Florida State (No. 11 AP/No. 12 USA Today Coaches) begins its 67th season of college football on the road at Atlantic Coast Conference newcomer Pitt in the 2013 season opener. The Seminoles and Panthers will usher in a new ACC which expands to 14 teams in 2013 with the addition of Pitt in the Coastal Division and Syracuse in the Atlantic Division.
3
The Seminoles are ranked in the top 15 of preseason polls for the third straight season under head coach Jimbo Fisher, which included preseason top 10 rankings in 2011 and 2012.
12
FSU is coming off its best season since 1999 after going 12-2 and winning the program’s 13th ACC Championship - the first since 2005 - and a BCS Bowl - the first since 1999.
5
Florida State’s win over NIU in the Discover Orange Bowl gave the Seminoles their fifth straight bowl win which is the nation’s longest active streak.
17
FSU is 50-16 all-time in season-openers and 17-10 when opening the season on the road. The Seminoles are opening on the road for the first time since 2007 when they traveled to Clemson.
6
The Seminoles have opened the season with an ACC game 11 times with six of those meetings coming on the road. FSU is 4-2 in ACC road games in the opener. FSU has won 18 consecutive home-openers and not suffered a seasonopening setback at Doak Campbell Stadium since 1974 (Pittsburgh, 9-6).

In six of its last seven ACC contests away from home, Florida State’s defense has held opponents to 20 or less points. Virginia Tech scored 22 points in a 28-22 FSU win last season. FSU held Georgia Tech to 15 points in the 2012 ACC Championship game. Only two ACC opponents (Virginia Tech, Clemson) have scored more than 20 points against the ‘Noles defense in the last 13 conference games.
Both Florida State and Pitt will join forces to fight for a very personal cause for FSU head coach Jimbo Fisher and his family on Monday night. Both schools will each wear a special ‘I Fight Fanconi’ Kidz1stFund decal on the back of their helmets during the game. Jimbo and Candi Fisher’s youngest son Ethan was diagnosed with Fanconi anemia in 2011. The Fisher’s began Kidz1stFund later that fall to raise awareness on the rare blood disease. Pitt head coach Paul Chryst felt especially drawn to help the Fisher’s and Kidz1stFund after the story of 2-year-old Logan Stevenson became national news. The terminally ill boy from western Pennsylvania served as the best man in his parents wedding before passing away on August 6. He was born with Fanconi anemia.

The data transfer speed is much faster than a traditional FTP service allowing very large files to be downloaded in just minutes. The password protected video FTP site will be hosting Monday press conferences with Florida State Football Head Coach Jimbo Fisher and the starting quarterback and a Thursday Jimbo Fisher interview. If you have an interest in creating an account that gives you access to the video weekly, please email Elliott Finebloom (efinebloom@fsu.edu). If you are looking for access just for a particular game week, please email prior to that game to set up a guest account.

Jason Hendricks, the Panthers’ leading tackler in 2012, will need to lead the effort to neutrilize Greene from his safety position if Pittsburgh has a chance at winning its first ACC game.

RED ZONE EFFICIENCY IS AN FSU CALLING CARD One reason the 2012 Florida State offense ranked as the most productive in school history was its efficiency in the red zone. The Seminoles made 71 trips inside their opponents’ 20-yard line last season and converted 65 of those opportunities for a 92 percent efficiency rating, which ranked No. 8 among all NCAA FBS programs. But the Seminoles actual productivity – which they hope a veteran offensive line and two proven backs in 2013 will improve – was even more impressive: • FSU’s 71 red zone visits produced 393 points – an average of 5.5 points each time they reached the opponents’ 20 – which tied for second nationally; • Its 92 percent red zone conversion rate was its best since Jimbo Fisher took over as offensive coordinator in 2007; • More importantly, the ‘Noles converted 50 of those 71 trips into touchdowns – a 70 percent success rate, which also ranks as the best since 2007.

