THE INDUSTRY WELCOMES DIGITAL MVR FOR BUSINESS PORTAL
from Motor Trade March 2021 NT
by Boylen
The Motor Trade Association has welcomed the move to online transactions in their dealings with the NT’s MVR.
Businesses are now able to manage and complete a range of vehicle registration and ownership transactions through the MVR for Business portal.
The MVR for Business portal will allow more than 7,000 Territory businesses to access vehicle registration transactions 24 hours a day, without having to attend an MVR office or police outstation.
Licensed motor vehicle dealers now have the ability to:
• renew registrations in bulk
• re-register previously registered NT vehicles and transfer an interstate registration
• submit notices of disposal - read responsibilities as a seller
• transfer ownership - read responsibilities as a buyer - you can transfer vehicles in and out of your name
• register factory-new vehicles - read register your vehicle for the first time
• record vehicle compliance checks.
Under the long sought-after changes, employers can also grant their staff access to carry out transactions on the business' behalf.
“The Territory Labor Government is making the NT the easiest place to do business,” the Government said in a statement.
“We are cutting red tape with local businesses now able to manage and complete more of their vehicle registration transactions through the new MVR for Business portal.
“It follows the Chief Minister’s announcement… about slashing business licensing and approvals timeframes.
“It will help businesses get down to business quicker with no need to visit an MVR shop front for a number of transactions that can now be completed online.”
The new portal has been developed for:
• licensed motor vehicle dealers
• trucking companies
• construction sectors
• taxi companies
• local governments
• authorised inspectors
• fleet operators.
“Our local businesses are critical to the success of the Territory and we are doing everything we can to help them do business, saving their time and money,” said the Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Eva Lawler:
“To support the local economy, we’ve made it easier for businesses to access popular vehicle registration transactions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through the secure, convenient and time-saving MVR for Business portal.
“We worked with industry to build a modern portal that is simple to use and has improved features including electronic signature capabilities as well as email, print and save options for registration certificates.”
