Top 9 Things to Look for When You Are House Hunting If you’re thinking about buying a home, this list can help get your search off on the right foot. While the number of rooms, the condition of the kitchen, and the size of the yard are important, there are other things to think over before you make an offer. Consider these factors: The Location The three most important things to think about when buying a home are location, location, location. You can change almost everything. But, once bought, you cannot change your home’s location. Consider the distance from your job, school and how easy is to get to parks, shopping, restaurants, etc. The Neighborhood Be sure the neighborhood, and not just the house, meets your expectations. Drive around on weekdays and weekends, during the day and in the evening. Go to the grocery store nearby, observe the people; they will be your future neighbors. Is the neighborhood safe? Are there children playing in the yard? The Home’s Curb Appeal Your home should reflect your lifestyle. Look at the exterior features. A brick home is easier to maintain. Is the landscaping attractive and are the sidewalks leading to the home safe?

need, and only look at homes that meet your criteria. An extra bedroom is always a plus, as it can be used for a home office, craft studio, or guest room. The Kitchen If the kitchen is the heart of your home, don’t settle for a home with a kitchen that won’t work. You can always remodel, but analyze the cost first. Don’t worry about appliances, as they can usually be easily replaced. The Closets and Storage Be sure you have closets and storage space to put all your things in your new home. Newer homes tend to have big closets and lots of storage. You can always add storage space, but you might have to sacrifice living space in your rooms. The Windows and Lighting Look at home with light and sunshine in mind. Look at the locations of electrical outlets and fixtures. Is there recessed lighting in the kitchen, cove lighting in the family room and a chandelier in the dining room? If not, you can add them later, but it’s nice to have it in place when you move in.

The Size and the Floor Plan You may be thinking about buying your dream home. But do you need four bedrooms and four baths when you live alone? A large home can give you the extra space but you’ll pay higher heating bills and have higher taxes.

The Finishing Touches Sometimes the simplest home looks spectacular thanks to the installed moldings, hardware, granite countertops and backsplash. If these elements are important to you, look for them while house hunting or be ready to add them after you move in. If you keep these specific elements of a home in mind, your house hunting will be more successful, and you’ll likely end up with the home of your dreams.

Health

Dr. Andréia,

is a Doctor Who Treats Patients without Submitting to the Tyranny of the Clock. Before having her own office, Andréia says that she worked in large clinics where she was required to attend an average of 28 to 30 patients a day, “It was insane! I was always behind in my consultations with patients because in my point of view, a person needs to be heard, needs attention and that requires my time. “ While she worked in large medical groups, there was no time to maintain the production. That whole rushing situation was leaving Andréia feeling sad and distressed. The joy for her work only came back when she managed to open her own clinic. She chose a place where she could live close home and to the hospital. Thus, being able to save time commuting and having enough time to provide full attention to her family and patients. She grew up in São Caetano do Sul a city in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, and as she grew older her curiosity about living and working in America increased gradually. When she first came to America, she visited Orlando, Florida. “I came to Disney to celebrate my 15th birthday and, at that time, I couldn’t even imagine that someday I would live and raise my children up here. Andréia has two children, Giovani who is twelve years old and Isabela who is 8 years old. The decision to come to the U.S. came ten years after that first trip, while she was a foreign exchange student at a school in California where she was learning to speak the English language. While she was there, she decided to carefully prepare and plan to move to America permanently. “At that time, I was already studying medicine at the University of Mogi das Cru-

zes and the encouragement of friends and colleagues helped a lot in the decision making.” It wasn´t easy in the beginning. She was lacking the knowledge of the academic life routine in America. Andréia said that she ended up losing two years of her studies because she was misguided about which tests were required in America for foreign doctors to practice medicine. The delay, however, did not take away her desire to succeed, and see the dream of caring for people come true. As soon as she completed the entire academic part and obtained the certificate of ECFM (Educational Commission of International Medical Graduates) she applied for medical resident positions in Hospitals in Texas and West Virginia. “It was difficult at the Hospital of the University of West Virginia where I was called in to be evaluated and they had only two open positions and thank God I was chosen for one of them.” Her first chance of residency was in the general surgery department. Gradually, however, she realized that, in addition to being in the operating room, she loved being able to talk, understand and care for patients, especially, helping women to have their children as well as helping them take care of their own health. Today, she’s accountable for more than 3,000 deliveries and for every newborn baby that she helpsdeliver she feels more motivation to continue moving forward with the certainty that she made the right choice. “Medicine is not a business. When a patient suffers, I suffer along with her/

him. The patient/doctor relationship is fundamental for a successful treatment, and that is the reason the patient has to be treated as a unique individual, without the tyranny of the clock.” In her opinion, when the doctor dedicates her/himself to listening, encouraging the patient... he gains confidence for the work that he is providing, and that increases the possibility of successful treatment. A FAMILY CARING FOR SEVERAL FAMILIES Each corner of Blessings – Woman & Care Medical Spa has been assembled and decorated by Dr. Andréia and her proud parents who traveled from Brazil to the United States to help out their Daughter with her business. Mr. Ishmael, Dr. Andreia’s father, takes care of the financial part of the clinic and still has time to take care of errands with his grandchildren. This allows Dr. Andréia to take her time and focus calmly on her patients. Patients can also count on the kindness of Mrs. Helenita, Andréia’s mother who welcomes each patient when they enter the office and helps Brazilian patients feel right at home when they enter the office. She makes this task look easy with her smile, coffee and motherly warmth, which usually has a more positive effect than any medication.

