From September there will be plenty of events and activities to help you meet new people, explore and start feeling at home.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll keep you updated about the events and activities happening at the start of term. In the meantime, check out the next few pages for a feel of what to expect.
Arrivals activities
Your university experience starts from 20 September with information, activities and events to give you an introduction to university life and the BU services that will support you during your time here. We encourage you to participate in some of the activities on offer as they provide an opportunity for you to meet new people and settle in. You’ll find these activities listed in our ‘What’s on guide’.
Course induction
Organised by your faculty and course teams, your course induction is an essential introduction to your studies at BU. Course induction starts from 20 September – and includes activities, workshops and informal opportunities to get to know others on your course. Your induction timetable will usually be explained to you at your first session, so it’s important you attend.
What’s on guide
Make sure you check our website for a comprehensive list of activities and events taking place from 20 September. This year we have lots of exciting things happening on campus to create a fun and welcoming atmosphere. So whatever you’re ready for, whether you’re a local, or this is your first time in Bournemouth and you’ve travelled from elsewhere in the UK or further afield, take a little time to join in, have some fun and meet other BU students:

On arrival our friendly Global Engagement Team, AskBU staff and Students’ Union can help you find your way around or something to do if you’re feeling a bit nervous – just ask. They can also point you in the direction of where to collect your keys, your room, the local supermarket and whatever else you may need. Check page 39 for contact details.
Go out and explore
Bournemouth is situated in a beautiful part of the world and there’s so much to do, so go out and explore when you get the opportunity. Check out the ‘Getting around’ and ‘What’s on’ pages in this guide for information on buses and exploring the area.

• Have a BBQ on the beach or an ice cream in
Bournemouth’s lovely gardens • Ride the Bournemouth Zip Wire • Enjoy dinner and a movie at BH2,
Bournemouth’s largest cinema complex • Play the musical trail on Boscombe Pier • Visit the gallery or enjoy an art-house film at the Lighthouse in Poole.
