Every January the Potomac Vintage Riders bring their annual gathering to the York, Pa Fairgrounds and year after year this show continues to grow. Working as one, the AHRMA Mid Atlantic Vintage Cross-Country Series teams up with the gang from the Mid Atlantic Vintage Bikes at the Broom Factory to put on this great off-season event. Saturday night before the show the series honors its champions for the year at their annual awards banquet. A special thanks to all the volunteers that make all the events and awards banquet happen. Good food, good fun and bench racing was enjoyed by all. On Sunday morning the UTZ Arena at the York Fairgrounds opens to a full hall of mostly vintage and some modern parts and bike vendors. Every year the crowd grows with many looking for those hard to find parts and those two-wheel gems from days going by. There is a vintage bike show that’s second to none that’s hosted by the Mid-Atlantic Bikes from the Broom Works in Baltimore, MD. In talking with Mike Slate one of the shows promoters he shared that at least 80 of the 100 entries were new to the show this year and the number was most likely more than that. This year’s People’s Choice award went to Steve Dance from Jarrettsville, MD featuring his 1951 twin piped Triumph Trophy. If you’ve never been to this event, I’d say get it in your calendar for next year and for more info on this really cool vintage racing series please find them on Facebook at: AHRMA Mid Atlantic Vintage Racing or online at: www.potomacvintageriders.com. You can also see their ad here in our pages. If you missed the show don’t fret, a lot of these super cherry vintage rides can be found on display at the Broom Factory in Baltimore – get their hours of operation and more details at: www.maossa.com. SXCS – Hangover Harescramble Wicomico Motorsports Park January 5-6, 2020 What A Hangover - BrappMag Weekend Race Report Well it wasn’t exactly what you’re thinking - but it was the annual Hangover Harescramble put on by Trail Pros and the Sprint Cross Country Series (SXCS). Close to 500 racers from all around the Mid Atlantic region converged on the Wicomico Motorsports park to do battle on a cold day in early January. The weekend started off on Saturday with riders clinics by Andrew DeLong and Becca Sheets, two of the fastest off road riders in the nation. 26 riders total took part in the six hour training clinics. On Saturday evening the skies would open up and drop tons of rain on the venue leaving slick conditions on Sunday morning for the Micro and Youth racers. Micro Overall 1. Landyn Dalmasso 2. Colt Chaney 3. Nathaniel Oswald 4. Daniel Fluhart 5. Jacob Glenn 6. Brian Sands 7. Trace Yost 8. Elinor Hillian 9. Bradley Croneberger Jr 10. Aubrey Tsakanikas Youth Overall 1. Cole Forbes 2. Owen Barnes 3. Austin Tsakanikas 4. Dalten Robbins 5. Nicholas Sions 6. Seth White 7. Mason Tsakanikas 8. Ashton Lambert 9. Bryar Early 10. Logan Ritz Morning Overall 1. David Redman 2. Kenny Hawkins 3. Michael Chaney 4. Griere Moir 5. Clayton Robbins 6. Taylor Bowden 7. Michael Davis 8. Nathan Tolton 9. Tyler Toms 10. Main Overall 1. Jarrett Mohn 2. Henry Symanski 3. Devin Cafasso 4. Earl Luhn III 5. Jed Haines 6. David Redman 7. Austin Zink 8. Nathan Dulaney 9. Buddy Barnes 10. Robie Leese

20 of the 24 Micro age riders that started would finish the 45 minute event in some pretty cold and slick riding conditions. A big way to go - goes out to all who entered under these conditions and to Landyn Dalmasso for grabbing the O/a win. Next up would be the one-hour youth event won by Cole Forbes followed by the morning race around 11:30. Talk about holy congestion as line after line of racers passed though the first turn. Over 250 racers would cover the course in an hour and a half race with David Redman bringing home the overall. The afternoon main event would see another 150 riders line up to race the 10 mile course prepared by Billy Schlag and the Trail Pros crew. Jarrett Mohn would chase Henry Symanski for the first two laps after Mohn crashed right after the start. He would make the pass on lap three and never look back to take the win finishing just two minutes ahead of Symanski and just over four minutes ahead of third place Devin Cafasso.

Owen Barnes receives congratulations from series promoter Bill Schlag for winning the Youth Ironman award.

Pennsylvania has more than 260 miles of ATV trails in state forests. The department is reviewing its policy to respond to increasing demands for riding opportunities and well as interest from local governments in expanding tourism.

“The purpose of the policy is to provide guidance to DCNR when acquiring, developing and managing lands for ATV use by the public,” Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn said.

There had been a moratorium on new trail development, but the policy revisions now authorize DCNR to consider new ATV trails and connectors on state forest lands.

“New ATV trails will be considered, while still balancing the protection of natural resources as outlined in the Environmental Rights Amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution, and the needs of all types of recreational users on DCNR lands,” Dunn said.

In a 2016 survey of ATV users, more than 4,800 responded with many indicating a strong desire for more long-distance trails. Pennsylvania has around 285,000 registered ATVs. On state forest lands, ATV riding is allowed only on designated trails.

Public comments were taken at a meeting in Harrisburg January 22, at the Rachel Carson State Office Building.
