Dear Group Tour Planner, Come and Celebrate 100 years of Heritage, Harmony and Hospitality! The City of Branson, Missouri was officially incorporated with 1,200 citizens on April 1st, 1912. Branson’s 100th Birthday is April 1, 2012 and throughout the year many exciting festivals, shows and special events are scheduled to honor this spectacular milestone including an exciting 100-day kick-off starting with the opening of Branson’s NEW Centennial museum on April 1st, located in historic downtown Branson. For more information about the 100 Ways To Celebrate, visit www.Branson100.org. In 2012, Branson offers your groups so much to see and do and our Group Tour & Reunion Planner is designed to provide a wide range of comprehensive information for Tour Operators, Travel Agents, Group Leaders and Reunion Planners to plan the perfect group trip to the Branson/Lakes Area. This planner will assist you in every way – whether you’re a seasoned group travel planner, just planning your very first group trip or something in between. You’ll find that Branson’s area businesses representing shows, attractions, lodgings, shopping, travel packagers, sightseeing and dining are eager to provide you and your group with time-honored Ozarks’ hospitality, world-class entertainment, exceptional value and treasured memories that will last a lifetime! In 2012, The American Bus Association’s Top 100 events in North America include Branson’s Ozark Mountain Christmas and Branson Veteran’s Week. And for over 20 years, Branson has been recognized as the leading group travel destination in America. Our community has received numerous accolades over the years including being named “The Motor Coach Destination of the Decade” by the National Motor Coach Network in Byways magazine In addition, NTA Tour Operators voted Branson as one of their top four 2012 faith-based group travel destinations and for good reason. Some of America’s most popular and beloved Christian artists have performed in Branson throughout the years. And Branson has hosted a wide variety of faith-based meetings, conferences, retreats, concerts and special events for adults as well as youth groups. And it’s no secret many of the area theaters offer Sunday morning non-denominational church services – in fact, some of our Branson entertainers are actually ministers. In 2008, Branson was named a “Top Pick” for Family Reunions by Midwest Living magazine. These positive reviews are bestowed on us because the entire Tri-Lakes region works together year-round to make Branson the perfect destination for all group types. Branson has something for every age group, including student and youth groups, and today Branson is recognized as one of the “fastestgrowing student performance destinations in America” as hundreds of student tour operators, music directors and choir directors plan tours in the springtime to enjoy pre-show performances and backstage tours at many of the area theaters and attractions. Branson is centrally located and whether traveling by car, RV, motor coach or plane, getting to Branson has never been easier. It’s because of the new access roads and an inter-modal facility at the new Springfield-Branson Airport and the new Branson Airport, located just 10 miles from downtown Branson, opened in 2009 and can accommodate visitors like never before! Branson has it all and rest assured the Branson/Lakes Area Convention & Visitors Bureau Leisure Group Sales Staff is here to provide you with all of the resources you need to organize the perfect group trip. Remember, 2012 is the year to come and celebrate in Branson with your special group!

Baldknobbers Jamboree
Since the Baldknobbers Jamboree opened the first show in Branson, and Shepherd of the Hills followed with its outdoor drama, live shows in Branson have been a staple of a vacation to Branson. Today, with more than 100 shows, Branson is truly the Live Music Show Capital of America! Shows in Branson appeal to visitors of all ages, with more than 50 state-of-the-art theaters ranging from intimate 50-seat venues to 2,900-seat indoor theatrical mansions. Morning, afternoon and night, live shows offer a variety of entertainment options for all. The wide range gives everyone something to sing about, and every one of the shows is appropriate and fun for all members of the family. There is music from nearly every era and style performed daily both by rising young entertainers and legendary stars. The many choices of music include pop, country, rock ‘n’ roll, gospel, patriotic, Broadway, western, Big Band, swing, bluegrass, jazz, classical and more. Music made famous by classical composers, cowboy poets, cinematic blockbusters, ’50s heartthrobs, ’60s pop bands, and today’s Top 40 artists can be enjoyed from early morning until late at night in Branson. Several internationally famous performers call Branson home, as do scores of ensemble production shows featuring large casts of singers, dancers and musicians. State-ofthe-art productions, world-class tribute shows, and famous impersonators add to an eclectic mix of entertainment. We like to say that we have “more stars per square foot than anywhere else in the universe!” Entire families of entertainers headline shows in Branson and continue a time-honored tradition pioneered by the Mabe family of the Baldknobbers and the Presley family of Presleys’ Country Jubilee. Comedians are a Branson mainstay, both as headliners and as specialty acts during zany variety shows. Peals of laughter can be heard throughout Branson as hilarious comedy that the whole family can enjoy together tickles the funnybone at Jim
Stafford, Paul Harris and the Hamner Barber shows. International shows broaden the scope of entertainment diversity. These shows inject cultural flavor through their music, dance, acrobatics, costuming and sets. Each April, Silver Dollar City presents World-Fest, bringing in hundreds of performers from around the world. Branson is truly a melting pot of international entertainment with Acrobats of China, The Legend of Kung Fu, Yakov and more. Morning shows such as Buck Trent and Amazing Pets are as popular as ever in Branson, as are dinner shows. From Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stampede to the Circle B Chuckwagon Supper Show, there are several shows that offer a meal, so check with the theater. Multi-million dollar Sight and Sound Theatres, with “Joseph,” and Waltzing Waters shows are presented in unique venues that add to your vacation experience. Student performance groups have a unique opportunity to perform onstage at any one of a number of theaters in Branson. Student group travel planners can make arrangements for their band, choir, show choir or other performance groups to appear in front of a live audience in a pre-show performance. It’s easy to meet the stars in Branson because many of them welcome the opportunity to sign autographs and pose for pictures wherever they are, whether in the lobby after the show or out on the golf course. Most performers live in the area full-time and can often be seen enjoying the same shows and attractions that you do. If you run into a Branson celebrity, feel free to go up and say hello. They’ll be happy to make your acquaintance! Many of the performers will greet groups before or after the show and will make personal visits to the motorcoach, van or bus after the show. Groups are often recognized from the stage at intermission or before the show. All the theaters listed in this guide offer designated motorcoach parking. For a complete list of shows, please visit ExploreBranson.com. Group Rate Min.

