O H A D I F O Y T I S R E V I N U HEAD COACH JOHN MEANS John Means took over the head golf coaching position at Idaho for the 2010-11 season and has continued to elevate the Vandal program. Means' coaching career began at the U.S. Military Academy where his teams won 11 conference titles in 11 years. He further proved himself at the University of Minnesota, where, in just three seasons, he led the Golden Gophers to the NCAA Championship Tournament. That started a run of eight successive NCAA appearances by the Golden Gophers and eight successive seasons ranked in the top 20. His experience in building a winning golf program at a school with winter weather made him the choice of the search committee. Means said he likes the challenge of golf in a four-season climate. "There is an opportunity at Idaho to do something that has never been done before - compete for a national championship from the snowy country," Means said. “We can do things to shake up the world of golf."

THIRD SEASON UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY

Means left college golf in 2002 to start his own golf teaching center. He was the Director of Golf and Consultant for the Mulligan Masters Golf Learning Center in Lake Elmo, Minn., for the past four years. He doubled as the coach of the Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's team during that time and, as he had in the past, led the Blugolds to four NCAA tournaments. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and his master's degree from Colorado State University.

MEN’S GOLF 2012-1 3

In October, the University of Idaho men's golf team traveled to El Paso, Texas for a tournament - and wound up receiving a lot more. The Vandals had the opportunity to participate in a Wounded Warriors clinic. The team worked with Staff Sergeant Rodriquez, who was wounded in Afghanistan. In addition to meeting the 30 Wounded Warriors, the team was addressed by Fort Bliss commander General Wayne Grigsby Jr. The Vandals went on to win the tournament behind the medalist effort of Gordon Webb.
