OWLET PRESS

NEW TITLES Autumn - Winter 2020

A warm welcome

to our autumn-winter 2020 catalogue! Our roots outside publishing have provided Owlet Press with an appetite to always look for fresh angles to challenge conventions - cultivating a unique, inclusive, and authentic list for 2020/21. We nurture and champion authors and illustrators from all walks of life and being LGBT run, diversity flows in our veins. We were a ‘one-man’ operation in our infancy, but we have grown with help and guidance from a close-knit group of industry experts in freelance/ consulting roles. We’re now a tiny but respected inclusive press, publishing stories that help create more positive futures for all children, celebrating characters, authors and illustrators from all backgrounds and communities. This is the way we’ve always been, from ‘incidentally inclusive’ illustrations across every title, to searching for the best talent in undiscovered and neglected areas of society. Every author has an important story to tell either within or behind their books. To date, our books have shown young readers of colour, those from non-traditional families and readers with additional physical or emotional needs, joyful characters that are like them experiencing the magic of playful, imaginative stories; and for more privileged, white, non-disabled readers to see children that don’t always look like them in picture books too. As Owlet Press has continued to grow and get noticed, we have been able to work with new authors who have the same beliefs as we do, from even more underrepresented communities. Our new signings for 2021/22 will enable us to continue publishing stories that speak more directly towards diversity, which is even more important now, due to the challenges that are erupting within our society today. We hope you enjoy the selection of titles from our a/w season and look forward to sharing our new content for spring/summer ‘21 in the not too distant future. Stay safe.

Sam Langley-Swain. Founder and Managing Director.
