CULTURAL CUBE Location: Balboa Park, San Diego Scale: Small = 20ft x 20ft Program: Cultural public space
the cube design was restricted to building within a 20ft x 20ft cube. the design was derived by deconstructing the geometry of the cube to develop a building grid consisting of diverse patterns. this gave design coherence between plan, elevation, and facade. the architectural relationship between interior and facade specifically creates moments of psychological connection with the environment at different times of day.
cube deconstruction ideology | fragmenting the cube to reveal internal geometric order of various scales produced a large variety of geometric possibilities breaking the rigidity of the cube.

[site] the little italy district of san diego has a strong cultural environment. I studied how the public engages with the urban edge condition to understand the success of the area. the design is transformable in order to act as a programmatic and public catalyse to give users a future space for their personal wants. the floors can open or close, the ground floor has a hydraulic stage, and the facade opens and closes. this spatial transformation can accept diverse programs (market, art events, museum, public park, restaurant) at different times of the day, week, and month. This design has the potential to adapt a new cultural identity over time by configuring space to evolve with the artistic culture of san diego.

AVANT GARDE MUSIC CITY Location: Broadway & harbour dr. San Diego Scale: Extra Large = 600ft x 800ft Program: Concert hall (2,000 seats), Amphitheatre, Foot, Retail, 3 parking typologies, Nightclub, & Music space (200 seats)
the design goes beyond the ordinary concert hall. re-invisioning parking with spatial variation which generates interesting public spaces. the vertical columns vary in width from 3ft to 15ft so each column is unique and each layer of parking has its own identity. the parking infrastructure resembles the density scales of an entire city, from popular to hidden, and dark enclosed spaces to light and open. all types of music have a specific space in time which best suits the atmosphere & acoustics of the sound. this music city gives diverse music styles the perfect place to perform

MODULAR SHOE RACK Firmness: The design is built of 1 wood plywood on a square grid geometry. the proportions of the modules allows for a grid structure with square structural stability of the wood.
Commodity: Appropriate spatial accommodation are fulfilled by the designs ability to perform as seating, table, shelving, storage, or shoes. it if a flexible and mobile piece of furniture so the units can be separated or put side by side as one. Delight: The Design has a very simple attractive ap-

Architectural Cinematagraphy The goal of the Competition is to rebuild the façade for the Pushkinsky Cinema (1997) Hall in Moscow, Russia. Fifty years ago, in 1961, the nation's main cinema site, the "palace" for the Moscow International Film Festivals (MIFF) was built at Pushkin Square. "Russia" became the first multiplex wide-screen movie theatre in the USSR. The optimum space-and-planning structure of the building proposed by architects is a logic continuation of the functional and technological purpose of the facility. We generated an invocative technologic solution which will Remake the marred exterior of the hall and bring it to a state befitting its status as a pivotal venue of the Moscow International Film Festival, its position at the center of Russia’s cultural life, and its status as a landmark of Pushkin Square, one of Moscow’s major squares.
1
Color Contrast
Our design identifies the persons dress color and uses the color wheel to find the contrasting color. This color is projected on the walking surface to create the greatest contrast for optimal viewing of the personnel.
2
Movement Tracking
The dynamic undulating surface has sensors which would react in relation to the location and speed of someone walking on the surface. Also the sensors would be able to locate groups of people generating larger deformations in the surface which always remains in front of the walking persons.
3
Surface Performance
The surfaces dynamic performance holds scaled ratios to a person’s speed and dress color. As one increases speed the surface begins to lower in height. If someone slows down till they are at rest, the surface would reach max height generating a colorful backdrop for photographers to take pictures.
4
Facade Projection
The façade performs in relation and with similar properties to the walk able surface. Taking the media and physical data from the people on the walkable surface project directly up on the surface of the building façade. This would generating an abstract live movie of the red carpet event for the public to view from the entire square!

“Perhaps the real truth is that environments such as cities and townscapes cannot actually be designed. By their nature they are transient, evolving through unforeseeable ebbs and flows of culture and commerce.” -Tarek Merlin
“We need a new vision of process, not just product…The world, and our clients, have seen what has been accomplished in other manufacturing fields: ships, airplanes and cars. Higher quality and added scope and features are there, along with lower cost and shorter time to fabricate. The old equilibrium between cost and time no longer holds. The mandate for change has now shifted to architecture. We cannot continue to build architecture at ever higher costs, longer schedules, and lower quality. We must act” - Kieran and Timberlake 2004