Tom Mullica’s one - man tribute show is a living, breathing, giggling, representation of Red Skelton. Tom has eerily and Tom Mullica’s Red Skelton Tribute happily integrated Skelton’s persona with his own. He faithfully captures the gentleness, sweetness and improvisational aspects of Red Skelton, effortlessly becoming the Red - That -Was while simultaneously inventing a Red - That Would - Have - Been.

ten helpful reunion tips Ten The Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau is your ticket to planning a successful reunion in Branson. These 10 tips have been developed to help you in your planning process. Planning your reunion well in advance will save you anxiety in the long run, and give you enough time to take care of all the details involved. An activities timeline can be a helpful tool to ensure all plans are made most effectively. 1. Determine the purpose. Talk to those within the reunion group to determine exactly what you would like to accomplish through the reunion. If the reunion is to bring together people who have not seen each other for 25 years, the activities you plan may be quite different than those for a family whose members see each other yearly. 2. Set a date or range of dates, and determine how many people might be attending. If you have a relatively small number of people involved, this can be done over the phone. If you have a large group to coordinate, it might be a good idea to send out a survey to get input on these considerations: • Time of year • Type of accommodations • Kinds of activities • Budget • Dietary considerations • Other elements important to your group.
The Duttons 58
Dates for the reunion should be confirmed at least a year in advance to allow members to plan for vacation time and save money for the trip. If people are traveling a distance to attend, it is a good idea to take several days for the reunion or at least a long weekend. And remember, no date is going to be perfect for everyone. 3. Determine your budget. Decide what expenses will be paid directly by your attending reunion members (for instance, travel, hotel, perhaps a couple of meals) and what costs will be incurred by the group (catering or meals, facilities rental, postage). These costs should be divided among the participants or covered by a fund-raising effort. Some reunions charge a “registration fee” to cover these incidentals. Do make sure that you specify exactly what is and what isn’t included in the fee when you send out the invitations. You will want to set a due date in advance (a couple of months at least), for a percentage of the fee to be sent to you. This will also help solidify the guest list. Keep good records, and do your best to stay within the set budget. You can also make fund-raising part of the fun. An auction for which everyone contributes an item, a raffle or bake sale can help with raising extra money during the reunion, and be entertaining, too. 4. Call the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau. The sales staff offers a wealth of services for you to make your planning easy. and planning services and more for your reunion through an RFP (request for proposal) service that goes to all properties that can handle your particular type of reunion. All you need to do is provide the information, then sit back and wait for the bids to come to you. Many other services and helpful hints are available at www. explorebranson.com (RFP form is located on page 57 and on our website) 5. Select a location. This is best accomplished once you have a potential date and an approximate number of people, as well as an idea of how much you are willing to spend for accommodations. Branson has many great lodging and camping facilities available from value-priced motels to lakefront resorts and luxury hotels. Many of the properties are open year-round (you may be able to save money by traveling off season). Depending on the size of your group, you may qualify for a group discount, so be sure to ask the reservationist when you call. If you qualify for a group discount, you will need to decide whether you want to spread the savings to the entire group or designate any among your group as receiving a complimentary trip. It’s important when choosing your accommodations to consider whether or not your reunion would like a hospitality room, banquet room, catered meals on-site, and/or a restaurant on-site or within walking distance. When making reservations, request a confirmation letter from the lodging property that spells out all the details to avoid surprises. The letter should include dates, number of people, price per person, cancellation terms, and any other pertinent details. Review it thoroughly before signing and discuss any questions right away. Feel free to contact the Branson/Lakes Area CVB if you have any questions. 6. Select committees. If your reunion is of a large scale, you may want to create committees that will handle particular tasks. Not only does this help spread the responsibility, it also allows people to feel part of the effort. You may select committees to arrange the following: • Accommodations • Meals • Activities • Main event • Publicity within the group and invitations • Specialty items such as group t-shirts, memory books or other items. 7. Plan your itinerary. Remember that you want to plan activities that groups can do together, but also allow some “free” time for visiting and enjoying the great Branson surroundings. Branson has many venues for group activities, many of which can be combined into an activity such as lake cruises, dinner shows and theaters that are open for group functions. Consult the listings and you’re sure to find something for everyone. Consider games for large groups like softball and volleyball, a kids table (with toys and crafts), a group dinner with presentations, contests or talent show. You may want to plan an opening ceremony or do a casual meet and greet; it’s up to you. You’re sure to find the ideal location in the Branson/Lakes Area. 8. Plan the meals. Meal planning can be tricky and gets more difficult as the age range of your group members expands. For your banquet, welcome reception, farewell brunch or any group meal function make sure to find out in advance about any special dietary requirements for anyone in your group. Branson offers a wide range of dining choices from fast food to fine dining. The area’s many buffets can
