Centre Stage
Gordon Pattullo Gordon in 2007 was NAAFC Guest Artist of the Year and in 2008 a Guest of Honour. He started learning the accordion as an 11-year-old and has since worked with many famous artists both home and abroad.
When was the first time you performed in public? A diddling competition at my local primary school in the village of Kettins near Coupar Angus.

What do you appreciate most in life? My health, my wonderful family and the fantastic view from my house.
What is your most cherished childhood memory? Getting my first wooden cartie with pram wheels on it.
Who was a big influence in your life and /or your music? My parents who taught me to appreciate life in the countryside and shared their interest in Scottish music with me.
What was your first job? Professional musician.
What is your greatest indulgence? Buying accordion parts from Italy for my tuning/ repair business whether I need them or not.
What is your abiding musical memory? Meeting Will Starr and hearing him play at the Blairgowrie Accordion & Fiddle Club.
What are your worst fears? Not getting to a gig in time.
What are the best places in the world you have visited? Australia, New Zealand, USA & Canada.
What is your favourite musical venue? His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen.
How would you like to be remembered? As the guy who composed The Furrows End.
What makes you angry, annoyed or short tempered? When someone hasn’t put something back where it should be when I go to look for it.
What is your favourite location in Scotland? Oban.
If you had to leave what would you miss and what would you be glad to see the back of? Scottish humour. People complaining about the Scottish weather.
If your house was on fire what item would you save? My diary.
Who are your heroes and why? Will Starr for inspiring me to play the accordion. Glen Campbell - I loved his songs but was blown away by his guitar playing!
The Scottish dance music scene - your thoughts and hopes? Some areas are waning while others are flourishing. People love to dance, so if we can keep up with the times and adapt, there will hopefully always be dancers across the generations for musicians to play for.
What 5 people would you invite to your dream dinner party? Any 5 people from the Repair Shop on BBC1. They are all so talented.
Your 1, 2, 3 of favourite tunes/songs? Ingram’s 35 by Freeland Barbour, Walking on the Waves by Skipinnish, Lochanside by P/M John McLellan.
