CONSERVING MEMORIES OF THE SITE The apartment buildings on the site would be removed, however, new park still need construction. It could be both economical and characteristic to transform the old houses into cafes and restaurants. Also, the existing trees are valuable. In my project, I utilized the old buildings and vegetation as much as possible and gave them a new lease of life.

LOCATION

STATEMENT Harbin is the capital and largest city of Heilongjiang province in China's northeast region, as well as the tenth most populous city nationally. Hanan New Town is the key development area of Harbin in recent years, where metro is used to connect to the main region of the city. Nantuo Park is situated next to the 1st station of the metro lines. The surroundings are all residential areas. It’s foreseeable that the main users of the park will be early settlers of the new town.

Integrate In Woods Architecture design of cafe

Location: 768 Creative Industry Park, Beijing, China Size: 400m² Type: Academic, Individual work Tutor: QIN Yan (Email:qinyanhello@163.com) Date: 2012.11~12 (1st Semester of Junior Year)

14

STATEMENT Beijing 768 Creative Industry Park is converted from an old factory. With a long history, there are many big trees in the compound. A cafe is planned to build on an abandoned court in the woods. This piece of woods is very scenic, which is very rare in a high density city. This project started with concerns of woods, trying to blur the line between the building and the environment. An open atrium encloses two big sycamores, so the trees become part of the built environment. Windows as frames of landscape, courtyard for stroll, parapets for sit, a path disappearing in woods, all these make the building integrate in woods.

Fragrance Hill

SITE CONTEXTS Famous for spectacular scenery and buddhism , Fragrance Hill is one of the most well-known and long-established resorts in China. Meichang Street is a main road in this area, it leads to a hillside old temple, which is a quiet place adored by local residents and pilgrims.

This project was particularly concerned with creating closer link between the local’s daily life and tourism, making it possible for everyone to experience quiet and elegant life pace there. We first sorted the transport system, established a pedestrian and opened up a new road to relieve traffic pressure. We retained valuable houses, and continued the tradition style in new construction. We also made use of every available blank to build green space to form a complete green system.

CENTRAL MARKET : A Multi-function Green Space Located in the heart of Meichang Street , this temporary market is crucial to local residents. People come here everyday to buy some food or just take a walk. The area next to the market was filled with construction waste and earth. Surrounded by mountains, it’s an ideal spot to enjoy the sight of Fragrance Hills.

Travel Sketches ----Learning In Journey It is said that traveling broadly is crucial to a landscape architect’s growth. Fortunately, I am exactly a passionate backpacker. Over the years, I’ve been to many places of China. Meanwhile, I recorded what I saw and thought with my pen. Nature and life is my best teacher,I really benefit a lot.
