INTEGRATE SPRING ‘17 ACADEMIC (3-person Group Project) How can the rooftop of a strip mall integrate nature, resources, and people to help the community meet more than their basic needs? > Umbrella Shell Roof - unique, parametric, captures water, guides attention outward > Curved Glulam Beams - natural material, integrates structure with the trees in the park > Programming - cooperative model and “sharing economy” provides an alternative and complements strip mall stores

''We try to ''build community,'' not realizing that mere intention is not enough when separation is built into the very social and physical infrastructure of our society."

LIBRARY GREEN SPRING ‘16

ACADEMIC

How can a library draw people in, create a connection with nature, and create something unique within design parameters? > Indoor/Outdoor - creates a large indoor public “green” space > Board Formed Concrete connection with a natural material while expressing solidity and timelessness > Design Parameters - met client’s needs in unique/unexpected way > Programming - synergistic relationship with adjacent senior living

ACADEMIC

How can you design a 12-bedroom house on a small urban lot that can convert between one and two units and uses engineered wood products? > Indoor Pine Tree - references CLT source, encourages gathering > Angled Walls - encourages gathering, highlights CLT > Resource Use - manufacturing dimensions used, ocuts saved > Shou Sugi Ban - charred wood siding for the exterior

ACADEMIC/ REAL CLIENT

How can an organic farm and education center in Kenya become a catalyst for food and shelter resiliency? > Earth Bags - uses on-site material, unskilled labor > Curved Buildings - directs wind for cooling, easier to construct, fits contoured landscape > Integrated Site Design - farm and buidings constructed and function synergistically > Parametric Model - parametric model allows many iterations and exibility for the client

Interconnected

Challenging linear, isolated thinking and diagramming in order to find holistic, integrated, and synergistic solutions to complex, multi-faceted problems.

Grasshopper allowed me to rapidly test iterations while maintaining the relationship between the cut (contoured landscape) and the “fill (Earthbag buildings).

AGORAPHOBIA SPRING ‘15

ACADEMIC/ PUBLICATION

How can you create an architectural intervention appropriate for the Nebraska Sandhills that includes a recreational component? > Dynamic - like the Sandhills, the experience changes over time > Untouched - the intervention leaves the Sandhills undisturbed > Stargazing/Reflection - a recreation exploiting the uniquely vast and pollution-free sandhills > Balance - solitary relaxation as an antidote to fast-paced urban life

2016 PDC STUDENT CHALLENGE 48-hour design of an outpatient surgery center. Completed by an interdisciplinary four person team from four dierent universities.

EARTHSHIP VOLUNTEERING Earthships are completely o-grid homes made largely with recycled materials and requiring minimal skilled labor. I volunteered with the founder - Architect Michael Reynolds.
