A PROPOSAL FOR A MIXED-USE, MIXED-INCOME RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT IN EAST BROOKLYN
Fall 2015 | Prof. Angie Co | New York, NY Designed and produced in collaboration with Denise Lee Responding to the issue of the dwindling stock of affordable housing in NYC, our studio was tasked with developing mixeduse affordable housing developments in the town of East New York in Brooklyn. Using the planning department’s newly released RFP as a guideline, our projects revolved around revitalizing Livonia Avenue in East New York by adding new affordable and market-rate housing units supplemented by the addition of much needed commercial and community-use programs at the ground level. Dealing with an elevated rail running along Livonia Avenue, our concept revolved around creating an intimate neighborhood of towers and parks, shielded from the noise of the trains by orienting the shear walls towards the rail. Within the apartment units, the concept was to create dynamic and flexible apartments that could be easily transformed to fit the changing needs of each tenant. In order to achieve this, we developed a system of moveable walls deployed in a grid system calibrated to the specific functions of each space.

A PROPOSAL FOR A MEGA-STRUCTURE GREENHOUSE IN LONDON’S SOUTHBANK
Spring 2015 | SU Abroad | London, UK Designed in collaboration with Emmett Walker, Maxwell Baum, Tiffany Pao and Jacob Granoff
Glass
Upon analyzing the development in London’s Southbank region, we were intrigued by the divide that exists between the low-density historic neighborhoods south of Gabriel’s Wharf and the rapid high-density development occuring in Blackfriars. In this junction between low and high-density development, we decided to create a public “third-space” juxtaposing the historic greenhouse typology prevalent in London.

AXON OVERVIEW
EXPLODED STRUCTURE
Drawing inspiration from Paxton’s Crystal Palace and Cedric Price’s Fun Palace, the project proposes the creation of a mega-structure integrating everything from multi-level public parkspace to large-scale urban agriculture in the heart of London’s Southbank region. Divided into five distinct zones, (refer to Axon Overview) the project spans from the riverfront to Southwark station with an elevated public pathway interconnecting each zone. While we each focused on different zones within the overall project, my portion focused on the integration of large-scale agriculture and the way in which the implementation of the mega-structure alters its context.

A PROPOSAL FOR A MIXED-USE OFFICE BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN DETROIT
Spring 2016 | Prof. Roger Hubeli | Syracuse, NY Designed and produced in collaboration with Shiyun Fan Located in the heart of downtown Detroit, our project reimagines the site formerly occupied by the famous Hudson’s Department Store. Tasked with designing a new mixed use office tower, our project aims to create a celebrated public space bringing much needed community and commercial program to the underserved downtown area. As a means to achieve this, we located the public program beneath the office tower, creating a sculptural plinth upon which the office tower is located. In order to bring light into the public space, we designed the structure to enable light to filter through the perforations in the transfer slab through the two courtyards carved away from the massing above. In an effort to open up the public space, our project reduces all structure and circulation to 6 hybrid mushroom columns that merge structure, vertical circulation and mechanical systems into one cohesive element. A PROPOSAL FOR A BOUTIQUE HOTEL CATALYZING URBAN AGRICULTURE IN SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY
Fall 2015 | Prof. Joe Sisko | Syracuse, NY The goal of this project was to create a boutique hotel themed around the production and sale of locally grown food. The hotel acts as both a billboard for urban agriculture through its use of a performative double skin facade and as a hub for locally sourced food in its use of the lobby space as a year-round indoor farmers market set in the heart of downtown Saratoga Springs.

One of the main aspects of this project is the implementation of a double skin performative facade, utilizing a vertical hydroponic system to cultivate produce year-round. Based off of ARUP Group’s VIG system, the facade is calculated to produce approximately 68 tons of fresh produce annually, creating an excess of produce which is then distributed to the public through the ground floor marketplace. Through its production of food and its marketspace, this project strives to create a centralized hub for the sale of locally grown food in downtown Saratoga Springs.

A PROPOSAL FOR A TRANSMEDIA CINEMATHEQUE IN DOWNTOWN SYRACUSE, NY
Spring 2014 | Prof. Jonathan Louie | Syracuse, NY The goal of this short project was to design a combined transmedia and cinematheque space in downtown Syracuse incorporating classrooms, theater space and film production studios. The objective of the project was to use a system of aggregation as a formal logic to create programmable space. The building is formed by the rotation of cubes within a 120 x 120ft grid in both plan and section, with courtyards occupying the negative space. N-S SECTION THROUGH CLASSROOMS AND GALLERY SPACE

ROBBINS ARCHITECTURE ASSISTED IN DESIGN DEVELOPMENT AND PRESENTATION DRAWINGS FOR A HIGH END RESIDENTIAL PROJECT LOCATED IN HIGHLAND PARK, IL
Summer 2015 | Robbins Architecture | Winnetka, IL As part of the design development team for 21 Lakewood, my focus was on editing plans and interior elevations, developing multiple interior schemes and creating presentation drawings, later shown to clients. Additionally I was tasked with creating design options, coordinating with vendors and presenting multiple schemes for the great room. The goal of this project was to create a luxury 9,500sqft single family home on Lake Michigan in Highland Park, IL. The house is uniquely sited atop a steep bluff sloping into a private beach alongside the lakefront. In addition to working on the design team for 21 Lakewood I also worked on creating presentation drawings for several of the firms other residential projects. 65 LAKEWOOD GROUND FLOOR PLAN

As an intern at SmithGroupJJR, I mainly worked on 3D visualization for various projects in the DC area, from a reskinning project for an office building on K-Street, to VR presentation renderings for a new hotel development presented to attendees at the Design DC conference held at the end of August. In addition to 3D visualization, I also worked on site analysis and building-use diagrams as part of a nationwide building use study. Another project I had the opportunity of working on was producing an as-built drawing set for the renovations to the Catholic University of America, visiting the site and updating the drawing set to reflect the RFIs and ASKs submitted during the CA phase.
