DECA PREPARES THE NEXT GENERATION TO BE
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT AND CEO
Give Big Gallatin Valley 2023, hosted by the One Valley Community Foundation, is just days away. On May 4th and May 5th, our community will come together to celebrate the best of Gallatin County – our generous spirit, our care for our friends and neighbors, and our united commitment to a stronger, more vibrant future for all of us.
Gallatin County is putting our community first and embracing this 24-hour event as the annual reminder to support the causes you care about most. Give Big is Gallatin County’s day to shine. Year after year, we have seen that communities across Gallatin County are strong and vibrant because of YOU.
Since its launch in 2015, One Valley’s Give Big has become a transformative force for good in our community, raising more than $11.4 million from thousands of generous givers – all for the benefit of hundreds of charitable organizations serving Gallatin County. For some organizations, Give Big is an opportunity to meet new donors. For others, it complements their annual fundraising efforts, giving them a much-needed boost to help meet their financial needs. We are deeply inspired by the thousands of donors who have supported hundreds of community-focused organizations
that make Gallatin County a special place to call home. And we want those organizations to thrive to continue to do good in our community.
We love Gallatin County and believe deeply in our mission of connecting people who care to causes that matter to build a better community. Gallatin County can only be strong and vibrant if we work together. This, in turn, will mean a stronger, healthier, and more prosperous future for all of us. At its core, Give Big Gallatin Valley is a day for you, your family, and your friends to support the causes you care about. It is a day we come together to care for our community and cheer for each other. It’s a day for all of us. Give Big is a reflection of our collective compassion.
Whether you give your time or your voice, whether you give $10 or $10,000, it’s the fact that you give that matters most. We hope you join us in celebrating the spirit of giving through One Valley Community Foundation’s Give Big starting at 6 pm on Thursday, May 4th and continuing through 6 pm on Friday, May 5th.
But most importantly, whether you decide to give through Give Big or not, we encourage everyone to celebrate what makes Gallatin County special and JUST GIVE – in any way, and on any day, you can.
Bridget Wilkinson, President and CEO, One Valley Community FoundationWHAT IS A DAY OF GIVING?
WHAT IS GIVE BIG GALLATIN VALLEY?
The 9th annual Give Big Gallatin Valley simplifies your giving and amplifies your impact. On May 4th and May 5th from 6 pm – 6 pm, neighbors across Gallatin County will come together with a goal to raise $3 million for 240+ local nonprofits in just 24 hours! As a community member, you have the chance to find and support organizations whose missions align with your passions.
The goal of the Give Big program is to:
• Raise the level of knowledge about nonprofit organizations in our county and highlight their positive impact on our well-being.
• Grow the base of engaged donors in Gallatin County – bringing new donors to our nonprofit organizations.
• Support the operating needs of nonprofit organizations that serve Gallatin County through donations and cash prizes.
HOW CAN I GIVE ON MAY 4TH AND 5TH?
1. Give online: Go to www.GiveBigGV.org to find a cause you care about and Give Big!
2. Give a gift of check: You can write a check directly to the nonprofit you would like to support and mail it directly to that nonprofit or you can give to multiple organizations via one check through the One Valley Community Foundation. If you would like to drop off a check, come by the Give Big headquarters in the One Valley Community Foundation office (865 Technology Blvd, Ste B) on Friday, May 5th between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
3. Be a fundraising champion: You can create your own unique fundraising page for your favorite nonprofit and share it with your circles through email and social media.
4. Support: Show your support by attending nonprofit events, promoting Give Big or a specific nonprofit on your social media, and reminding your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors about Give Big!
WHEN IS THE EVENT?
Give Big will be hosted from Thursday, May 4th to Friday, May 5th from 6 pm - 6 pm.
WHERE IS THE EVENT?
During Give Big, thousands of community members will go online to www.GiveBigGV.org, find a cause they care about, and donate. Some organizations will host live events throughout the 24-hours. To see a schedule of events, please go to page 34-37.
WHO CREATED GIVE BIG?
The One Valley Community Foundation is honored to organize this event each year. We are invested in bringing awareness to the local nonprofit organizations that make our community a vibrant place for us to live, work, and play.
The One Valley Community Foundation does not take a portion of any gifts during Give Big. We only receive gifts made directly to our profile, and we are ineligible to win prizes. To find out more about the Foundation, see page 5.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Anyone and everyone. The minimum donation is $5. Whether you donate $10, or $100, each and
every donation truly matters. Together, as a community, we can make a difference!
WHY SHOULD I GIVE BIG?
Give Big is an opportunity for everyone in our community to support what they care about. It is a special event that encourages a communitywide celebration of giving.
When you give during Give Big:
• Your gift can help your favorite nonprofit win prizes to make your giving go further.
• Your gift may help nonprofits qualify for matching gifts they’ve secured to bolster their fundraising efforts.
• Your gift can help your nonprofit of choice qualify to receive funds from the new Community Fund.
• Each donation during Give Big will help nonprofits better serve our community.
