Savory secrets: Travel Channel favorite is back on the road

Talk about a 180-degree turn. Adam Richman of “Man v. Food” fame is at it again — but this time he’s headed in the other direction. “Man Finds Food” gets its start Wednesday, July 2, on the Travel Channel.

“Man v. Food” was an audience favorite on the Travel Channel during its three season-run (four if you count its successor, “Man v. Food Nation”). Each episode would find the loveable Richman heading to a different city to check out the hot spots to grab a meal before settling in to tackle a local competitive eating challenge.

This time around, Richman’s headed off the grid. Once again, he’ll be setting out to eat his way across the country, but instead of featuring the most interesting restaurants that cities have to offer, he’ll be going in the opposite direction.

Instead of looking for the most in-your-face meals to be found, he’ll be highlighting some of the hidden gems that every city has tucked away off the beaten path. Some of the most surprising and unique (not to mention tasty!) dishes around are just waiting to be discovered in these eateries that are so hidden that sometimes even locals don’t even know that they’re there. And what would a show about finding food be without highlighting items that don’t even appear on the menu? It’s a well-kept secret that plenty of restaurants have specialties that only customers “in the know” can order, and luckily for us, Adam Richman is most definitely one of those people. Hidden restaurants and secret dishes? The very first episode will find Richman discovering a Los Angeles dive bar that encapsulates them both. After passing through the hidden door that leads inside, he’ll be putting in an order for a monster of a breakfast sandwich that can’t be found on the menu: the infamous Godzilla Destroys Skidrokio.

Of course, Richman being Richman, he’ll be finding his way into the kitchen to watch this beast being prepared. And it’s not his only stop in L.A., either — with three other pit stops planned, it’s going to be a packed premiere episode.

Folks who haven’t seen Richman since his “Man v. Food” days may notice another change in direction for him, too. The once-chubby host has shed a lot of weight lately, and come July 2, this former competitive eater will once again be hitting the road — only this time, his portion sizes may be a bit more reasonable.
