THRIVE: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE THERAPY CENTER
BY USING THE SIMPLICITY OF NATURE, THIS DESIGN WILL CREATE A STRESS FREE AND UNOBSTRUCTED AREA FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS TO FLOURISH SPIRITUALLY AND EMOTIONALLY. THIS WILL BE ATTAINED BY EMPLOYING SEVERAL DIFFERENT TACTICS KNOWN TO RELIEVE STRESS AND ANXIETY AND INCORPORATING THEM INTO THE OVERALL DESIGN, INDOORS AND OUTDOORS. WITH ANXIETY PLAYING AN IMMENSE ROLE IN THESE VICTIMS LIVES, THIS SPACE WILL RELY ON THE HEALING PROPERTIES OF CONTACT WITH NATURE. FLOOR TO CEILING WINDOWS GIVE A FLAWLESS VIEW OF THE ALASKAN TERRAIN. THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN USING THE AREA SHOULD FEEL AT REST AND SAFE FROM HARM, GRANTING THEM THE OPPORTUNITY TO HEAL PHSYICALLY AND PSYCHOLOGICALLY.
PROCESS
INCORPORATING A GREENHOUSE TO THE SPACE WILL PROVIDE THE DESIRED USE OF NATURE. THE USE OF BIOPHILIA WILL ALLOW USERS TO ABSORB THE POSITIVE IMPACTS OF NATURE AND DAYLIGHT. THE GREENHOUSE IS ALSO AN EXCELLENT WAY OF PROVIDING A THERAPUTIC SPACE WITHOUT DIRECTLY IMPOSING AN INSTITUTIONAL IDEA ON USERS
THE FOCUS OF THIS DESIGN IS TO PROVIDE A SPACE FOR USERS TO SOCIALIZE WITH ONE ANOTHER FOR EMOTIONAL THREAPY AND RECOVERY. POSITIONING SOCIAL GATHERING SPACES IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO THE PRIVATE STUDY/ SOLITARY AREAS, EXPOSES USERS TO A SAFE CLIMATE THAT GIVES THEM THE EMOTIONAL COMFORT OF PRIVACY WHILE STILL OFFERING THE OPPORTUNITY TO INTERACT WITH OTHERS.

INDIVIDUAL PROJECT / ABSTRACT MODEL HOME PROGRAMS: HAND SKETCHING
PROJECT: OBJECTIVE: THROUGH THE USE OF AN ABSTRACT SHAPE, CREATE A MODEL OF A MODERNIZED FUTURE RESIDENCE WITH AN OPEN CONCEPT. USING THIS MODEL, DESIGN A VACATION HOME THAT WILL BEST EXPRESS THE ENVIRONMENT SURROUNDING IT.
COLORADO CABIN
COLORADO CABIN
THE CONCEPT FOR THIS DESIGN IS AN ABSTRACT HOME SET IN THE BEAUTIFUL STATE OF COLORADO. THIS HOME WILL FULFILL THE BASIC NEEDS OF THE OCCUPANTS WHILE SUPPLYING THEM WITH A PEACEFUL ESCAPE FROM THE OUTSIDE WORLD. I ENVISION THE HOME TO BE TUCKED AWAY IN THE WOODS, SURROUNDED BY TREES AND WILDLIFE. I CHOSE TO USE WOOD PANELING FOR THE EXTERIOR OF MY HOME BECAUSE I FOUND IT IMPORTANT TO INCORPORATE THE ENVIRONMENT INTO MY OVER ALL DESIGN. THIS HOME IS MY VISION OF A MODERN TWIST ON THE EVERYDAY CABIN AMERICANS HAVE LEARNED TO LOVE.
PROCESS
FLOORPLAN:
TO CREATE THE DESIGN AND SHAPE OF THIS STRUCTURE, I USED A PIECE OF PAPER AND FOLDED IT INTO AN ABSTRACT SHAPE. THEN USED PICTURES OF THIS SHAPE TO CREATE A 3D MODEL OF THE HOUSE I WANTED TO DESIGN. THESE IMAGES SHOW THE PROCESS OF HOW I CREATED THE EXTERIOR FACADE OF MY STRUCTURE.
