Bredemeijer Group is fully committed to sustainability. To doing business in harmony with people and nature. With all our efforts, we aim to make the planet a little bit better. So that we create a pleasant place for the current generations and can pass on something beautiful to future generations.
Bredemeijer Group implements an active sustainability policy. For both the short and long term, we have set ourselves 5 clear goals: reducing CO2 emissions, making products and packaging more sustainable, promoting inclusivity and well-being, reducing and better separating waste, and encouraging the reuse of items. To achieve all this, we have established a Green Team to take the lead in these efforts.
Sustainable production
We are committed to making the production chain more sustainable. From raw material to end product, at every step in the process, we look for ways to gain sustainability benefits. It starts with the raw materials. For our steel products, these come from the immediate vicinity where a lot of steel is available, in our case China. This allows us to keep transportation and thus CO2 emissions as low as possible. Where possible, we already use recycled raw materials, but in any case, all used materials are recyclable. For the majority of our bamboo and wooden products, a FSC certification applies. The material left over after the production process is taken to a recycling station on site and can be reused.
BSCI and SMETA
Bredemeijer Group treats its employees responsibly and demands the same from its suppliers. The factories we collaborate with are mostly BSCI or SMETA certified. These certifications aim to promote fairer working conditions. A certified company stands for fair wages, safe working conditions, reasonable working hours, and environmental awareness. The minimum age requirements of workers must also be observed.
Packaging, transport, and end product
In recent years, we have taken the path towards manufacturing sustainable packaging. For example, plastic has largely been replaced by more sustainable alternatives, we mostly use FSC-certified paper and cardboard, and, where possible, we choose natural inks for printing. When delivering products to our customers, we take into account that we transport as little air as possible. Boxes are custom-sized, and for filling material, we use shredded cardboard from used boxes. Regarding our shipments from China, we know the emissions of all our deliveries and compensate by replanting trees, in our case more than 600 trees annually.
Bredemeijer Group guarantees end users a product that will last for years, even with daily use. To extend the lifespan, it provides maintenance tips and offers a wide range of spare parts. Repairing is, after all, more sustainable than replacing.
Pleasant working environment
In our working environment, inclusivity and well-being are paramount. We actively ensure that individuals, regardless of their background or identity, have equal opportunities and feel welcome, respected, and valued. To enhance well-being, we offer, among other things, a healthy lunch and fruit from local entrepreneurs and the opportunity to exercise together.
The office environment provides every opportunity to work comfortably. Where possible, sustainability measures have been implemented, such as 100% use of green electricity. The vehicle fleet will eventually be fully electric, and for international travel, employees prefer to travel by train.
We have begun the journey towards sustainability and want to contribute to a better world now and in the future!

What is your role?
I am the product manager for the Leopold Vienna brand. This means I handle product design and development as well as purchasing. I am responsible for all the steps taken until the final product leaves the supplier.
How long have you been working at Bredemeijer Group?
I have been working for the Bredemeijer Group for a year and a half now.
What is your favourite Leopold Vienna product and why?
I will cheekily choose two items: the coffee & tea maker ‘Otto’ and the accompanying double-walled glasses. These are the first items I completely conceived and developed myself. The fun part about this collection is that it focuses not only on the design of the items but also on the process of making coffee.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Actually, everywhere. Sometimes I see an item that has nothing to do with the Leopold Vienna range, but I find its shape or a detail interesting. For instance, I am currently developing a wine cooler based on a pen holder. Additionally, I always get inspired by current trends. These can

be trends within our own assortment, but I also look at trends, colours, and prints in the fashion world.
What does a typical workday look like for you at Bredemeijer?
I work with many suppliers whose day starts a few hours earlier than mine. Therefore, I always start by checking my mailbox. Once the mail is dealt with, I work on ongoing projects. Since we work with two seasons, these projects vary daily. One day I might be assessing samples, the next day managing stock positions and purchase quantities. Meanwhile, I sometimes receive requests for private label items that I need to further develop. Hence, there is no standard day; each day brings new challenges and tasks.
How does Leopold Vienna ensure products are sustainable and of high quality?
The most important thing is to maintain good contact with suppliers. We discuss how to develop the product with the highest possible quality and how to package it as robustly as possible with minimal environmental impact. Additionally, we always conduct a quality check before the products are shipped. If we still receive feedback from our customers about a product, we immediately address it with the supplier to see how we can resolve it.
How did you come up with the name of the new Arinto collection?
I always like it when a brand has small, hidden surprises. The name Arinto is one such surprise at Leopold Vienna. It is the name of a grape used to make wine.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I always feel like a little kid finally opening the gift from under the Christmas tree when I receive a box of samples of new items. You have a certain idea in your head of how the product will look, and you’ve had weeks or even months of contact about this item with a supplier. Still, it’s always a wait to see if the samples look like the idea in your head. If they do, it can really give you a kick!
How do you see the future for Leopold Vienna?
Over the past year, we have worked hard to bring more cohesion to the collection. In the future, I hope to build beautiful collections around this foundation and launch more unique items designed by ourselves. It should become a brand that is not about a single product, but about collections that tell a certain theme. Additionally, I hope to add some new ranges to create even more cohesion. Lastly, I would also like to make the brand more sustainable. Hopefully, by 2025, the first items in the collection will be made of 100% recycled aluminum.

What is your role? Sales
How long have you been working at Bredemeijer Group?
I have been working for the Bredemeijer Group for 15 years now. Before that, I worked for the Zilverstad brand in Schoonhoven for 10 years. This brand was acquired by Bredemeijer Group, so all in all, I have been involved with the company and the brands for a very long time.
What is your favourite product from the collection and why?
I really enjoy selling (children’s) products for special occasions, such as births, birthdays, and anniversaries. My heart lies a little more with the Zilverstad range. I have been working with this brand for many years, and also gained a lot of knowledge about how the items are made during the period when we still produced these in Schoonhoven.
What are the most common questions customers have about Bredemeijer products?
Customers ask a wide variety of questions. For example, they ask if an item is dishwasher safe and where the collection can be purchased. But I also get questions about prices and delivery times and whether spare parts are available for certain items.
What does a typical workday look like for you at Bredemeijer?
My daily tasks mainly involve answering customer calls. These are both business customers and consumers who have questions about our items or our webshop. I also handle incoming emails, process orders in our system, call back customers, and make replacement shipments and credit notes. Additionally, I provide the sales representatives with information and assist them with order processing. Finally, I handle reviews and ensure any complaints are resolved to the customer’s satisfaction. In short, everything related to sales.
How does Bredemeijer Group ensure a sustainable sales department?
We minimize waste in our office and raise awareness of sustainable practices among our employees. This is how we contribute to a better environment and a pleasant working environment.
How important is product knowledge for your job and how do you stay up-to-date?
Product knowledge is absolutely essential in a commercial role. Only in this way am I able to provide customers with correct and accurate information, and stimulate sales. I stay up to date by frequently viewing the items in our showroom. Additionally, we have a few product meetings each year in collaboration with the purchasing department where extensive information about all our items is shared. What I also do regularly is research products myself and if I have questions I can’t answer, I can always turn to our purchasing department.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
What I enjoy most about my job is the customer contact. I like to build a good rapport with customers. I enjoy advising people on which products best suit their store and I do everything I can to ensure an order is delivered correctly. I also enjoy the variety of tasks. One moment you are preparing a quote, and the next moment you are at a trade show or visiting customers. I have a commercial mindset and like to achieve good sales results, and of course, I want our customers to be satisfied.
