Rossum is not returning for the final season, though, and as difficult as it is for fans to see her go, it will certainly be much harder for the Gallagher family. Lip Gallagher is played by Jeremy Allen White (“After Everything,” 2018), and he epitomizes the “brilliant, but lazy” character trope while remaining one of the most endearingly tragic, lovable members of the family. Ian is the third oldest, wonderfully portrayed by Cameron Monaghan earlier episodes revolved around his

Cutkosky’s (“The Unborn,” ably responsible young adult in military school. Frank’s youngest son, toddler Liam, is played by Christian Isaiah (“Married”), and revealing much about him would be far too much of a spoiler. The Gallagher’s neighbors, Veronica (Shanola Hampton, “#Truth,” 2019) and Kevin (Steve Howey, “Stuber,” 2019), and Ian’s on-again off-again partner, Mickey (Noel Fisher, “The Red Line”), round out the highly dysfunctional cast that you can’t help but fall in love with.

The 10th season of “Shameless” promises more of Frank’s misadventures, Ian’s relationship troubles, Lip’s seemingly doomed attempts at being a better father than his own, and more of Debbie getting into trouble — what it doesn’t promise is a happy ending for the Gallagher family. Viewers might want everything to work out, a happy ending for these long-suffering characters, but in the wise words of Ian Gallagher, “Sometimes we get so wrapped up in getting what we want that we forget to ask ourselves why we wanted it in the first place.”

I think it’s best to face the facts now: the damage Frank’s alcoholism has done to his family is permanent, and a happy ending where the family suddenly finds itself wealthy and happy would undermine everything the show has been thus far: the most realistic depiction of poverty in America ever broadcast, as well as a real look at addiction and illness. I’m extremely interested to find out how the series differs from the British version’s finale, and even more excited for when I can finally binge the entire series in one go without needing to wait for a whole week or more for the next episode. Through everything, and despite each other’s many faults, the Gallaghers love each other; as damaged as they all are, emotionally and mentally, they are one of the most beautiful depictions of what it means to be a family in television history. The end of the series will be bittersweet. The stories of Frank, Fiona, Lip, Ian, Debbie, Carl and Liam have been many years in the making, and their outrageous antics and emotional roller-coaster of a story will be sorely missed. Tune in to the final season of “Shameless,” which premieres Sunday, Nov. 10, on Showtime.

WHAT’S NEW ON AMAZON PRIME:

“The Man in the High Castle” Season 4

What would the world have become had the Allies been defeated in World War II? This series explores that hypothetical world, and Season 4 premieres Friday, Nov. 15. Based on the novel of the same name by Philip K. Dick, this intense drama takes viewers to 1960s America, where the East has been taken over by Nazi Germany and the West is occupied by Imperial Japan. Alexa Davalos (“Clash of the Titans,” 2010) stars as Juliana Crain, who is brought into the covert world of the American Resistance after her sister is killed by the Japanese and she is entrusted with a film that exposes an alternate reality where America and its allies won the war. Later in the series, we learn that there is more than one alternate reality, and that some will stop at nothing to control them all. Rufus Sewell (“Victoria”) and Joel de la Fuente (“Hemlock Grove”) also star as the Resistance’s strongest opposition, the complex Oberguppenführer John Smith (Sewell) of the SS and the conflicted Chief Inspector Kido (de la Fuente) of the Kempetai, respectively. Season 4 is the last installment of this acclaimed series, and showrunners have described the final season as “very epic — very conclusive and very ambiguous.”

WHAT’S NEW ON NETFLIX:

“Klaus”

Christmas comes early on Netflix with the release of this holiday film when it premieres Friday, Nov. 15.

