Murnau’s eerie gothic psycho-drama, created in 1922, set the template for the horror films that followed. Cabinet’s score uses a range of voices– harp, guitar, viola, clarinet and percussion – to reflect the film’s pioneering expressionism. This landmark vampire film begins in the Carpathian mountains, where real estate agent Hutter has arrived to close a sale with the reclusive Herr Orlok. BEAF TWO FOR ONE! ONE NIGHT AT SHELLEY THEATRE - TWO PERFORMERS Date: Add: Cost:

Thurs 3 May 7.30pm Shelley Theatre, Beechwood Avenue Bournemouth BH5 1LX £10/£8- shelleytheatre.co.uk

SCOTT LAVENE NARCISSISM THE MUSICAL Carlos is a narcissist. A cockney narcissist. But it wasn’t always this way. A charming tale of youth and vanity, cross-dressing and solitude. It contains semi-nudity, bad dancing, sad piano ballads and rousing anthems. The show follows Carlos’s life from a small and terrified trainee narcissist to drug and booze addled narcissism and finally to the graceful and beautiful narcissist of the present day. A tale of redemption and hope. And tight trousers.

MY MASON PEPPER’S GHOST As the granddaughter of the late Lionel Jeffries, Amy’s performance tells a story of chance encounter and coincidence. 30 years ago, Jeffries came across a young man on a park bench in Bournemouth Gardens, in great distress, having just lost his friend to AIDS. Through coincidence the man, Kyle Wallace, became a friend of Amy’s many years later, and finally got to express his gratitude. This performance uses spoken word and live, close magic to retell this moving story, honouring Bournemouth’s history as an LGBT friendly town. Amy won the Dundee International Book Prize with her debut novel, The Other Ida.

Date: Fri 4 May Time: 8pm Add: Vita Nova, 11 Roumelia Lane BH5 1EU Ticket: Pay what you can afford (suggested donation £5) www.gemmaalldred.co.uk The performance is inspired by truth, lies and the strange ‘reality’ we find ourselves in, where ‘false news’ and Facebook are facts of life. Drawing together autobiography and philosophy, the performance traces the connections between the often life changing lies, and the writings of philosopher Jean Baudrillard, whoose ideas seem to eerily predicate a world view which has less and less idea of what the truth really is, and if it even matters any more. How do you know who you are, if you can’t be sure what you know any more?

RIMSKI & HANDKERCHIEF LAURA POCKETT AND OLIVER CUMMING

The final day of the BEAF festival we take over Boscombe Precinct for the BEAF Bank Holiday Street Festival!

A newly formed street theatre duo, Laura Pocket and Oli Cumming perform as two clowns, one riding a piano bicycle, the other a ‘double bassicle’. They pedal, pluck and perform through the crowds, interacting with the audience and negotiating a route through the landscape, while playing and singing songs.

The precinct will be hopping with live performance, a street food market, workshops, a parade of artcars and lots of lively events throughout the day! Come along and see performances including:

EVENING & SATURDAY SHORT COURSES 2018–19

BEAF would like to thank the generosity of all those who have made the 2018 Festival happen, and who have supported us to create this incredible showcase of local creativity. This would not have been possible without all the support from our dedicated team of volunteers, our student placements from Arts University Bournemouth, our Board of Directors, and all the local businesses and organisations who have contributed their time and energy to make the festival happen. The festival also wouldn’t happen without the incredible talents of all the artists, performers, companies and creative communities, to whom we are extremely grateful. The BEAF Team look forward to working with everyone again!
