Promising bowlers in Under 18s

Thirteen promising junior bowlers took to the greens for the Dyenamic Sublimation Under 18 State Championships which was played at Cambridge Bowling Club from April 13-15. The first event to be played was the Triples and with four teams in contention this was played as a round robin event. Given this was the first time many of these juniors had played together the camaraderie was exceptional.

The composite side of Ruby Leggett (Osborne Park) as skip with Joshua Vlahos (Joondalup) second and Callum Alberti (South Perth) lead were the stand out team finishing with three strong wins 234, 14-4 and 11-3.

Finishing as runner-ups were Segan Pasalich (Osborne Park) with Cam Wellington and Dante Burnham (Harvey) who had two wins and the one loss.

In the pairs six teams were split into sections. In section 1 Segan Pasalich and Callum Alberti advanced to the final with 13-9 and 14-5 victories whilst Section 2 saw Ruby Leggett with Brock Kilmurray (Dandaragan) also record two wins 10-8 and 10-5.

The final saw some terrific bowls played by both sides however it was Pasalich and Alberti who came out on top with a nice 13-6 victory.

The last scheduled event was the blue ribbon singles championship and all players were in their best form having had plenty of ends in the previous two disciplines. The three sectional winners were Segan Pasalich, Callum Alberti and Cam Wellington.

Pasalich and Alberti played in the semifinal in what was a great encounter. The younger of the two Alberti started magnificently with some fantastic draw bowling to have his more experienced opponent under pressure.

Pasalich however who was part of the Osborne Park Premier League victory was able to eventually gain control and went on to win 21-14.

In the final Wellington had to come up against Pasalich who was now in red hot form.

Both players had some great ends but the consistency of Pasalich really shone out as the match progressed.

Congratulations to Segan Pasalich for a well deserved 21-10 victory and he joins some of the elite juniors to have played for WA amongst the honour roll.

Overall a big well done to all the Under 18 players and thank you for the support they received from parents and supporters including some of our high performance coaches.

The Under 18 players will now prepare for the Australian Under 18 National series in October 2021 on the Gold Coast at Broadbeach Bowling Club.