NOTIN’ THE OFFENSE FSU QBS ARE NATION’S YOUNGEST Redshirt sophomore Jacob Coker is the graybeard among Florida State’s four scholarship quarterbacks, which gives the Seminoles the youngest position segment among FBS programs nationally. The ‘Noles are also the least experienced at the position, with Coker’s four appearances last season accounting for the collective playing time of the quarterbacks on the roster. Beyond Coker, the Seminole segment includes Jameis Winston (redshirt freshman), Sean Maguire (redshirt freshman) and John Franklin III (freshman). Here’s where FSU ranks among other FBS teams who are green at the QB position: SCHOOL Florida State Minnesota Iowa FAU Georgia Tech Baylor Utah Virginia
QB EXPERIENCE Redshirt sophomore with four games played is oldest among 4 QBs No QB older than redshirt sophomore; one has 7 career starts No game experience among QBs; one junior and four underclassmen A senior and redshirt junior among five QBs with no experience at FAU No QB older than redshirt sophomore; group has played in 12 games One junior among five QBs who have played in 11 games Five underclassmen, but two have combined to play in 13 games Has 1 sophomore (10 games played) and 4 freshmen QBs on roster
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES FSU entered the 2012 season with limited experience on the offensive line, but no lack of talent. They begin 2013 with one of the most experienced and respected units in the country: • Led by fifth-year senior center and Rimington Award candidate Bryan Stork, with an offense-leading 27 starts under his belt, the Seminoles return four of five starters on the line; • Guards Tre’ Jackson (15 starts) and Josue Matias (15) are joined by left tackle Cameron Erving (14) after they started all 14 games last season; • Bobby Hart will start at right tackle, where he made nine starts in 2011; • Collectively, the group brings 80 career starts into the season opener; • In 2012, FSU opening day starting offensive line had made just 17 career starts – 14 of which belonged to Stork.
Florida State enters the 2013 season-opener at Pittsburgh with redshirt freshman Jameis Winston as the starting quarterback, sophomore Jacob Coker as the back-up and redshirt freshman Sean Maguire third on the depth chart. Collectively they have no collegiate starts and just five combined pass attempts. So where does that put the Seminoles in terms of experience compared to other FBS programs? FBS SCHOOLS WITH ZERO QB STARTS ON ROSTER Baylor California Central Michigan Florida State
Georgia Tech Iowa Louisiana Tech Penn State
Syracuse Texas Tech Virginia
Note: Schools in italics do not have a QB who played in 2012. Florida Atlantic’s 2012 opening day starter played one half before switching positions.
ASPIRING TO HIGH MARKS FROM 2012 By virtually every statistical measuring tool, Florida State enjoyed one of the most outstanding offensive seasons in the country in 2012, including marks that set the bar high for the 2013 team: • The 2012 Seminoles finished 19th nationally in total offense by averaging 470.8 yards per game; • The ‘Noles set a single-season school record with 6,601 yards, which was the ninth-highest total among FBS programs; • With 40 rushing touchdowns on the year, FSU established a new single-season school record; • Of those 40 rushing touchdowns, 34 came in the red zone, which was good for a share of the fifth-highest total among FBS teams; • FSU averaged 39.29 points per game, which ranked 10th nationally; • One of only four FBS programs to average more than 7.0 yards per play, FSU (7.01) trailed only Georgia (7.09), Texas A&M (7.08) and tied Oklahoma State (7.01) for third nationally; • FSU’s 154.01 passing efficiency rate ranked 14th nationally; • Though FSU was 39th nationally in passing offense (264.9 ypg), it ranked sixth among all programs by averaging 8.68 yards per attempt.
‘NOLES NOT ALONE LACKING QB EXPERIENCE WINSTON JOINS VERY SELECT GROUP
When quarterback Jameis Winson takes his first collegiate snap vs. Pittsburgh at Heinz Field it will mark just the third time in 41 years that a freshman has started at quarterback on opening day for Florida State. In fact, Winston will be just the seventh freshman quarterback to start a game at any point in the season for the Seminoles. Winston joins Chris Rix (2001) and Drew Weatherford (2005), who were redshirt freshmen when they made their first career starts on opening day. Recentlygraduated quarterback EJ Manuel was the last freshman (redshirt) to start a game, filling in for injured Christian Ponder at Wake Forest in 2009. Freshmen quarterbacks for the Seminoles have recorded a 5-1 record in their first career starts, with the lone blemish coming when Chip Ferguson – the only true freshman to start – and the ‘Noles lost 35-27 to Miami in 1985.

