You have to decide which leg is your strongest leg, and that will be the one closest to the starting line. Typically if you are right handed, your left leg is your strongest, and if you are left handed your right leg is the strongest. (For explaining purposes, I will use my left leg as my strong leg)

Start at the edge of the starting line, and count back three of your feet and place the block down on the left side of the block holder.

Come back to the starting line and count two of your feet on the right side of the block holder and place your second block down.

When your blocks are set to your standards, you have to make sure that your hands do not go over the starting line. They should be at the back edge on the line. Your shoulders should be relaxed, and have a slight lean over the starting line.

Next, you have to know the commands of the starting official, and what to do when he gives the three command start. After setting up your blocks, you should always stand in front of them to let the official know that you are ready to go.

When he says “On your mark” you will get into your blocks, placing your back (right) leg in first, then your front (left) leg, making sure your feet are even on each block. When this is set, get into your blocks and make sure that you are not too cramped up or too far from the starting line. You should be able to sit up straight and be comfortable without the feeling of falling over.

When he says “Set” you will raise up in your blocks, making sure you stay completely still until the gun goes off for the third and final command.
