Visiting the Top End

BY PAUL UNERKOV, MTA SA/NT CEO

In September, MTA SA/NT Chair Frank Agostino and I visited Darwin and Alice Springs to meet with members, government and other industry participants. We met with 20 members during our trip and welcomed 12 members at our Darwin catch-up meeting.

In Darwin, we met with the Northern Territory government to discuss the implications of removing the towing roster in recent red tape reforms, and the Northern Territory electric vehicle plan.

We met with the new CEO of the Territory Insurance Office (TIO), Margaret Patten, to discuss the upcoming 2021 TIO Automotive Apprentice of the Year Awards and how our strong relationship can continue to benefit the automotive industry in the NT.

We caught up with Charles Darwin University to discuss working together to deliver electric vehicle training as well as addressing member feedback on the training they deliver.

We also saw the NT Workforce Development department to discuss addressing skill shortages as well as skilled migration, where a number of MTA members have candidates overseas they want to bring over.
