PARENT GUIDE

FALL 2020

First Day of School is September 16th

Building Relationships Relationships with students is critical to their success in school. A foundation of trust and respect are required for quality learning to occur. Our teachers will be purposeful in getting to know their students and connecting them with their peers.

Social Emotional Learning We are facing the layered impact of the pandemic, school closure, and social unrest. We have prioritized supporting the SEL development of our students. All students in Preschool through 12th grade will have SEL learning opportunities in their schedule.

Depth of Knowledge Students will be engaging in new learning of grade level content standards. Informal and formal assessments will be utilized to assess unfinished learning. Teachers will be accelerating students’ learning. BRANDYWINE SCHOOL DISTRICT

Attendance Elementary ✦Students

are required to be logged on with their classroom teacher Monday through Friday for synchronous (live) instruction: 9:20 am-11:20 am & 1:10 pm-3:10 pm ✦Students

will be considered to be present in the remote learning environment when they are engaged in video conferencing. ✦Work

completion and quality of work submitted will be factored into the student’s grade for the marking period. ✦Teachers

will document attendance on a daily basis in eSchool.

✦Students

are required to complete asynchronous learning activities (e.g., social-emotional learning, specials). ✦Asynchronous

learning activities must be available for students by 8:00 am each day. ✦Students

will be required to complete all of their asynchronous learning activities from the previous week by Monday at 8 am.

Secondary ✦Students

are required to be logged on with their classroom teachers for synchronous (live) learning for each of the courses in their schedule on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

will engage in asynchronous learning activities on Wednesday.

Video Conferencing The Brandywine Student Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use Policy are effect while students participate in video conferencing sessions. Set-up a quiet space for learning Have all necessary supplies and materials ready before class starts Arrive to class on time and ready to learn Turn your camera on

✦Wednesdays

will be designated as an A or B day schedule. Teachers will have learning materials available for students to access by 8:00 am, Wednesday morning. ✦Students

will be required to submit a work product for each of their classes (e.g., exit ticket, discussion board, work submission, etc.). Completion of the work product assigned will be used to document student attendance during asynchronous learning on Wednesdays. ✦Students

will have until 11:59 pm on Wednesday to submit their asynchronous work assignments. Teachers will enter student attendance in eSchool based on work submissions on Thursday mornings. The same definitions and parameters for excused and unexcused absences apply to online and remote learning attendance. All absences will be considered unexcused unless the parent provides written documentation that meets the criteria for an excused absence as defined in the Student Code of Conduct.
