Well, summer’s here at last and we can enjoy the long summer holidays. In these pages you’ll find plenty to keep your family occupied and happy. Since the last issue, the events section of the website has been redesigned. You can now search the whole country from my website, so it’s much easier and more convenient if you want to go further afield. I continually add events as I find out about them, even if it’s too late to be printed in the magazine, so it’s worth keeping an eye on it.

We’ve got three great competitions in this issue – one for family tickets to the wonderful Birdworld at Farnham, one for a fantastic family photoshoot and one for a week’s camping holiday at Watercress Lodges and Campsite! Explore Surrey & Hampshire’s Canal From the Hampshire hills to the Locks in Surrey, the Basingstoke Canal is teeming with wildlife. Its old bridges, traditional pubs and brightly coloured canal boats hold a surprise around every corner. The Canal Visitor Centre at Mytchett is a fantastic place to start your journey. Narrowboats, Pedleos and Canoes can be hired for the day. Public cruises are offered during school holidays. It’s also a great place to bring the family for a picnic or you can enjoy a tasty snack in the tearoom and let the children go wild in our fantastic play area. Camping is available to those who wish to spend more time to enjoy the Basingstoke Canal. We run events throughout the summer holidays when you can come and hire Pond dipping packs and see what is lurking in our pond. Or have a go at completing our summer trail. Don’t forget that we start taking bookings for our famous Santa Cruises from the 29th September.
