Introduction Welcome to Student Activities and Enrichment Make the most of your time as a student at Bournville College and get involved in the wide range of enrichment activities we have on offer this year. We have a varied programme of activities which includes sports, volunteering, trips and much more.

Student Activities & Enrichment

Student Identity Cards It is important that the college is a safe environment for everyone, part of making this so are identity cards which everyone in the college is required to wear. Please help us by wearing your card at all times. Access to activities and the Common Room is dependent on you wearing your card.

Sports We have sport to suit everyone here at Bournville College. Improve your health and increase fitness levels, meet new friends and have fun. Whether you want to play recreationally or compete against other colleges then you’re in the right place.

Football College Team For details on when trials will take place for the 2010-11 season please see the football notice board outside the sports hall. As a college we participate in the local West Midland College league and cup competitions.

4-a-side football This year we will be running a termly 4-a-side football competition in the sports hall. This will run on a weekly basis. Get your teams registered in the autumn term.

Futsal Similar to 5-a-side football, but played on a smaller playing surface, with a smaller ball and mainly played indoors. The rules create an emphasis on improvisation, creativity and technique.

Basketball Experienced and new players are welcome to come and join the College basketball squad. We have male and female teams who compete in West Midland College Leagues and Cup competitions. Come and enjoy the game and get fit.

Badminton Sessions are held in the sports hall and off-site, teams will be entered in tournaments and leagues. Requires co-ordination, skill and stamina. Any of these qualities? Then come along!

Table tennis Held at lunchtimes between 12pm - 2pm in the sports hall. The college will select a squad from these sessions to take part in inter-college matches throughout the year.

Student Activities & Enrichment

Tennis Anyone for tennis? We offer free tennis lessons at Weoley Hills Tennis Club. Open to both complete novices and those who would like to think they can be the next Andy Murray!

Rounders Dust off your training shoes and join the fun in the sun. In the spring term we offer rounders sessions on the field. For those who desire a more competitive edge we also take part in a rounder’s festival where you can pit your skills against other colleges.

Cricket Attention all cricketers. Players needed to represent your college in an annual West Midlands College cricket event. If you have any experience in playing the game come along to our pre-competition training sessions and get involved.

2011 West Midlands Golf Competition Pit yourself against other quality college golfers in this annual competition. Golf handicaps are essential for participation.

2011 West Midlands Athletics Competition Runners, jumpers and throwers needed. Look out for our athletics trials in the summer term.

If you have an interest in any other sports/activities we will do our best to accommodate you. Keep an eye on the notice boards for new activities taking place throughout the year!

Student Activities hold various competitions throughout the year in the sports hall, common room and on the football pitch. If you like competing then there will be something for you!

Fitness Gym Free Membership! Keep fit and stay healthy. Come and use a range of cardiovascular, free weights and resistance machines. Whether you are new to fitness or a regular gym user you must have a gym induction. These will take place on Thursday afternoons and can be booked in BG19.

Film Club Everyone Welcome! Watch great films on our big screen. Popular films will be shown every Wednesday at 3pm in The Common Room. For the real cinema feel we provide popcorn and chocolate. Sit back, relax after lesson and enjoy the film.

Guitar Lessons Ever thought about playing the guitar? Well now is your chance. We have beginners and intermediate lessons available. You will receive quality instruction from the start.

The student magazine is published once a term. The Buzz is your magazine and your voice. This is where WE NEED YOU! We are always looking for reporters, writers, photographers and much more. Interested? Then contact Nicola Thomson at nicola.thomson@bournville.ac.uk or telephone 0121 483 1017.

Bournville’s Got Talent Competition Show us your talent... Bournville’s Got Talent is open to all current students at Bournville College. Auditions will take place on Tuesday 5th April 2011 between 11am - 2pm in the Common Room. No pre-booking needed, simply turn up on the day and wow the judges. The winner leaves with a selection of fantastic prizes!

Volunteering Bournville College Volunteering Scheme Whatever your area of interest we can help you add that something extra to your CV, earn a qualification and assist you in gaining paid work abroad in your summer break. Bournville College Volunteering Scheme is open to all students. During our weekly meetings we will help you find a volunteering position in or outside of college. By logging your volunteer hours you can work towards the V50 award and other incentives. There are many reasons for volunteering, below are some that volunteers themselves have given;

Examples of volunteering that take place in the college and the commuinty include being a Student Union Executive, writing for the Student Magazine, taking part in charity events as a Student Ambassador, sports coaching, helping in a local school and visiting the elderly.

Student Ambassadors Becoming a Student Ambassador is a great way to volunteer. They help out at college open days, attend visits to local schools, assist at parents evenings and are involved at careers evenings.

Other Services Student Union - Your Voice, Your Say, Your Union! By enrolling at the College you automatically become a member of the Student Union.

Student Union Elections Elections, in which all students are eligible to stand and vote, decide the members of the Executive. The President sits on the College Corporation which is the highest decision making level at the College. The Executive send delegates to the National Union of Students Annual Conference each year in April. Elections will be taking place in October. They are a great chance for you to get involved and make a real difference at college.

C-Card Scheme Every Teenager and Young Adult’s Guide to Relationships, Sexual Health and Contraception including Free Condoms Applicable to students whom are aged 25 and under. All Services provided are confidential. Visits are made to Hollymoor, Longbridge and AMS sites.