NOTIN’ THE OFFENSE
By The Numbers 200

The Seminoles have amassed a 23-1 record all-time when rushing for 200 more yards. The ‘Noles have won 23 consecutive games – dating to the Dec. 31, 2007 Music City Bowl setback to Kentucky – when eclipsing 200 yards on the ground. FSU ran for 234 yards in its 31-10 Orange Bowl win over Northern Illinois, marking the eighth time beyond that standard during the 2012 season. Only two Florida State teams – 1987 and 1983 – had more 200-yard rushing games (nine) in a season than the 2012 Seminoles. Led by fifth-year senior center and Rimington Award candidate Bryan Stork, with an offense-leading 27 starts under his belt, the Seminoles return four of five starters on the line. With 16 career touchdowns on just 128 touches, Rashad Greene is averaging one touchdown every eight times he puts his hands on the football through his first two seasons.
GREENE CLOSING IN ON THE SEMINOLE ELITE Junior receiver Rashad Greene has already left an indelible mark on the program, leading the team in receiving each of the past two seasons. With 95 career receptions, good for 1,337 yards and 13 touchdowns, the Albany, Ga., native is on the fast track up the Florida State career receiving lists entering the 2013 season: ■ Greene currently ranks 20th in career TD receptions; ■ Five receptions shy of becoming the 26th member of the 100-reception club; ■ Is 38 yards shy of moving into 25th place on the career receiving yards list.
WHERE GREENE RANKS AFTER TWO YEARS Given Rashad Greene’s impressive two-year totals, it’s only fitting to look at where those numbers rank compared to Florida State’s most productive receivers of all-time after their first two seasons:
Who’s Who After Two
80
Collectively, Florida State’s offensive line brings 80 career starts into the season opener.
30
Senior wide receiver Kenny Shaw joins Rashad Greene as the only other receiver on the roster with at least 30 receptions (34 in ’11, 33 in ’12) in each of the last two seasons.
2006
The last time FSU won a season-opener on the road came in a 13-10 victory at Miami in 2006. FSU’s last season-opener on the road came in 2007 at Clemson, which the Seminoles lost 24-18.
13
James Wilder Jr. scored 13 touchdowns in 2012 - the most by a Seminole since Antone Smith tallied 16 scores in 2008.
92
The Seminoles made 71 trips inside their opponents’ 20-yard line last season and converted 65 of those opportunities for a 92 percent efficiency rating, which ranked No. 8 among all NCAA FBS programs.
7.01 39.3 6
The Seminoles were one of only four FBS programs to average more than 7.0 yards per play in 2012. FSU (7.01) trailed only Georgia (7.09), Texas A&M (7.08) and tied Oklahoma State (7.01) for third nationally.
FSU averaged 39.3 points per game in 2012, which ranked 10th nationally.

GREENE MAKES HIS TOUCHES COUNT When it comes to making the most of his touches, junior Rashad Greene has to be considered one of the most productive players in the nation. With 16 career touchdowns on just 128 touches, he is averaging one touchdown every eight times he puts his hands on the football through two seasons. In 2012 he became the first Seminole since Peter Warrick (1999) to score touchdowns receiving, rushing and by return in a season. GREENE’S CAREER PRODUCTIVITY Category Atts. Yards Avg. WILD & FREE The Seminoles have big plans for the 2013 tailback tandem of James Wilder, Jr. and Devonta Freeman, including playing the backs with contrasting styles together in a formation Wilder has called, “Wild & Free.” Nickname aside, the junior tandem brings quite a bit to the table. Collectively, they enter 2013 with career totals of 2,034 yards and 28 touchdowns. Wilder is just 205 yards shy of joining Freeman as a member of the career 1,000-yard rushing club. Since the 1993 National Championship season the Seminoles have only had two career 1,000-yard rushers on the same roster seven times. SEASON(S) 2011 2004-05 2002 2000 1995-96

