Chapter 1

Introduction English - The International Language About one hundred years ago many educated people learned and spoke French when they met people from other countries. Today most people speak English when they meet foreigners. It has become the new international language. Why is this? There are many reasons why English has become so popular. 1. The first and foremost reason is “British Empire. The British Empire comprised the dominions, colonies, protectorates, mandates and other territories ruled or administered by the United Kingdom. It originated with the overseas possessions and trading posts established by England between the late 16th and early 18th centuries. At its height, it was the largest empire in history and, for over a century, was the foremost global power. By 1922 the British Empire held sway over about 458 million people, one-fifth of the world's population at the time, and covered more

than 13,000,000 sq mi (33,670,000 km2), almost a quarter of the Earth's total land area. As a result, its political, legal, linguistic (English Language) and cultural legacy is widespread. At the peak of its power, the phrase "the empire on which the sun never sets" was often used to describe the British Empire, because its expanse around the globe meant that the sun was always shining on at least one of its territories.

2. One of them is that English has become the language of business. 3. Another important reason is that popular American culture (like movies, music, and McDonald's) has quickly spread throughout the world. It has brought its language with it. 4. Also English is used in computer and internet.

ENGLISH - THE GLOBAL LANGUAGE As global communication expands throughout the world, so does the need for a global language. A language that is recognized and understood by people everywhere. In many parts of the world that language has been established, English. In most countries around the globe the English language can be found in some form or another, whether it

be an international news broadcast, such as CNN, or a Chicago Bulls tee-shirt. "What centuries of British colonialism and decades of Esperanto couldn’t do, a few years of free trade, MTV, and the Internet has. English dominates international business, politics, and culture more than any other language in human history." (Rohde) For this world to

be truly global, there must be some commonality or ease of communication. "If trade and tourism around the world are going to operate and a global economy function and a global culture flourish, a widely shared, reasonably accessible language is requisite." (Stevenson)

"A global economic and political structure needs a common tongue." (Stevenson) Everyone has their own reasons for the rise of English as the global language. However, there are some common traits between them. Here are just a few samples of what people are saying: "Experts attribute the worldwide spread of English to British colonialism and

American culture, rather than to the inherent qualities of the language...English is dominating the globe today because, when the sun finally set on the British Empire at the end of World War II, the United States emerged as a global

superpower and cultural giant, leading the way in medical research, technological innovation, motion pictures and rock ‘n’ roll." (Rezendes) "In the 17th and 18th centuries, English was the language of the leading colonial nation - Britain. In the 18th and 19th centuries, it was the language of the leader of the industrial revolution - also Britain. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was the language of the leading economic power - the US." (Guardian) "Experts say the simultaneous rise of the US as a military and technological superpower and the receding of the British empire gave many in the world both the desire and option to choose American English." (Campbell) As you can see, there are many reasons associated with the rise of English as a global language. Most people agree that it has something to do with the emergence of the United States as a world superpower. The US has worked hard to reach the level of achievement and cultural clout that it has today, but in no way wishes to wipe out all other world cultures. The important thing to remember is: "A language becomes an international language for one chief reason: the political power of its people - especially their military power." (Guardian)

It is estimated that "the number of native English speakers is 300 million to 450 million." (Stevenson) More than one billion people are believed to speak some form of English. (Rohde, Campbell, Guardian, Economist, Rezendes) Although the numbers vary, it is widely accepted that hundreds of

millions of people around the world speak English, whether as a native, second or a foreign language. English, in some form, has become the native or unofficial language of a majority of the countries around the world today. "In 20 to 30 countries around the world, English is merging with native languages to create hybrid Englishes." (Rohde)

It is widely believed that "English is truly the world language." (Stevenson) English seems to be emerging, if it has not already arrived, as a global language. If this were to become official it would reduce the number of mis-translations. It would make communication across cultures much easier. Language may be a cornerstone of culture, but the culture itself would not have to disappear if English were used as a second or third language for the pure purpose of communicating globally. "English is the only language used in international air traffic control and is virtually the only language of a whole range of other activities from scientific research to pop music." (Stevenson) English may not be the best choice, but it is the obvious choice, for an international language. Whether we like it or not, the English language is becoming the global language.

Why English? Learning English is important and non-native English speaking people all over the world decide to study it as a second language. Many countries include English as a second language in their school syllabus and children start learning English at a young age.

