Portland Courtyard Housing
Located on 23rd and Lovejoy, the Portland Courtyard Housing offers community style living in an urban environment. The development offers ten small family dwellings and two large family dwellings. All units open into a semi-private courtyard. Located next to the Lovejoy trolly stop and a short distance from the Pearl District, this community is perfect for active, young families. The corners of the site house bike storage and a small cafe for commuters and those passing by.
The style of design was derived directly from passive solar conditions and rainwater re-use considerations. The extension of ground floor wall doubles as privacy gateway and as roof drainage. The twist in second level plan allows direct and diffuse light to enter the space as well as a personal outdoor veranda.

Lake Pend Orielle, Idaho. This small cabin on the shores of Lake Pend Orielle offers a modern twist on the weekend retreat. Amenities include a small woodstove for heating the 180 sq/ft and sleeping loft. Large East facing windows allow for an unimpeaded view of the lake while utilizing passive heating designs in the morning hours. Thermal massing from use of insulated CMU block helps to maintain a level of comfort during the coldest months. During the summer months sliding glass doors extend the living space out on to the porch. A engaged staircase leads to a rooftop sun deck.