WILDER EMERGES AS A FORCE
The 2012 season saw sophomore James Wilder Jr. emerge as one of the premier power backs in the country and a force for FSU’s potent rushing attack, pounding out 635 yards on 110 carries to go along with a team-leading 11 rushing touchdowns. He also contributed 19 receptions for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Among the highlights: • Wilder recorded his first 100-yard game in the opener against Murray State (12-106); • He rushed for two touchdowns in a game four times, including three of the first four games; • The second of two 5-yard TD runs against Clemson came early in the fourth quarter and gave the ‘Noles a 42-31 lead; • Wilder’s two receiving touchdowns came in FSU’s win over Boston College; • Perhaps his most important run of the year was a 7-yard gain on fourth-andone at Virginia Tech, which sustained FSU’s game-winning TD drive with less than a minute to play; • His final two-TD rushing performance came against Georgia Tech in FSU’s ACC Championship game, to earn offensive MVP honors.

DEVONTA TO THE RESCUE
In each of his first two seasons, junior tailback Devonta Freeman stepped in to fill the void when Chris Thompson suffered a season-ending injury. His production over the final eight games in 2011 and final seven in 2012 has been nothing short of sensational: • In 2011, Freeman ran the ball 21 times for 79 yards and one touchdown through the first five games; • Over the final eight games, he amassed 500 yards on 99 carries and scored seven rushing touchdowns; • That stretch began with back-to-back 100-yard games against Duke (19-109) and Maryland (11-100); the first of his career; • In terms of percentage, 86 percent of his team-leading rushing yardage total (579) and 87.5 percent of his touchdowns came after Thompson’s injury at Wake Forest. • In 2012, Freeman was good early – 31 carries for 217 yards and one TD – through the first seven games, but even better from the moment Thompson went down in the first half at Miami in game No. 8; over the final seven games Freeman ran the ball 80 times for 443 yards and seven rushing touchdowns; • That seven game stretch included his third and fourth career 100-yard games, also against Duke (12-104) and Maryland (16-148); • With the added responsibility, he responded with 67 percent of his total rushing yardage and 87.5 percent of his total rushing touchdowns.
FREEMAN CLOSING ON TOP 25 & 10 SPOTS
Junior tailback Devonta Freeman has just 12 starts in 25 games for the Seminoles and is Florida State’s leading active rusher with 1,239 yards and 16 rushing touchdowns. Entering the 2013 season: • The Miami native needs just 29 rushing yards to move past Lee Corso (1,267) into 25th-place on the all-time rushing list; • His 16 career rushing TDs tie him for 14th all-time and are just two shy of tying former teammate Lonnie Pryor for No. 10.

