The Brainerd Dispatch TV Week March 5th 2023

It’s been nearly three years now since the reboot of the 1950s L.A. noir series “Perry Mason” aired. Thankfully, fans of the series led by Matthew Rhys (“The Americans”) no longer have to wait: Season 2 premieres Monday, March 6, on HBO. Also returning to the courtroom this season are Juliet Rylance (“The Knick”), Shea Whigham (“Gaslit”), Veronica Falcón (“Why Women Kill”), Eric Lange (“Escape at Dannemora”), Diarra Kilpatrick (“American Koko”) and Justin Kirk (“Weeds”).

“Cheat” - Season 1

Fake it till you make it with the brand-new British game show, “Cheat,” when it makes its debut Wednesday, March 1, on Netflix. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” (2014)

The heroes in a half-shell are back to fight another day in the 2014 live action film adaptation of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” available now on Prime Video. With supervillain Shredder (Tohoru Masamune, “Artificial”) and his Foot Clan maintaining an iron grip on New York City, with everyone from police to politicians in his pocket, a darkness has settled over the Big Apple. Despite advice from their rodent sensei, Splinter (played by Danny Woodburn, “Mirror Mirror,” 2012, and voiced by Tony Shaloub, “Monk”), not to show themselves above ground, mutant turtle brothers Leonardo (played by Pete Ploszek, “Captain Marvel,” 2019, and voiced by Johnny Knoxville, “Jackass: The Movie,” 2002), Michelangelo (Noel Fisher, “Shameless”), Donatello (Jeremy Howard, “Malibu Rescue,” 2019) and Raphael (Alan Ritchson, “Reacher”) can’t stand idly by while evil terrorizes the city. Helped along by intrepid reporter April O’Neil (Megan Fox, “Transformers,” 2007) and her cameraman Vern (Will Arnett, “Arrested Development”), the Turtles set out to save New York from Shredder and his goons. “Crank” (2006)

Keep your heart pumping for Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor’s (“Gamer,” 2009) 2006 crime thriller, “Crank,” available now on Prime. Working for a crime syndicate led by Don “Carlito” Carlos (Carlos Sanz, “Stronger,” 2017), Los Angeles-based hitman Chev Chelios (Jason Statham, “Wrath of Man,” 2021) wakes up the morning after a job to find out he’s been poisoned by a potent and deadly mix of synthetic drugs called “The Beijing Cocktail” for getting in the way of their rivals. With only an hour left to live, Chev must use every trick he has to keep his heart rate up and his adrenaline pumping to stave off the poison, as he searches for an antidote and seeks out revenge. Written and directed by Neveldine and Taylor, the cast of “Crank” is rounded out by Amy Smart (“The Butterfly Effect,” 2004), Jose Pablo Cantillo (“Mayor of Kingstown”), Efren Ramirez (“Eastbound & Down”), Dwight Yoakam (“Sling Blade,” 1996).
