BSD HYBRID LEARNING GUIDE s
Hybrid Learning is unique in that your student will spend some days in person with their teacher and other days learning at home. The key to our hybrid learning model is that students learning at home will also have synchronous, live instruction with their teacher. Here are some tips to help you keep your children engaged, interested, and learning.
Be sure that your student is in attendance on their scheduled in-person learning days. Your student is assigned a Monday/ Tuesday OR Thursday/Friday cohort and should report to school on those days. Teachers are planning lessons and small group activities based on the schedule of which students will be present on any given day. This will allow teachers to best meet the needs of unique learners.
Just like adults, students need a place to work during their at-home learning. Find a quiet place away from distractions. Each student should have a desk or table for the schoolwork that takes place at home. Make sure they have a good upright chair available. Because students will be meeting classmates and teachers on computer meetings, they should be facing any from windows or light sources. Light shining from behind them makes it hard for others online to see them. Gather supplies like chargers, pens, pencils, notebooks, sticky notes, files, and planners to keep near the workstation.
Follow the Hybrid Learning schedule Your student should be logged on to live, synchronous instruction as outlined in their grade cluster schedule. Every Wednesday is an asynchronous, independent learning day. Students have some flexibility with their schedule on these days. Be sure that asynchronous assignments are completed by their due dates.
Check Schoology and Home Access Center. Schoology is where your child’s learning is happening. The Home Access Center is the best place to check your child’s grades. Be familiar with both systems and check to see what and how they are doing in class. Stay in contact with your child’s teacher. Check in to let them know how things are going on your end. Ask your child to explain their work to you or another family member. It’s a great way for kids to practice their skills and it gives you an idea of how they are doing.
Help your Child Stay on Track
Navigate stress and emotions
All Feelings are OK. Students have lessons to support social-emotional learning. Remind your child that anything they are feeling is ok. Help them check in with their feelings and express them. Listen carefully! Remind your child that there are a lot of kids and adults feeling the same way right now. Let your child see you taking time for self care. This shows them how to find something that helps them manage their emotions too.
Spend time: Sometimes the best reward is time spent with you. Even a few minutes reading together or talking about interests can go a long way to ease stress and relax a worried mind.
Let’s work together! BSD is working hard to make sure that each of our students is as successful as possible. We are committed to work with you to make the 2020-2021 school year your child’s best yet!