However, do you know why learning English is so important? Here are ten good reasons to learn Spoken English. 1. English is the most commonly spoken language in the world. One out of five people can speak or at least understand English! 2. English is the language of science, of aviation, computers, diplomacy, and tourism. Knowing English increases your chances of getting a good job in a

multinational company within your home country or of finding work abroad. 3. English is the official language of 53 countries. That is a lot of people to meet and speak to. 4. English is spoken as a first language by around 400 million people around the world. 5. English is the language of the media industry. If you speak English, you won’t need to rely on translations and subtitles anymore to enjoy your favourite books, songs, films and TV shows. 6. English is also the language of the Internet. Many websites are written in English – you will be able to understand them and to take part in forums and discussions. 7. English is based on a simple alphabet and it is fairly quick and easy to learn compared to other languages. 8. English is not only useful — it gives you a lot of satisfaction. 10. Because it’s fun! By learning English, you will also learn about other cultures. Few experiences will make you grow as a person more than learning the values, habits and way of life in a culture that is different from yours.

A.J.Hoge’s 7 Rules to Spoken English First of all I am not a partner or affiliate with A.J.Hoge or any of his business. Here I am not trying to promote his name or his business. I have chosen his 7 rules to Spoken English because I have never seen anything like this before. This 7 rules are totally awesome and new. It will blow your mind. What we did know before about Spoken English is totally wrong. After finishing the 7 killer rules you will find the right way to learn spoken English, which is more effective, more interactive, 100% working, easy to follow and full of fun. This 7 rules should be the Standard Rules to the world of spoken English. Step 1: Click Here and scroll down the page to “7 Rules” and download all 7 mp3 files (audio) to your device whatever you have – a computer, laptop, mobile, iPhone, iPad, iPod or tablet. Here is another link to download all 7 rules in a single rar file Click Here.

Step 2: Start listening with 1st rule. Listen one rule per day only and repeat listening again and again. This is a 7 rules package for 7 days. Your goal will be to understand the 7 amazing rules from the audio files. Do you have any problem to understand the audio files directly through listening? Well, lots of beginners level people have the same problem. So don’t worry about that. Here is the solution. You can read the transcripts of those 7 rules here Click Here. Though it comes with 7 videos, but at the beginners level please don’t try to understand the English watching those videos. Always use the audio files to listen.

Why? Because when you are only listening, that means your brain is focusing on listening 100%. And when you are watching a video, that means your brain is working 50% on watching and 50% on listening. In this way you are not going to improve your listening skills very quickly. Though video is a great way to improve your skills, but it’s for advanced level learners and not for beginners. We will come to that in Chapter 5.

Chapter 3

Listening Skills – Beginners Warning: Never ever try to start speaking until you have good listening skills Lots of people do the same kind of mistakes, because there are lots of myths out there. Myth 1 : Some people say, you need to start speaking right now. Try to speak in English. They force you to speak in English first. Never do that. In that way you are not going to improve your speaking ability anyhow. Always start with a lot’s of listening and never start with speaking. Myth 2 : In Spoken English, speaking is more important than listening. Speaking is the key to improve your fluency. This is not the case. This is not true. “If you have good listening skills, you don’t need any other kind of skills to speak”. Without any hesitation you shall be able to start speaking automatically.

And this rule is applicable not only for English but also for any other languages you want to learn.

Let’s Begin with Listening Now we know that listening is more important than speaking. We need to start listening to improve our speaking ability. But how and from whom will we start listening? Where will we get native speakers? Those are the big question for non-native people. Non-native people’s main problem is they live in an area or country where their surrounding has no such people who speak in English like a native speaker. Their parents don’t speak in English, their brothers, sisters or cousin, their friends and neighbours, their school fellow or colleagues don’t speak in English. But don’t worry in the era of internet. Here we will use the power of internet to improve our listening as well as speaking ability.

Podcast with Transcript (Easy Method) Audio podcast is a great way to improve your listening skills very quickly. In podcast people use more native languages, easy to understand words unlike academic or literature.

Simply go to any search engine (Google, Yahoo, Bing etc.) and type “podcast with transcript”. You will find lots of results. Download or listen online those audio podcast files in front of the transcript. Repeat one podcast again and again. It will help you to understand the English.

This method is for those people who are unable to understand the English directly from listening.

Podcast without Transcript (Hard Method) And if you have no problem to understand English directly, then you don’t need any transcripts. Simply Click Here and download those mp3 audio files and listen again and again. Also you can download podcast from any other sites, but A.J.Hoge’s podcast series is a great collection, free to download and very motivated.