be a great way to accommodate a variety of tastes. You will need to determine how many meals you might like to eat out together, how many meals are “on your own” and how many meals can be included in the “registration fee.” Decide if the meals will be banquet, buffet or reception style; a mixture of these options is usually a good bet. Again, in making reservations at a restaurant for a large group it’s good to get a letter of confirmation that spells out the details, and don’t forget to budget for gratuity. 9. Notify the group. Once you have decided on an itinerary, it’s time to send out invitations. Do this well in advance (six months to a year) and also send a reminder a few of weeks before the occasion. Include dates, accommodations, a preliminary itinerary, contact person with phone number, all costs, payment procedure, directions, and what clothing and equipment are appropriate. 10. Get help. Do not try to take care of all the details at the reunion yourself so retain the committees throughout event. Clearly delegate tasks before the event: set-up, cooking, clean-up, picture taking and other tasks. Depending on the complexity of your reunion, you may want to meet with the committees each morning to be sure all arrangements have been completed. Reunions can be even more memorable with group name tags, group photos (see page 14 for group photo options), a scrapbook for pictures and special memories, a special t-shirt or sweatshirt, a directory of attendees, or a display of group memorabilia and an event-specific autograph book for all the attendees or maybe a few Branson entertainers. The Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce can assist you in finding the appropriate area vendor for your needs. As the event approaches, remember to always be prepared. Have a contingency plan for inclement weather, provide extra sunscreen, simple first aid materials, snacks, and other needs. Most importantly, reunions are for everyone to enjoy and the Branson/ Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce can help you do just that.

The winery, located at the junction of Highway 165 and Green Mountain Drive (just two blocks south of Hwy. 76), delights thousands of tourists daily with a free, fun-filled hour of touring. Tasting Stone Hill’s many award-winning wines completes the experience. There is a proud tradition of Missouri winemaking and the tour focuses on telling the story of the vineyards and cellars at the winery’s main headquarters in Hermann, Missouri. Guests are invited to soak in the delightful aromas of maturing sherry and watch the actual bottling process of one of Stone Hill’s famous wines. Mount Pleasant Winery, with their award-wining wines, offers another reason to learn more about oenology, the science and study of all aspects of wine and winemaking. Located on Green Mountain Drive, just east of Stone Hill in Branson, Mount Pleasant is more than just a terrific place to enjoy great wines. It has a wine shop, an art gallery and hands-on bottling experiences all rolled into one. Visitors to Mount Pleasant have the unique opportunity to bottle their own dessert wine from a specially designed 600-gallon French oak barrel. Be sure to visit the tasting galleries, where more than wine is on display. The tasting galleries feature the works of renowned Missouri artists — from glass artisans to folk artisans to painters and sculptors. Enjoy the art while sipping your wine.
Branson’s newest winery experience, Branson Ridge Winery & Marketplace, is conveniently located on the scenic promenade in the vibrant Town Square of Branson Landing. It is the perfect location for enjoying Branson Landing’s Concert Series and the spectacular fountain show on the lakefront. After you taste some of the wonderful Missouri wine, plan on relaxing for a while on the outdoor sheltered patio and enjoy fabulous fare in a casual, European-style setting at Cafe diVine. During unseasonable weather, you may choose to dine in the comfortable indoor seating with views of the barrel room. The Marketplace offers a variety of specialty foods and gifts from Europe and many other corners of the globe. You can even create your own wine label while at the winery – brand your own wine or personalize a gift for someone special! Lindwedel Wine Garden features wines produced in the state of Missouri. The Lindwedel family wants to provide “a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy some of God’s most precious gifts, for any occasion, or none at all.” With outdoor decks and picnic areas overlooking a scenic Ozark panorama, indoor sitting rooms, and an event hall for larger groups, the wine garden offers a beautiful location for weddings, parties, reunions and other social gatherings.