NOTIN’ THE DEFENSE
By The Numbers 3
Florida State’s defense is coming off a season where it was the only team in the country to rank in the top three in pass defense, rush defense and total defense.
1
The Seminoles ranked No. 1 nationally in four key defensive categories in 2012: 88 three-and-out series forced, 3.85 yards per play allowed on defense, 2.75 yards allowed per rush and 161.86 passing yards per game.
27
Senior linebacker Christian Jones and senior cornerback Lamarcus Joyner have each made 27 starts in their careers.
15
Last season’s defense was one of three Florida State defenses to hold the opposition to under 15 points per game (14.7) since 2000. The other seasons include the 2004 team (14.1 ppg) and the 2000 squad (10.2) that was the last Seminole club to make a national title game.
TIMMY JERNIGAN
■ Selected as a candidate for the Rotary Lombardi Award, the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Outland Trophy. ■ A disruptive force at defensive tackle who has 14 career TFL’s, leaving him 10.5 shy of tying former player Neefy Moffett (2005-08) for 20th on the career list. ■ Led all defensive linemen with 46 tackles in 2012, the eighth-highest total on the team despite starting just two of his 13 games played. ■ Shined on a big stage when he picked up the team’s only sack and added a career-best nine tackles in Florida State’s 21-15 win over Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship Game in 2012. ■ Started off his Florida State career on the right foot with Freshman All-America honors from several outlets after leading all interior linemen with 30 tackles.
CHRISTIAN JONES
108 6 17
There are six players on the 2013 defense who recorded at least one interception in 2012.
The Seminoles have 17 shutouts in 66 season openers.
79
The Florida State defense will try to replenish 79 percent of its sack total from a season ago, highlighted by NFL draftees Bjoern Werner, Cornellius Carradine and Brandon Jenkins.
6
Senior cornerback Lamarcus Joyner has six career interceptions. He needs three more INTs this season to reach nine and place him in the Top 20 in school history.
2
Just two teams have placed in the top five nationally over the last two seasons in BOTH rush defense and total defense: Alabama and Florida State.
300
Florida State’s No. 1 ranked pass defense in 2012 did not allow a single 300yard passer. The Noles held opposing quarterbacks to 150 yards or less through the air in nine of their 14 games played.
8
8
Altogether, this year’s group of Florida State defenders has made 108 career starts.
Sophomore cornerback Ronald Darby led the Seminoles in his first season with eight pass break-ups in 2012. He became the first freshman at Florida State to lead the team in PBU’s since former Nole Tony Carter led the 2005 team with 12.
■ Enters 2013 as a candidate for three major awards: the Dick Butkus Award, the Chuck Bednarik Award and the Bronko Nagurski Trophy. ■ Led Florida State with 95 tackles while playing at the weakside linebacker spot in 2012, which was seventh in the ACC. ■ Posted a career-best 14 tackles in last season’s game at NC State and accounted for the Seminoles’ lone defensive touchdown of the season on a scoopand-score at USF. ■ Makes the move to middle linebacker in new defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt’s system. Jones will have seen time at all three linebacker positions since coming to Florida State in 2010. ■ One of Florida State’s legacy players whose father Willie Jones Sr. starred at defensive end from 197578, while his brother Willie Jones Jr. also played for the Noles beginning in 2001.
LAMARCUS JOYNER ■ Named to five different preseason lists (Jim Thorpe, Chuck Bednarik, Bronko Nagurski, Lott Impact Trophy and Paul Hornung) as well as being named an ESPN.com preseason All-American. ■ Has played in every game at Florida State since arriving as a freshman in 2010, a total of 41 games. ■ Has led the Noles in each of the past two seasons in kick returns and kick return yardage, averaging 24.5 yards per return in his career. ■ Returns to the cornerback spot for the first time since his freshman year in 2010. In his first year at safety in 2011 he recorded four interceptions, which tied for fourth in the conference. ■ One of six players in school history to begin his college career with USA Today Defensive Player of the Year accolades, joining Derrick Brooks (1990), Lamont Green (1993), David Warren (1996), Antonio Cromartie (2002) and current player Mario Edwards, Jr. (2011).

