QUALITY TRAINING IN THE NT

The MTA is continuing to work with Charles Darwin University (CDU) to ensure the continuation of automotive courses and set new standards of quality for training delivery. During May’s Zone Meeting in Darwin, members received a detailed presentation from Leith Darrach, the CDU’s Team Leader Automotive, Transport & Civil. In subsequent discussions at the meeting, members were able to provide invaluable industry feedback on their requirements.

“Recently we worked very closely with the NT Government and Charles Darwin University, to achieve the continuation of three courses that were slated for removal from the curriculum,” said Nathan Groves, the MTA’s Membership and Division Manager.

“The MTA is working together with Charles Darwin University, making sure that they're aware of industry needs and that they get industry feedback to achieve the best quality training possible.”

NT VISIT

Nathan and the MTA’s NT Regional Coordinator, Rodger Sewell, visited businesses in both the Darwin and Alice Springs regions.

“Skill shortages is the number one issue in both cities,” said Nathan.

“There are two aspects to this. The first is getting access to experienced, skilled workers and the second is about access to high quality apprentices.

“Alice Springs members are also very concerned about the high crime rate and its impact on the community.

“I came away very impressed by the resilience of members. Many have been in the Territory for a long time and have gone through some tough times but they remain passionate about their businesses and their communities.”