The search for optimal weight without suffering Brazilian nutritionist creates a method focused on weight loss combined with physical and mental wellbeing and it has been so successful that she is now getting ready to open three clinics in the United States.

Increasingly disseminating, health problems related to overweight worry millions of people worldwide, and for decades some diets promise absurd miracles, which ends up generating the yo-yo effect (losing and regaining weight right after) and other diets that cause serious restrictions and are very difficult to follow to the letter. She was thinking of developing a method that was effective without generating vexations on patients, that nutritionist Vanessa Gomes Silveira Queiroz developed a new technique that combines her work with that of doctors and machinery, aiming at a mild, healthy and efficient weight loss. Born in Fortaleza, Vanessa is a nutritionist with a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in the food re-education part has several courses of cognitive-behavioral therapy working the relationship of the person with food. In addition to studying in Brazil, she also took courses in Miami, Orlando, and California. Vanessa was also a university professor and course coordinator for more than ten years, as well as helping to create several courses in the area of Nutrition. With such knowledge, she began to elaborate on her own slimming method. “I understand that health is a mental, social and physical development. One needs to be satisfied with their own body and be mentally well in order to be healthy. You have to work on all sorts of relationships that the patient has with food. My audience is people who have tried all kinds of diets and have failed to lose weight because their diet plans only had a simple restriction process “do not eat this and do that”, a game of rules that no one can follow for long and ends up causing what we call the yo-yo effect, so my idea was to set up a clinic aiming a global approach to weight loss, working the esthetic part, with doctors that give all the support needed on the hormonal part and inBrazilUSA - Business & Real Estate

had in mind,” Vanessa explains. After the difficulties, Vanessa opened, this February, her clinic in Orlando and later this year will inaugurate two more. One in Winter Garden and another one in Hamlin. “We will have the methods of the doctors here as well as the technology simultaneously with my experience. The clinics will focus on the overall care of our patients. We will also provide food for breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner, plus an excellent line of food supplements. Let’s bust the myth that to lose weight you need to have a bad cabbage soup or tasteless tea. We will have many options of dishes, including pizza and tasty salty treats, all delicious and with the advantage of being healthy Proceeding on the food options offered at the clinic, Vanessa explains that each patient can choose to buy, for as many days as he wants, as it will not be mandatory. “Some may purchase for a day, others for a week, or for a month. We make the suggestion and they decide.” fillers, easily completed and body esthetics. We have several strategies to achieve a faster result, working on positivity, orientation, attitude, commitment, and balance, because all of these aspects interfere in the process.” Vanessa explains that people often eat more due to compulsion rather than hunger. “The person does not eat the pizza, the person actually eats the pleasure of being with friends, because they’re stressed or they’re happy. That’s why my team and I will work on all aspects that support this reason for eating and not just ban it.”

Opening of three clinics During ten years, Vanessa attended a clinic in Brazil and then went on to providing online care to people from all over the world, such as Ireland, Dubai, China, the United States, etc., until she decided to come to America to set up the VQ Weight Loss Center clinic, the Brazilian points out that the meaning of her name is butterfly and that means change, transformation, renewal and that will be the space for patients to go through these steps. The clinic even has a wall decorated with butterflies with the inscription “Fly to your dreams”. According to Vanessa, although having everything planned out and thoroughly studying the field of action, the timing of putting her business into action was greater than expected because, here in the United States, several licenses are required, and one needs a lot of patience to obtain them. “I got here a year ago to analyze and set up the clinic. It was a difficult beginning, because I came alone, without my three children and husband, so the longing to be with them was immense, but thank God, now they’re all here. Another difficulty was the language, “I didn’t speak English and I had to learn in order to better get around, and ultimately, the licenses issue that took twice as long as I

Personal experience Many who see nutritionist Vanessa believe that her healthy physical form is just a matter of genetics, but according to her, this does not correspond to the truth. As a teenager, I was chubby, I had a lot of ice cream and loved to eat what we call junk food. I suffered a lot because of my body, photographs and mirrors bothered me, and clothes didn’t fit. I had many difficulties to losing weight and only when I started studying did I learn that it is essential to have the right strategies and techniques to actually stay in the ideal weight and maintain it because that is the most difficult part. Approximately 90% of the people that lose weight dieting gain weight again shortly after. So, my studies were to get away from that so I could be able to obtain balance and live a healthy life.”
