The following list will get you started on the right track to success in your Mary Kay Business. You will want to thoroughly go through your Starter Kit. Here is a list of 10 ACTIONS to get your business up and running as a new Mary Kay Beauty Consultant.

GET PERSONAL AND CUSTOMER TOOLS SET UP:  Go to www.markintouch.com (you will need your consultant #, consultant # is your Mary Kay ID#)  Order Mary Kay business cards at 800.627.9577 or www.mkconnections.com (Business Kit is recommended and starts around $39.99)  Set up your Mary Kay Website. (Only $30 if purchased within 2 months of signing your agreement) www.applications.marykayintouch.com/PWsManager  Sign up for a PROPAY account, www.propay.com ($39.95). Allows you to accept credit cards. Get potential customer’s names and addresses signed up for our Preferred Customer Program (PCP). Go to www.marykayintouch.com and click : My Dashboard > My Customer Tools > Preferred Customer Program.

6. IT’S TIME FOR TRAINING: (See page 5 for numbers to call)  Plan to attend a Weekly Meeting. (see next page for our meeting schedule)  Mary Kay Attire: Dress or Skirt  Weekly Conference Calls. Training is every Monday at 9:30 pm CST.  Listen to the Million Dollar Message Call daily.  Ask to be added to VOXER Training Groups.

5. BECOME FAMILIAR WITH YOUR BUSINESS:  Study the Look Book (in your starter kit) and become familiar with our product line.  Watch the Skincare DVD and watch the Power Party training video links.  The best way to become familiar with the products is to take one of EVERYTHING out of your first order and use it all!  You will get orders immediately just by showing the Book. 4. MAKE A LIST OF 20 WOMEN and their phone numbers (ideas enclosed) who you would like to have as your first customers. Get a 2 pocket folder and List them and take it EVERYWHERE with you. Send me a copy of this list.

3. Think of 5 WOMEN who you would love to have on your team. Send me their names and numbers NOW. When you have 5 people listen to me share about Mary Kay you will win the SHADES OF SHARING.

What, after all, is debt?

Fresh out of the seminary, newly married, and just installed as pastor of my first church, I was earning a little over two hundred dollars a month. When winter approached, I needed coal for the furnace. I went to the coal yard and asked how much coal I would have to buy, how much it would cost and if I could charge it. "About five tons, it will cost you $75, and we will not charge it, Reverend. You'll have to borrow the money somewhere for we don't give credit on coal." And that was that. So, I went to ask for a loan for $75 for the coal. The banker gave me a valuable lesson in economics. "I'll lend you the money for coal this time, but never again. When you borrow money for coal, you are going into debt. The coal will be burned. When it is gone, if you are unable to pay your loan, there is nothing you can sell to pay us back. When you borrow money for coal, or food, or the light bill, or the water bill, you are spending money that is gone forever. This is real debt! If you want to borrow money to buy a car or a house, we will lend you the money. Then you are not going into debt; you are going into the investment business. If you cannot pay off your auto loan, you can sell the car, pay us back what we have coming, and any money you have left is your return on your investment. If you borrow money to buy a store and you borrow money for salable goods to stock the shelves, you are not in debt, you are in business. If you cannot pay off your loan, we sell the store and the goods; if there is money left over after we are repaid, you can have the profit from your investment. If you have no money left over after paying off the loan, you haven't made any money. It's that simple!" It was this advice which was to give me greater courage years later when starting our new church. How long would it take to collect the money from surplus offerings? Perhaps twenty years! So we decided to borrow the money. When finished, the entire development was valued at one million dollars. Nearly $600,000 was borrowed money. Someone said to me about that time, "I hear you folks have a debt of $600,000." I corrected him, "Actually we have no debt. We could sell our property for a million dollars, pay off all mortgages, and have $400,000 in the bank. We don't have a debt. We're worth almost half a million dollars!"

One of the most important aspects of operating a successful business is to develop and maintain a good relationship with your bank. Often, this relationship will be established at the beginning or onset of you forming your business when you apply for a loan.

TYPES OF LOANS The various financial institutions offer different loans with wide ranging terms and interest rates. The types of loans available to Mary Kay are: Personal Line of Credit Using Visa or Master Card System: Through this system you simply borrow funds against your personal line of credit for as long as it is outstanding and repay the amount owed on a daily basis. This is the simplest form of a loan and the easiest one to obtain. It is normally most appropriate for smaller amounts. Personal Loan of Six to Twelve Months Credit: This is a fixed term loan with a fixed repayment Per month and may be used for larger amounts over a time period suitable for the business. Demand Loan: This ia a secured term loan with a fixed repayment per month and may be Used for larger amounts over a time period suitable for the business.

BORROWING GUIDELINES FOR NEW CONSULTANTS Banks are in business to lend money and anyone who has a business need can learn to borrow money. Here are some helpful guidelines to aid you in borrowing money and working with bank people. Know Your Business: As a starting point in your banking discussion, it is wise to provide your Bank Manager with some background information on your Mary Kay business. You may want to include Applause Magazine, business plan, career path brochure, etc. Know Your Situation: Before you talk to a Bank Officer, you must know the reasons why you want the loan, your business plans for the loan along with the method of repayment. Be Specific and Prepared: Summarize your presentation by stating that to accomplish your goals for your Mary Kay business you require a loan (state the amount predetermined through discussions with your Director) for the purchase of your inventory. You should also mention that Mary Kay has a 90% refund policy on product should you discontinue you business. Security and Collateral: It is common practice to provide security belonging to the business or to the borrower. The type of security provided will depend on the circumstances. For instance, you may have personal savings, bonds, term deposits or a car, which can serve as collateral for the loan.
