, which can be learned, and in teen culture today, we must be teaching! We do that by discussing how lessons learned about sailing can be applied to navigating the stormy seas of youth, inspiring them into their greatest-yet-to-be! We also have two LGBTQIA+ Empowerment Camps! And our Classic Camp at Union Reservoir, Longmont, for ages 11 - 18; various weeks Monday thru Friday, June – August. Cost $395.

SAILING CAMPS BY COMMUNITY SAILING OF COLORADO

Boulder

303-757-7718 communitysailing.org

Little Puffs Sailing Camp | Ages 5 - 6

For our youngest campers, these weeklong camps introduce sailing, water safety and boating. This is a great introduction on how to have fun and be safe on the water. Sailing together as a group with the instructor and taking turns with each job in a larger Venture Keel 18 or Capri 14 sailboat, is a great way to teach the fundamentals with this age group.

Younger Learn to Sail Camp | Ages 7 - 9

This is for beginning sailors or sailors continuing to fine tune basic skills. Campers will sail 2 or 3 to a boat in a small age-appropriate Pram or Bug sailboat. This class emphasizes learning the basics, feeling comfortable on the water, and having fun. At this level, campers practice capsizing and righting boats so it is required that campers feel comfortable swimming in a PFD in natural/darker water.

Double-Handed Intermediate Sailing Camp | Ages 10 -17

This camp is perfect for anyone who has already mastered the basic skills from Learn to Sail and is

ready for a more challenging boat with a second sail. Campers will sail with a partner in an RS Feva while strengthening the skills needed for efficient teamwork on a 2-person sailboat. The goals of the camp include tacking, jibing, sail trim, all points of sail, boat handling, knot tying and efficient capsize recovery with a partner.

Older Learn to Sail Camp | Ages

10 -17

This entry-level camp is perfect for beginning sailors ages 10 and up. Campers will sail in ageappropriate Tiwal or Capri 14 sailboats. This class emphasizes learning the basic, feeling comfortable on the water, and having fun. Please note that with a wide age range in this camp, we recommend older campers sign up with a friend or look at our teens-only learn to sail camp. At this level, campers practice capsizing and righting boats so it is required that campers have previous swimming experience. This includes the ability to swim in an intended direction while wearing a PFD for 25 meters.

Advanced Feva Sailing Camp | Ages

10 - 17

Sailors at this level are ready to take on the challenge needed for more advanced double-handed sailing in all types of wind. Campers will sail with a partner in an RS Feva while strengthening the skills needed for efficient teamwork on a two-person sailboat. While sailing with a partner, campers will focus on boat handling, right of way, and sailing in all conditions under control. Sailors will even begin to learn the fundamentals of flying a third sail (spinnaker) to optimize speed, practice advanced boat handling, and prepare for expertlevel classes.

Teens-only Learn to Sail Camp | Ages 13 - 17

This camp is more independent than other entrylevel camps and is perfect for first-time teen sailors. It is tailored for teenagers who want to learn to sail but are not looking for a kid’s summer camp experience. Sailors will be in age-appropriate Tiwal or Capri 14 sailboats. This class emphasizes learning the basics, feeling comfortable on the water, and having fun with other teens.

Windsurf + SUP + Sail Camp | Ages 9 - 17

This combo camp is a great introduction to both paddle and sail-based sports. Campers learn basic windsurfing, sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, and kayak skills through fun games and challenges. Campers will rotate between various sports based on optimal weather conditions and campers’ interest. Please note with a wide age range in this camp, we recommend older campers sign up with a friend or look at our Teens Only Windsurf + SUP + Sail Camp.