Chapter 4

Listening Skills – Intermediate Understanding English from audio podcast is quite easy – because easy to understand words are used in podcast. But Stock of Words is necessary to any successful language learner. We need to increase our word power. And we don’t need to memorized thousands of words one by one. No more old, boring, backward methods. We will increase our stock of words through an interesting, easy, enjoyable and fun method that works. Literature is the best choice, because writers, authors, poets use lots of words in novel, short stories, poems, dramas etc. And who don’t like novel or stories?

Audio

Books

with

Text

(Easy

Method) Simple go to any free audio book download site. You will find lots of free public domain audiobooks with ebooks.

Here are some popular websites 1. www.loyalbooks.com (Books Should Be Free) 2. www.openculture.com 3. www.librivox.org 4. www.podiobooks.com 5. www.thoughtaudio.com 6. www.librophile.com 7. www.storynory.com 8. www.learnoutloud.com Go to those above sites and simply choose any category whatever you like. It may be Adventure, Non-fiction, Poetry, Romance, Science fiction, Adults, Comics etc. Pick up a book and download both of it’s audio version (mp3 etc.) and an ebook (pdf, epub, mobi etc.) version. Now play the mp3 and open the ebook at the same time. And start listening the audio book, also see those texts on your computer/mobile screen simultaneously. Repeat the same book again and again. This method will help you to increase your vocabulary (word power) tremendously and naturally. It’s lot more easier and enjoyable than old, traditional, boring memorized method.

Audio Books without Text (Hard Method) This is the next level of your listening skills. If you can understand English directly from an audio file without any help of ebook. Then do it. Listen an audio book again and again without seeing the text.

Chapter 5

Listening Skills – Advanced Congratulations! If you have completed the previous lessons carefully, that means now you are able to understand any kind of English speech from any person, from anywhere around the world, whatever they are – a native speaker or a professional voiceover. But, in real life situation you are not going to listen only. You will see the person standing or sitting in front of you. That means your brain will be involved 50% on watching/seeing and 50% on listening. That’s why you need to practice more advanced task.

Movies

with

Subtitles

(Easy

Method) In this section we will use movies. And not only movie, you can also use your favourite TV shows, news videos, educational videos, documentary films etc. Here I have selected movies, because everyone loves to watch movies

and it will be very entertainable and the most effective method to learn native English.

Get your favourite English movie with English subtitles. Subtitles will help you to understand a scene easily. Repeat watching a movie, even a particular scene again and again.

Movies without Subtitles (Hard Method) This is the last but not least method. This method is very very powerful. Just you need to follow a single task. Watch your favourite movies or whatever videos you have without subtitles over and over again. That’s it. When you will be able to understand everything from a movie without any problems, that means you are now ready to speak. GOOD NEWS.

Chapter 6

Speaking Skills As I mentioned before “If you have good listening skills, you don’t need any other kind of skills to speak.” This is the universal truth and applicable to any languages in the world. So, start speaking. But with whom? Well that’s a good question. Here again we will use the power of internet. And you will be going to love this method. Because we all love online chatting. Yes I am talking about voice chat.

Find an English voice chat room, be a member, choose a partner, make friends and start speaking. Here we will use “Skype” as our speaking platform. Again you can choose any other platform. Skype has some great features so I have chosen this. If you are not familiar with Skype, then it is just a peer to peer free online video chat, voice chat, text chat even file transfer apps. If you have an account on Skype then great, otherwise simply go to www.skype.com download it on your device, create a free account and get your Skype ID. From where we will find partners? Skype has a great feature, that’s why I like Skype very much. It’s called Skype community. Go to community.skype.com and sign in with your Skype ID and password. Community has some basic rules. First read those. According to community rules you can’t share your email ID, Skype ID, phone number etc. directly to the public area. Otherwise community moderator will remove those. If you want to exchange your Skype ID with anyone simply send him/her a Private Message (PM). Now it’s time to find some partners. Go to community main page. Scroll down and select the subcategory Your Community>Language Learning. Here you will find some people who want to speak in English to improve their speaking ability. Choose them from their post, you can reply

their post or you can send them a Private Message (PM). Tell them that you are also interested to speak in English with them. Send your Skype ID via PM and also ask for his/her Skype ID. And wait for their reply. In this way get some ID’s then open your Skype app and send them a connect request. When they will see your request and they accept your request, then you both will become Skype partners.

Congratulations! You have done it. Go ahead. Start speaking. You can do it. Trust me, right now you have the full ability and skills to speak in English fluently. Without any hesitation you can speak naturally with anyone like a native speaker. And here is a request from me. Please share this eBook for free to everyone who need it. Please help those people who really want to increase their speaking ability. Because‌
