Cooking, country style: Cheese is king in ‘Trisha’s Southern Kitchen’

Who doesn’t love cheese? It’s just such a rich, flavorful food with so many varieties to enjoy, whether it’s made from the milk of a cow, goat or sheep — or maybe even something more exotic. Even the vegan alternatives are tasty; trust me — give them a try!

Trisha Yearwood, I think, would agree that cheese is one of the greatest foods out there. The country music superstar is as skillful in the kitchen as she is in a recording studio, and her Emmywinning Food Network series

“Trisha’s Southern Kitchen” kicked off its latest season last week and currently airs Saturday mornings.

This week’s episode is all about cheesy goodness. Trisha spends a day with her friend, and together they visit their local cheese shop, where the duo picks out a stunning variety of the good stuff. Once they’re back in Trisha’s kitchen, the magic begins as they transform the cheeses into some absolutely stunning dishes. So what’s on the menu? Well, there’s a classic French onion soup with an eye-opening amount of cheese melted on top that’s served with a mouth-watering goat cheese fondue and roast beef with Camembert paninis with arugula aioli. Cheese isn’t just for appetizers and entrees, either, and the two friends make sure that cheese stars in the dessert course, too, with a stunning cheesy apple skillet pie.

“Trisha’s Southern Kitchen,” which won a Daytime Emmy in 2013 for Outstanding Culinary Program, features the country music legend inviting viewers into her own kitchen so that she can share her love of southern-inspired cooking. In last week’s season premiere, she had her band over before a concert for homemade snacks that included orange barbecue steak kabobs, cornbread and chili bites and a charred lemon ricotta dip. It’s that genuine, down-toearth feel that makes the show what it is; Trisha Yearwood may be a bestselling country artist who’s sold more than 15 million albums, but she still loves nothing more than cooking up her favorite dishes for family and friends.

“Trisha’s Southern Kitchen” airs Saturdays on Food Network.