NOTIN’ SPECIAL TEAMS
By The Numbers 1

22.7
The Seminoles’ special teams crew of Philip Doumar (long snapper), Cason Beatty (holder for placements) and Roberto Aguayo (kicker) will work together for the first time in a regular season game in Florida State’s season opener against Pittsburgh. Doumar replaces four-year starter Dax Dellenbach, Beatty moves in for the graduated Chris Revell and Aguayo steps into the kicking position for the departed All-American Dustin Hopkins. Of that group, only Doumar has played that position during a regular season game for the Seminoles in his career. Charles Kelly is in his first season as Florida State’s special teams coordinator – a position he had responsibility over twice previously in his career. He was the special teams coordinator at Georgia Tech for two seasons (2006, 9-5, Gator Bowl appearance and 2007, 7-6, Humanitarian Bowl appearance) when he first became an assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets. As Georgia Tech’s special teams coordinator, Kelly coached Durant Brooks to All-American Second Team and All-ACC honors in 2006 and the Yellow Jackets ranked second nationally in net punting. Florida State, which led the ACC in kickoff returns in 2011 and ranked 2nd in 2012, averages 22.7 yards per kickoff return over the last five seasons. The Seminoles ranked sixth nationally in 2011 and 15th nationally in 2012.
7
Florida State ranked seventh in the nation and third in the ACC with a 14.2 yards per punt return average. All three players (Tyler Hunter, 15.8 yppr; Rashad Greene, 15.4 yppr and Kenny Shaw, 12.4 yppr) who handled the bulk on the Seminoles’ punt return chores (36 of 37 returns) are on Florida State’s roster in 2013.
113
The Seminoles’ special teams defense has not allowed a kickoff to be returned for a touchdown in 113 games (more than eight complete seasons). The last kickoff returned for a touchdown against Florida State was by Justin Miller of Clemson on Sept. 25, 2004 – the third game of the 2004 season.
5 154 195
Redshirt senior Philip Doumar, the Seminoles’ starter at the long snapper position, will make his first career start and play in his fifth game against Pittsburgh in Florida State’s opener on September 2. He has executed 12 snaps in his four career games. The Seminoles’ special teams defense has gone 154 games (and nearly 12 full seasons) since it allowed a punt return for a touchdown. The last punt returned for a touchdown against the Seminoles was by Ronnie Hamilton of Duke on Sept. 1, 2001 – the first game of the 2001 season.
ROBERTO AGUAYO
■ Had an outstanding spring which culminated with him going 5-of-6 in field goal attempts in the spring game including two 50-plus yarders (51, 58). ■ Will become the first Seminole kicker not named Dustin Hopkins to attempt a PAT since Graham Gano (now the starting kicker for the Carolina Panthers) against Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl on December 27, 2008. ■ Will become the first Seminole kicker not named to Dustin Hopkins to attempt a field goal since Graham Gano against Florida on Nov. 29, 2008. ■ Will become just the second Seminole kicker not named Dustin Hopkins to line up for a kickoff since Graham Gano against Wisconsin in the Champs Sports Bowl on December 27, 2008.
KENNY SHAW
■ The senior wide receiver will begin the 2013 season as the Seminoles’ primary punt returner. ■ He earned the job at the end of the 2012 season and finished third on the team with eight returns for 99 yards and a 12.4 yards per return average. Shaw recorded all eight of his returns for all 99 of his return yards in the final four games of the 2012 season (against Maryland and Florida) and against Georgia Tech in the Seminoles’ win over the Yellow Jackets in the ACC Championship game.
CASON BEATTY
■ Started all 14 games as a freshman last season after replacing All-American Shawn Powell. ■ Only eight of his 47 punts were returned for a total of 87 yards. ■ 23 of his 47 punts were placed inside the 20-yard line. ■ Downed nine punts inside the 10-yard line. ■ 83 percent of his punts were not returned and 49 percent were downed inside the 20-yard line last season. ■ FSU’s coverage squads only had to make five tackles on the team’s 49 punts as either the punt was out of bounds, downed, fair caught or the receiver ran out of bounds. ■ Was named to the Ray Guy Award Watch List late last season.
Florida State’s kickers have made 195 of the last 196 PAT attempts (.995 percent) in the last 51 games. Dustin Hopkins (now the starting kicker for the Buffalo Bills) missed only one PAT attempt in the final 51 games of his career – a streak that began on Sept. 26, 2009 against USF and ended with the last game of his career on Jan. 1, 2013 in the Orange Bowl against Northern Illinois.
.960
Florida State’s kickers have made .960 percent (595 of 620) of their PAT attempts during the 2000’s. The Seminoles average 45.8 PAT’s made each season.
.971
Florida State’s kickers have made .971 percent (441 of 454) of their PAT attempts since the beginning of the 2003 season (the last 10 seasons).