WHAT IF I CAN’T DECIDE WHO TO SUPPORT?
If you are having a hard time choosing a nonprofit, you can give to multiple! You can give to up to 10 nonprofits per online transaction. You can also give to an unlimited number of nonprofits when you give via check.
If you can’t decide or you simply want to support the whole community, consider giving to the new Community Fund. Community Fund donations will be pooled and then split between participating Give Big nonprofits who get support from at least five donors.
HOW DO THE PRIZES WORK?
Online donations made during Give Big may help your favorite organization win prizes! There are 47 prizes being awarded this year totaling $20,000. You can increase your giving by when and how you give!
Visit https://www.givebiggv.org/prizes for the full list of prizes your favorite organizations can win!
ARE GIFTS TAX-DEDUCTIBLE?
All donations are tax-deductible and irrevocable and will be for the unrestricted use of your chosen charity.
HOW MUCH OF MY DONATION GOES TO THE NONPROFIT?
All donations will be paid to the chosen charity. Of your online donation, only 4.5% + $0.30 will be retained by the credit card companies and the platform, GiveGab. You will have the option during checkout to cover those fees. Gifts of check made directly to the nonprofit or through the One Valley Community Foundation will not incur a fee. The One Valley Community Foundation will not receive any portion of the donations or transaction fees.
WHAT IF I CAN’T FIND MY FAVORITE NONPROFIT ON THE WEBSITE?
That means they aren’t participating in Give Big. After Give Big 2023, encourage the nonprofit to contact us (info@ onevalley.org) so it can register for the May 2024 event! In order to participate, the organization must be a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit located in or serving Gallatin County.
About the One Valley Community Foundation
At One Valley Community Foundation, we believe the spirit of philanthropy unites us all for the common good. During challenging times, we serve as a bridge between people and communities. We strive to promote and support strong communities where all residents have the opportunity to thrive. We do this by connecting people who want to make a difference with the causes that matter most to them, strengthening nonprofit organizations whose mission-driven work has never been more critical, and bringing people together to address the priorities and concerns of Gallatin County because together we are all stronger.
Building on trust, commitment, and a belief that philanthropy is a unifying force, One Valley Community Foundation is set to expand in new and innovative ways. However, just as in years past, we can’t grow into that vision alone. Together with every individual, family, corporation, or nonprofit partner who believes in the power of collective giving, we seek to:
Continue partnering with more donors to establish funds on their behalf that support the charitable causes and organizations they value most.
• Today, One Valley Community Foundation invests and manages 54 distinct funds on behalf of 42 generous philanthropists, with total assets of $31 million.
• In 2022 alone, those funds helped to provide $2,744,757 in transformative and essential support to 264 nonprofit organizations.
• Looking ahead, we seek to deepen our relationships with existing fund holders by providing them with our unique philanthropic advising and giving plans.
Strengthen our nonprofit communities’ capacity by providing exceptional training and leadership development programs to help essential organizations better deliver on their inspiring missions.
• Our well-attended programs like Board Launch, Nonprofit Cafe, Dare to Lead, and Financial Bootcamp have a history of helping hard-working nonprofit leaders and volunteers weather the unpredictability their organizations might encounter by learning from, listening to, and valuing their perspectives. We can help our partners become even more resilient organizations.
• We know that by continuing to expand what works well, we can continue to ensure the nonprofit sector remains healthy and vibrant.
Multiply the impact of grassroots generosity for the benefit of a growing number of local organizations.
• Each year, One Valley Community Foundation’s Give Big Gallatin Valley inspires thousands of donors to make contributions – large and small – to the causes that inspire them. Hundreds of critical nonprofit organizations benefit from the unprecedented focus on collective giving.
• In 2022, Give Big brought 6,120 generous donors together to raise a record-breaking $2,872,174 in just 24 hours for 230 local nonprofits.
• Our sponsors and donors allow Give Big Gallatin Valley to cultivate first-time donors, strengthen relationships with long-standing supporters, and bolster the sustainability of the organizations making a difference across our region all year long.
to cultivate first-time donors, strengthen relationships
Address our communities’ most pressing housing challenges by convening critical conversations, engaging diverse stakeholders, and forming the Regional Housing Coalition.
• One Valley Community Foundation proudly activated the Regional Housing Coalition (RHC) in late 2022. Community voices and data told us that housing availability and affordability are the top concern among Gallatin County community members. We’ve listened and are now leaning in as an even-handed convener.
• RHC is an ongoing project of One Valley Community Foundation, convening diverse partners to coordinate and activate solutions to housing affordability and availability needs in Gallatin County.
We are proud of the successes we’ve realized and the ways in which we’ve demonstrated our ability to learn and grow. At the same time, we know that more can and should be done to foster philanthropy, champion positive social impact, and enhance the inherent vibrancy throughout our region. The future for One Valley Community Foundation is exceptionally bright, and we welcome new partners and supporters in helping us advance our mission.
If you are a donor, a nonprofit leader, a government official, or a passionate community member – you are part of One Valley.
