How Do You Counteract The Effects Of Sitting All Day?

Content Get Up Every Hour Do Some Stretching Be Active When You Are Not Working Bottom Line

Introduction We humans have grown unnecessarily sedentary. You who are reading this are probably sitting somewhere. Sitting has become so common to us that we barely even notice. But if you think of it, we sit 9 hours a day for work, add in a couple of hours spent in front of the TV, an hour at the dinner table, then to go online on social media. 8 hours of lying down when you sleep. Multiply those hours by 7 and then by 30 and you will eventually have an idea how much we sit in a year. If you are like most of us and have not read the newest studies you may not know that sitting too much is not good for us. But there are numerous ways of curing this sickness and that is exactly why I am writing this.

Get Up Every Hour Sitting for too long can weaken our muscles. That is because sitting deactivates some of the muscles for that time and if you continue doing that for too long, those muscles can ultimately get stiff. Take for example our hip muscles. They get stiff if you sit for a long time. But you can cure this by getting up and walking after every hour. This activates your glute muscles and stretches the front muscles of the hip. That is how it counteracts the effects of harmful sitting. So get up and take a stroll even when you have no reason to. I am sure you will have a pretty good reason after reading this.

Do Some Stretching What do you normally do after a long day out? You hit the bed! That is the second biggest mistake we do after sitting for hours a day. What we should be doing is to stretch out the body to let the stiffness out to relax muscles. The hip flex exercises are the best workout you can do for stretching. It activates your quadriceps and back hip muscles. Just do it for 30 seconds or more until you feel like your muscles have relaxed.

Be Active When You Are Not Working Physical activity is necessary for the human body. Getting up after an hour and taking a walk may help you lessen the strain on your muscles but there is no better alternative to strengthen those muscles than a regular exercise. So don’t shy away from hitting the gym. Get up early in the morning and go jogging. If you can, hit the gym after work. If you can’t do it every day, schedule at least two days a week for proper exercise. Do a thirty-minute moderate workout to stay in shape. If you are consistent, you will start noticing the difference.