Head Coach Jimbo Fisher A CLOSER LOOK • Led FSU to its first Bowl Championship Series win since 1999 with a 31-10 victory over Northern Illinois in the Discover Orange Bowl on Jan. 1, 2013 in Miami Gardens, Fla. FSU finished in the top 10 of both the USA Today Coaches (No. 8) and Associated Press (No. 10) polls for the first time since 2003 in the coaches poll and 2000 in the AP poll. • Led FSU to its first Atlantic Coast Conference championship since 2005 with a 21-15 title game victory over Georgia Tech on Dec. 1, 2012 in Charlotte, N.C. The Seminoles have won two ACC Atlantic Division titles in three years and with their 13th conference championship, trail Clemson by one title for the alltime league record. • Has led FSU to its 31st consecutive bowl appearance - the longest active streak in the nation and second all-time to Nebraska’s 35 - and extended its streak of four consecutive bowl victories, which also is the longest active streak in the nation. • With 31 victories, he has collected more than any previous Florida State coach in their first three seasons. FSU’s 51-7 win over Boston College on Oct. 13 was the 25th of his career, which moved him past Don Veller (24) for most wins in his first three seasons. Bobby Bowden registered 23 between 1976 and 1978. • Has reached 31 wins in 41 games, matching the legendary Bowden to reach that standard. • Tied for second all-time amongst Atlantic Coast Conference coaches for career wins in their first three seasons with former Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen (31) and current Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer.
• Highlighted by the first back-to-back sweeps of Miami and Florida since 1998 and 1999, he led the Seminoles to five consecutive wins over their in-state rivals, matching the longest such streak in school history (1977-79). • Under his three-season watch the Seminoles have recorded five shutout victories, including two in 2012. Only two Seminole coaches have recorded more shutout wins in their first three seasons at the helm. Don Veller notched seven shutout wins from 1948 through 1950 and Bill Peterson registered six between 1960 and 1962. • In 2010 he guided FSU to its best home record (6-1) since 1999 and 2000, then matched that mark with a 6-1 record at Doak Campbell Stadium in 2012. The Seminoles are 17-4 defending their home turf over his first three seasons. • Won the most games (10) by a first-year coach in Florida State history and tied for the second most by a rookie coach in ACC history. • Put together back-to-back top five recruiting classes with the 2011 class ranking either first or second nationally by ESPN. com, Scout.com and Rivals.com, and the 2012 class ranking No. 2 by ESPN.com. • Responsible for developing FSU QB Christian Ponder who, as a second-year starter, led the ACC in total offense and passing yards per game in 2009. Ponder capped off his senior season in 2010 by becoming the 12th overall pick of the Minnesota Vikings in the 2011 NFL Draft. • Has already turned out eighteen NFL Draft picks in his first three seasons, including a school-record 11 selections in 2013.
2012. The $500,000 doubled the University’s current research budget for Fanconi anemia.
• Jimbo Fisher and his wife, Candi, announced on Aug. 5, 2011 the creation of a new national fund to fuel the quest for a cure for Fanconi anemia, a very rare life-threatening disorder that afflicts their 8-year-old son, Ethan, and many others. • Money raised through a campaign called “I Fight Fanconi” will support research into Fanconi anemia at the University of Minnesota, one of the leading universities pioneering better ways to treat the disorder, in advance of finding a cure. The campaign will raise research dollars for the Kidz1stFund, established by the Fishers, through the sale of t-shirts, wristbands and other products and through online donations. Less than seven months after creating the fund, Coach Fisher and his wife Candi along with their sons, presented the University of Minnesota’s Amplatz Children’s Hospital with a check for $500,000 for Fanconi anemia research during the first half of a University of Minnesota men’s basketball game on Mar. 3,
• This type of hereditary anemia, primarily a blood disease, can affect all systems in the body and leads to bone marrow failure. For decades, the disorder was thought to be untreatable, but promising advances in medical research have improved the prognosis. To extend their lives, most children suffering from Fanconi anemia will require a stem cell transplant, either bone marrow or cord blood, yet many wait years to find a donor who is a perfect match – or never find one. • Kidz1stFund’s ultimate goal is not a dollar figure. It is a cure, so that Ethan and other kids with Fanconi anemia may lead full, happy lives. Together we can fight FA for the thousands affected by this disease. Through your gift to Kidz1stFund, we can all say “I FIGHT FANCONI.” • The Fishers also are making a widespread appeal for people to join the National Marrow Donor Registry to determine if they are a match for any of the thousands of people whose lives depend on a bone marrow transplant.
