FastForward is a high-demand program helping Virginians get the jobs they want and the salaries they need. FastForward programs are short-term training courses offered through Virginia’s Community Colleges to help you fast-track your career. The Commonwealth of Virginia is offsetting the tuition of certain high-demand credential programs. Students pay 33%* of the tuition when they register. The State pays 66%. WORKFORCE & CONTINUING EDUCATION GREETINGS SHENANDOAH VALLEY, Workforce and Continuing Education of Blue Ridge Community College would like to welcome you to a unique fall semester. While COVID-19 has affected us all in many ways, we have flexed our training formats to be primarily online. For courses that meet in person, we have developed excellent social distancing plans for everyone’s safety, all with the goal of providing you the best experience in certification attainment. Although we are in a different environment, we have never been more excited about the opportunities available to our community looking for short-term training leading to good paying, in-demand careers. In addition to the FastForward discounts for all Virginia residents, and financial aid for low-income individuals, “Virginia Ready” will further support the unemployed looking for a new pathway by providing a $1,000 credential achievement award. AVIATION COMMERCIAL PILOT CERTIFICATE Ready for take-off into an exciting career? BRCC’s commercial pilot program provides hands-on pilot training to ensure you’re up and flying right away with the right stuff. Our knowledgeable instructors focus on providing practical learning with in-flight training that will prepare you for a successful aviation career. BRCC is partnering with Blue Ridge Aviation to offer the flight training components of this program; students are required to pay additional fees directly to them as the contracted flight school. The greatest disaster at sea in the history of the US Navy - the story of the USS Indianapolis CA-35 is one of triumph and tragedy, suffering and sorrow, perseverance and justice, and healing and discovery. Too big of a story to tell in one session, join us for Part I where we discuss the prewar history of this ship and crew from construction and launch, to sinking and rescue. Your instructor is the only Japanese-born son of a USS Indianapolis Survivor. Hear directly from descendants of those involved (and possibly some actual survivors!) in the mission to deliver the atomic bomb, the tremendous chaos of the sinking, the rescue and recovery, and then have time to discuss and ask questions about this historical event

Join us for Part II of this series where we discuss the court martial of an innocent man, the gatherings of survivors for over 70 years, the inspirational impact a 12-year-old boy made in righting history, and the amazing and highly-improbable discovery of the ship in 2017.
