6 V-Show 67 : BREAK AWAY–ABROAD WAY STORY
Dedicated to the memory of Paul Basa (1963-2021). Thank you for all your years of outstanding musical service to the Field V-Show... BRAVO TO YOU PAUL! Your loving brothers Ray, Mike, and Andrew.
V-Show 67 : BREAK AWAY: ABROAD–WAY STORY 7
Paul Basa was involved with the V-Show since 2009. He started as a trumpet
player in the band and in 2020 he became the Band Leader. When asked about Paul, many people from V-Show would describe him as happy, always smiling and wanting to be connected to the V-Show Family. He was known to enjoy the cast parties. Paul took pride in his craft. He also wanted to give it his best and to ensure the band was doing their best, too. Paul embodied the “spirit” of V-Show. He was dedicated to making sure the show was the Best Show Ever, he went above and beyond what was expected, and he made long-lasting relationships through these years. In March of 2021, Paul Basa was taken from us too soon. Thank you, Paul for being a part of the V-Show Family and sharing your beautiful talent with us. You will be greatly missed.
Always happy, smiling, soft spoken, upbeat and man could he play. Renee and Gerry Sliwicki, A Fall to Remember
Paul was an awesome musician and an even better person. We will always cherish the V-Show memories and how the shows come to life when the music starts playing. Charles and Julie Anne Mathieu, Dot Comedy
He’d go beyond the show to hang out with folks. Paul was proud of the fact that in 11 years he never missed a cast party. You all know that’s pretty damn impressive. I’ll always remember Paul as a kind, loving and funny guy. Mike & Erin Paluch, From Here To Insanity
I decided I would share what Paul said to me after my last V-Show, Granted Where the Road Begins 2013. He said, “Amy, the V-Show is not going to be the same without you. So now it is my turn, “Paul Basa, the V-Show is not going to be the same without you. Amy and Rob Zima, Granted Where the Road Begins
Paul was always smiling and being a fun, happy positive person. We were always impressed that he would do the V-Show and even go to the parties. He just seemed content and happy to be there. I was always amazed that such a talented musician seemed so genuinely happy to be a part of our shows! Laura and Rocky Daehler and Sally and Tim Maurey, Queen Of Diamonds

Paul entered into the V-Show with no ulterior motive, only to give and contribute to the well being of our children. He had no children or family in the school. There was no exorbitant pay. It was purely kindness. I will be forever touched by the love, the life, and happy meetings I’ve had with Paul. The work we’ve done and wanted to do. Chrissy and Chris Hickey, Sync or Swim
His contribution to the V-Show was unbelievable. Hotel Hysteria made record I believe for the number of songs the band played— 17!! And I remember meeting with the band and how delighted that they would play throughout the show in every scene! Lighting up the stage under the “Chicago theatre marquee” was a perfect setting for the band to showcase their talent. Led by Paul’s trumpet playing and leadership Hotel Hysteria was the first show Paul was ‘the lead for the band’ and with Mike’s help made the music come alive! Cheryl Matti Breslin, Hotel Hysteria
The one thing that we will miss was Paul’s wonderful smile. We will never forget his talented gift that he brought every night. Paul was and will always be our true ‘Spectacle.’ May his memory be everlasting. Matt and Liz Ahrens and Angelo and Georgia Demeros, Corporate Spectacle
In our 6 years in the Field School V-Show, Paul Basa was an integral part of what made the show so amazing. He and his brothers brought their incredible musical talent, but what we will remember most clearly was Paul’s smile and words of encouragement. Even when we struggled onstage to remember lines or follow the dances, he was there to cheer us on. His positive attitude is something the world needs more of, and he will be dearly missed. Susan and Todd Smith, Hillary and Scott Larson, Live Studio Nonsense
Paul was an extremely talented musician who was truly dedicated to the V-Show. He brought to the V-Show a special touch that will not be forgotten. You could always count on Paul for his encouragement and a smile. Paul knew how important it was for us to make the first show in the MPR remarkable; and he did just that. Little did we know at the time, how very special he made our show being his last V-Show performance. Paul was a class act and will always hold a special place in our hearts. Thanks for the memories, Paul. Victor Lobo, Sara McFadden, Tom and Tracy Fragassi, Camp Gunnarockya
Welcome to V-Show 67…it’s a little different than in the past. V-Show has been a long-standing fundraiser within the Field School community. Not even a global pandemic can stop these dedicated parents from putting together and performing the Best Show Ever! When we were asked to produce, in April of 2020, we knew that there might be some challenges. This year we had to ask our cast and crew to go above and beyond like never before, all for V-Show and the school. We would like to take this time to thank everyone for working as hard as they did on V-Show 67! We also would like to take this time to apologize in advance if we forget to mention anyone in specific…so many people have helped indirectly in so many ways this year! We appreciate each and every one of you, but hey, we forget stuff. Our Directors, Keith Henneman and Gretchen Sperry, along with their Assistant Director, Sujit Janardhan did an amazing job conducting rehearsals via Zoom, developing a shoot schedule to ensure safety (and keeping on time with that schedule!), and learning how to set up shots differently for the cameras versus the stage. Our Producer Assistants, Christine Lennox Mendez and Garrick Bunting became an extension of us as they helped keep the production running smoothly. They have done everything and anything to help keep this production moving forward from getting coffee for the crew to being a clap board operator to helping plan events. Thank you for all your support and time! The process of the show started on April 23, 2020 with our powerhouse Script Team, led by Chrissy Hickey. They developed a show which they knew might need to be changed to a screenplay and might need to accommodate for the pandemic. They wrote a show which highlighted some of the reality that was playing out while being sensitive to the unknown and how the pandemic might affect people. The Music Team, led by Chris Hickey also had to adapt this year. They were asked to move the story forward with their songs and lyrics. We would also like to thank Rekha Vij, Music Coordinator, for her hard work in mixing the vocals and the band's instrumental tracks together. Dance Team, led by Denise Schliesmann was asked to create music videos…what?!?! And both teams did an awesome job. 10 V-Show 67 : BREAK AWAY–ABROAD WAY STORY
