Boy Kills World

When Boy (Skarsgard) is a child, he, his mother and sister are chosen for The Culling, an annual event where the rulers of their dystopian city, the Van Der Koy family, gather 12 people from the city and execute them on live television. Boy’s mother and sister are killed, but he is left for dead, having been rendered deaf and mute. A Shaman (Ruhian) finds Boy and nurses him back to health. Years later, an adult Boy is being mentored by Shaman, training to become a fighter so that he may avenge his mother and sister’s deaths at the next Culling.

The Last Stop in Yuma County

At a remote location in Yuma County, Arizona, in the 1970s, a traveling knife salesmen (Cummings) stops at a gas station motel to refuel. The pumps, however, are dry, and the salesmen is forced to await a refueling truck expected to arrive soon, as the next station is over

100 miles away. While he waits at a local diner and acquaints himself with the waitress, Charlotte (Donahue), two bank robbers arrive, on the run from their latest robbery in Buckeye, where they made off with $250,000. While the robbers take Charlotte and the salesman hostage to await the refueling truck or the next passerby with enough fuel in their tank, the salesman and Charlotte plot their own escape.

Hirayama (Yakusho) is a simple man living a simple life, cleaning public toilets for a living in Shibuya, a special ward in the Tokyo Metropolis. When he isn’t working, Hirayama devotes his time to listening to the music in his cassette collection and reading books by William Faulkner, Patricia Highsmith and Aya Koda. Hirayama also possesses a fondness for nature, particularly trees, which he frequently photographs. Seemingly unattached to anyone, Hirayama experiences several encounters with the people around him that cause him to reflect on the ritual of his daily life.