“Klaus” is the story of a postman named Jesper (Jason Schwartzman, “Wine Country,” 2019) who, being the postal academy’s worst student, is stationed in the town of Smeerensburg in the Arctic Ciricle. Smeerensburg is far from friendly, and its locals are perfectly content to live in the “unhappiest place on Earth.” When Jesper discovers the reclusive toy- maker Klaus (J. K. Simmons, “SpiderMan: Far from Home,” 2019) and sets a series of good deeds in motion by offering to deliver Klaus’s toys if he donates them to children, the whole town begins to change. Sure to become a holiday classic, this film is filled with heart and humor.

WHAT’S NEW ON HULU: “Dollface”

On Friday, Nov. 15, Hulu presents this new comedy. The series stars Kat Dennings (“2 Broke Girls”) as Jules, who is trying to rebuild her neglected female friendships after being dumped by her longtime boyfriend. Joining the cast as Jules’ closest (and most neglected) friends are Brenda Song (“Dads”) as Madison, Shay Mitchell (“Pretty Little Liars”) as Stella and Esther Povitsky (“Crazy ExGirlfriend”) as Izzy. This new comedy series will appeal to anyone who has ever lost themselves in a relationship, or known someone who has.

“Veronica Mars” (2014)

On Thursday, Nov. 14, this movie continuation of the popular TV series joins the Hulu lineup. Fans of the series will know Veronica Mars (Kristen Bell, “The Good Place”) to be a cunning teenager from Neptune, California, who began her sleuthing career in high school. The film picks up about 10 years after the show ended, and finds Mars in New York

City with a lucrative job offer at a law firm. When she finds out that her ex-boyfriend, Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring, “iZombie”), has been accused of murder, Mars returns to her hometown to solve the mystery. Serving as a bridge between the Season 3 finale and the 2019 Season 4 premiere, the addition of this film to Hulu’s offerings means you can now watch the entire “Veronica Mars” series from start to finish.

WHAT’S NEW ON DISNEY +

“The Mandalorian”

Star Wars fans can finally get their hands on this new series when it premieres Tuesday, Nov. 12. Set in the aftermath of the Empire’s collapse and long before the emergence of the First Order, this is the story of a lone wolf, a bounty hunter on the edge of the galaxy. Pedro Pascal (“Game of Thrones”) stars as the titular Mandalorian (Mandalorians are beings from the planet Mandalore, the most famous of which is the character Boba Fett), and he’s described his role as “Clint Eastwood-esque.” This won’t be a clear-cut case of good guy versus bad guy, as the Mandalorian resides squarely in gray areas; his combat skills are advanced, but his moral character needs some work. Pascal is joined by Gina Carano (“Deadpool,” 2016), Nick Nolte (“Warrior,” 2011), Giancarlo Esposito (“Breaking Bad”) Carl Weathers (“Chicago Justice”), Ming-Na Wen (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) and more. Even eccentric German director Werner Herzog (“Grizzly Man,” 2005) makes an appearance, and “Thor: Ragnarok” (2017) director Taika Waititi voices the hilarious droid IG-11. It has all the makings of TV greatness, and though Star Wars fans are champing at the bit for this one, you’ll be able to enjoy the series even if you’ve never seen a Star Wars film.

“Lady and the Tramp” (2019) Disney has been on a role of liveaction reboots of their classic films, releasing three (“Dumbo,” “Aladdin” and “The Lion King”) in the past year alone. The latest addition to this list is a remake of the timeless tale “Lady and the Tramp,” premeiring on Disney+ Tuesday, Nov. 12. Tessa Thompson (“Avengers: Endgame,” 2019) and Justin Thereoux (“The Leftovers”) voice the titular characters: Lady, a refined cocker spaniel owned by Jim and Darling, and Tramp, a stray mutt. When Darling has a baby, her aunt comes to help, bringing her two Siamese cats with her. The cats cause chaos in the house, leaving Lady to take the blame, so she runs away thinking she’s been replaced by the baby and ends up running into Tramp. The two embark on adventures, and romance quickly blooms (yes, the classic spaghetti moment is in there). Unlike this year’s “The Lion King,” this live action reboot uses live animals rather than CGI. You won’t want to miss the premiere of “Lady and the Tramp” this Tuesday.