We would not have been able to have done this show without our Tech Team. Jeff Meyers was instrumental in securing and setting up the equipment that was needed to film (over $100,000 worth). It is not possible to put into words, no less overstated how much this meant to us. Mike Staszel, Tech Lead did an awesome job making sure there were enough people on deck at all times throughout the filming process to help with boom mics, lighting, and recording. Thank you to our Set Team, led by Bryan Mercado. The team built the juice bar from Bryan’s drawings and we all learned the beauty of the kreg jig. The team did an amazing job in trying to figure out the dimensions needed of pieces as they would need to work for the cameras. We appreciate all the hard work you all did in creating a beautiful set for the show. We would also like to take this time to thank V-Show 66 for the purchase of the incredible Tech Deck. Another thank you for earmarking funds from their production to be used for the production of V-Show 67. This has allowed for us to bring to you Break Away–Abroad Way Story, the First V-Show Movie Ever! Thank you to our Past Producers and Alumni for all of your support during this year. Kathy Hanson has done a wonderful job in keeping the Alumni up to date with all the different events that we threw out there this year. We would also like to thank Clare English in her work converting V-Show History to newer technology which has allowed for us to share more about the V-Show Family, of which we are so proud to be a part of. We are ever grateful to Amy and Rob Zima (Producers of Granted V-Show 59) for connecting us with their son Hayden Zima and his friend Aidan Gentile to be our cinematographers and editors. This was a HUGE piece of the puzzle that we were absolutely frantic about until we finally met these two young men. To the Events and Hospitality Committees, we appreciate how you continued to keep our community strong during a time when it was sometimes scary to connect with others. A special shout out to Steve Mascheri who took on the task of making older V-Shows available for viewing online! The V-Show 67 Cast members have been real pros during all of this too. They rehearsed via Zoom and then came to the school where they learned on the spot what they would be doing, how to stand and which camera to look pretty into. We want to give a special thanks to our beloved Mike Wokosin for being a part of V-Show 67. We weren’t ready to say goodbye. With an understanding of the pandemic-related hardships, the Sponsors and Media Team, led by Alice Dobrinsky, approached fundraising efforts with sensitivity to our business community. We are grateful to our repeat Premium Sponsors and generous donors from the Field family and community who continue to give and support Field School. Cassandra Kulwin did a great job with our social media in between getting married and her MSW. We are thankful to Amanda Acevedo and Mark Butchko for sharing their talent to create a beautiful program which highlights our sponsors and our teams. Thank you to Superintendent Dr. Eric Olson and Principal Mrs. Courtney Goodman for all of their support and working collaboratively with us during this year of many unknowns. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the PTO Board for their support. Lastly but certainly not least, we would like to thank our children—Olivia, Casey, and Kayla. While going through a global pandemic our children were patient and understanding that the show must go on! A year ago, we had the honor of being asked to produce V-Show 67. We really had no idea what we were in for. Thank you for having faith that we could pull this off! We had a blast.

WE’VE GOT A DREAM We’re annoying yet amusing Our shows can be confusing And lets not even mention this endeavor
Cuz like everybody else I’ve got a dream I just want to quit and be a stylist
But despite the weird cliches And the dancing that takes days We always try to make the best show ever Can’t you see us on the stage dancing crazy Costumes that come out from who knows where.... Yes we wish to seem exciting For songs that are enticing (brief pause)
Wanna do interior design
Thank you ‘Cause way down deep inside We’ve got a dream We’ve got a dream We’ve got a dream See we’re not quite as annoying as we seem Though we like our names in lights We do shows with men in tights Like everybody else We’ve got a dream I’ve got a mask and singing voice And a mask I wear by choice But lets not even mention my complextion But despite my fancy cape And the fact I stay up late I really want to make a love connection Can’t you see me with a special little lady Rowing in a rowboat under France Though I’m not too much to look at I’m a singer, and that’s that! ‘Cause way down deep inside I’ve got a dream I’ve got a dream (he’s got a dream) I’ve got a dream (he’s got a dream) And I know one day my moves will make them scream Though my face leaves people queasy I don’t mind if they’re uneasy
So I’m into mime And my cupcakes are sublime I write books, lots of books This is meow I like to look I’m happy to do it cuz its for the kids I have dreams like you, no really Just much more silly willy I’m really just the same as every body In a castle that is chic In a dress that’s magnifique And living on an island warm and sunny I’ve got a dream (she’s got a dream) I’ve got a dream (she’s got a dream To prove that I am more fun than I seem I’m so glad I left my desk This island’s picturesque Like all you lovely folks I’ve got a dream We’ve got a dream They’ve got a dream, we’ve got a dream So our differences ain’t really that extreme (We’re one big team) Our goals are unrealistic But forever optimistic ‘Cause way down deep inside We’ve got a dream I’ve got a dream I’ve got a dream I’ve got a dream I’ve got a dream I’ve got a dream I’ve got a dream Woo, woo, woo, woo Yes, way down deep inside We’ve got a dream Yeah
