It is amazing how many new skills you can gain in such a short space of time. I’ve really enjoyed the course, I learnt so much and I met many people who were in the same situation as me. Noula Knight, Back to Work

Welcome to Bournville College’s September 2010 Course Guide

Make the most of our 10% early enrolment discount on tuition fees on most courses if you enrol before Friday 13th August. The discount does not apply to courses marked with # or *. Normal terms and conditions apply. We look forward to welcoming you to Bournville College!

Further information about each course is available on our website www.bournville.ac.uk. If you are unsure about your options, don’t worry. Just pop in to an enrolment session (dates are printed on the back cover) and speak to one of our advisors who will be able to recommend a course that is right for you.

Paying for your study We will advise you about fee information, costs involved and concessions available when you enquire about your course.

It is important to bear in mind that additional costs may be incurred for materials and specialist equipment.

Helping you meet the cost of your study There are a range of concessions, additional funding and reductions to help you meet the costs of studying. For example, you may be eligible for free tuition fees if your course is part-funded by the Skills Funding Agency and you fall into one of the following categories: • 16-18 years old studying a full or part-time programme • 19-25 years old enrolling on your first full level 3 qualification

• In receipt of Jobseekers' Allowance • In receipt of an income-based benefit or equivalent i.e. Income Support, Working Tax Credit (household income less than £15,276), Housing Benefit, Pension Credit (Guarantee Credit only). Council Tax Benefit (25% single occupancy discount does not apply) or Employment Support Allowance (income-related only) • An unwaged dependant of someone in the above categories • Enrolling for the first time on a full-time level 2 qualification • Enrolling on Apprenticeship training for learners aged under 25 • Enrolling on Prince’s Trust, Entry to Employment or Literacy & Numeracy courses • If you are employed, self-employed or a volunteer you may be eligible for funding towards the cost of your training; call 0121 222 5656 for further details. Please note that these concessions relate to tuition fees only. Awarding body costs and exam fees are the responsibility of learners aged 19 and over - please enquire about funding options that may be available, dependant on your individual circumstances. Important notices: • Fee concessions do NOT apply to courses annotated with #. Free courses, fees and discounts quoted apply to UK and EU residents only. Overseas students should contact the International Office on 0121 483 1083. • In order to claim free tuition you will be required to provide original proof of benefits and/or proof of income which must be dated no older than 3 months. Your enrolment will not be finalised until this information is provided.

Other financial support available If you do not fall into any of the categories listed, our Student Finance Team can provide information on alternative financial support available to you. Please contact them on 0121 483 1111 or email studentfinance@bournville.ac.uk

Additional learning support We have specialist staff who can help identify, co-ordinate and monitor additional support for students with disabilities/learning difficulties. If you feel that you may need support when you come to college, call the Assessment & Support Team on 0121 483 1061 or email additionalsupport@bournville.ac.uk

W. www.bournville.ac.uk

If you are paying for your course, please bring a method of payment with you - cash, debit or credit card (the college does not accept cheques). If your fees are to be paid wholly or in part by your employer, please bring a letter from your employer or an official purchase order. In most cases, fees are annual and payment is required at enrolment. In the case of courses longer than 15 weeks which exceed £100, arrangements for part-payment can be made. These are subject to a £10 administration charge.

Apprenticeships

Short courses in the workplace

Apprenticeships are designed to meet the needs of your organisation. This means that apprenticeship training is always relevant and it is tailored to the needs of your sector, by people who genuinely understand what you do. Training can be flexible, leads to nationally recognised qualifications and your staff will be supported to learn in the workplace. Apprenticeships last between one and four years dependant on which programme your employee undertakes.

We offer a range of ‘bite size’ courses that can be delivered at the employer’s premises. We also offer a tailoring service for training whereby we design a course to meet specific needs of an employer. Please call 0121 222 5663 or 0121 222 5656 for further information.
