Thank you for considering Bournville College for your studies. When you finish school, the world is your oyster and the range of courses on offer at Bournville College enables you to take a route that suits you best. Whether you want to go on to university, prepare for the world of work or brush up on subjects you couldn’t get to grips with at school, we can help. We are proud of what we do - the quality of our courses, our staff and student support - all of these things are important when considering your next steps. At our last inspection, the Office for Standards in Education (OfSTED) recognised the College as 'outstanding' for educational and social inclusion, proving our commitment in providing opportunities for the many communities we serve. If you decide to join Bournville College this year, you will be doing so in the most important year in our history. You will be one of the first students to study in our £66 million new campus opening in Longbridge. We will be moving in September 2011 but we will take our values and philosophy with us - continuing to provide you with quality education and training which is relevant to your future, whilst giving you all the support that you need and deserve. We hope you’ll join us in our new campus in September. In the meantime, I’d like to wish you all the best in your final year at school.

n a h t e r o much m o study a place t When you join Bournville College, you become part of a community. Our students engage in a variety of activities, giving them a great social life whilst studying and ensuring they make the most of their time at the College.
student activities...
In addition, students get involved in a range of fundraising events for well-known charities and initiatives, such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Children in Need and Comic Relief. Students also contribute articles to the student magazine 'The buzz' and get to see their work reach a wide student audience throughout the College.
The Student Activities Team organises a range of student events throughout the year, both on and off the campus. These include sports sessions and recreational activities such as Film Club or guitar lessons. Off-site, there are plenty of trips to places like Alton Towers and Warwick Castle. Other activities organised by the Student Activities Team include paintballing, bowling, ice skating and many more.
themed weeks...
getting involved...
You don’t have to be studying sports in order to take part in them! If you have an interest in sport, you can join one of our Sport Development Centres in Football, Basketball or Badminton. They will allow you to attend regular training sessions with qualified coaches, represent the College in the British College League, earn nationally-recognised qualifications in your chosen sport, and we can even help you coach abroad. In addition, coaching sessions are also organised in futsal, tennis, cricket, table tennis and more. Even if you just want to improve your general fitness levels, you will be able to do that in our gym with state-of-the-art equipment.
When enrolling at the College, you automatically become a member of the Student Union. Elections, where all students are eligible to stand and vote, decide the members of the Executive. The President sits on the College Corporation which is the highest decision making body at the College. At the start of every academic year, the College holds a Freshers’ Fair, giving you an opportunity to sign up to various clubs across the College and the local community. For example, you can become a Student Ambassador, helping to promote the College to future generations whilst getting good work experience and earning money at the same time.
Several themed weeks are held throughout the year, focusing on issues that help you live a better life. Be Safe Week, Health Awareness Week and Student Volunteering Week enable students to become a part of the vibrant College community.

e r o m h c mu m o o r s s a l than a c Our students don’t spend all of their time in a classroom. Trips and visits are a regular part of every course, designed to provide you with plenty of stimulating experiences and enrich your learning in a fun and sociable way. Local and national visits include museums, galleries, theatres, cinemas, nature parks, hotels, factories, sports venues, concert venues and more, depending on your chosen course. Not surprisingly, the most popular trips are those which take students out of the country. Some of the recent trips have included: • Paris (Science and Supported Learning students) • Madrid (Art & Design students) • Florence (Art & Design students) • A cruise around Venetian coast (Travel & Tourism students) • Frankfurt (Business Studies students) • Suhl in Germany (Beauty Therapy students) • Lanzarote (Sports students) • Cyprus (Public Services students) • Cern in Switzerland (Science students) • Dublin (Travel & Tourism students)

counselling...
You will be assigned a personal tutor at the start of the course and during your time at the College this person will be your first port of call for any problems. They will provide you with one-to-one support and encouragement throughout your studies as well as point you in the right direction if you need further support and advice.
We believe that it is important for you not to be distracted from your studies by problems and concerns occurring either in or outside college. Penny Brown, the College Counsellor, provides a confidential counselling service to all students. You can talk to Penny about any issues which are troubling you.
careers team... The Careers team will work closely with you during your time at the College, preparing you for your future. In addition to providing one-to-one support at our specialist Careers Centre, they organise regular events and activities to help you decide what you want to do after you leave College. These include visits to universities, talks by employers and the annual Higher Education Fair.

Thanks to additional support at Bournville College, I have overcome everyday life barriers to achieve A Levels and get a place at university. My dedication and commitment to learning was recognised by the Additional Support Team at Bournville College, who nominated me for a Regional Individual Award as part of Adult Learners’ Week in May 2010. I was over the moon just to be nominated but to win the award was amazing!
