John Wilson is a qualified and experienced music teacher who has recently moved to Beeston after spending many successful years in state and independent schools down south. “At Goldsmiths (University of London) I received my Bachelor of Music degree and the Post Graduate Teaching Certificate. I also passed the Associate diploma in piano performance at the London College of Music. Very soon into my teaching career I became Head of Music at a large comprehensive school in Essex. This was followed by a move to Oxford where, after a short period of time as a head teacher, I became the first Director of Music at a highly successful independent primary school called Chandlings. A constant desire, throughout the whole of my career, has been to teach piano, keyboard and music theory to people of all ages. I am also keen to take on students who enjoy singing songs from the shows (musical theatre vocal skills,) and can help them prepare for grades recently being offered by the Guildford School of Acting (with the University of Surrey). Please get in touch with John if you are interested in having lessons and/or require further information telephone: 0115 922 6210 or Mobile: 07500877585. http://johnwilson.vpweb.co.uk Email: viv_john@hotmail.com
This is a ‘Who’s back’ rather than a ‘Who’s new’ as Angela isn’t new to driver training and nor is she new to the local area – she’s been an Attenborough resident for the past seven years, she has however been in Australia for a year and is now back to continue her driver training business. “My family had the opportunity to have a change of lifestyle for a year and who wouldn’t take it!” she says, “but now it’s back to reality and time to get back to the job I really enjoy.” “The chance to help someone achieve one of life’s milestones is fantastic; you meet a nervous first-timer who often can’t believe they’ll be driving a car, changing gear and taking the first step to passing their test by the end of their first lesson – it’s a great feeling for them and me,” says Angela. She became a qualified instructor in 2004 and since then has helped countless people pass their test, continue with Pass Plus training and even given qualified drivers assistance with an area of their driving they haven’t been happy with. “I had one client who had taken nine driving tests before coming to me and had no confidence in their driving ability. We worked at it and on our second test together we got the Pass, it was a brilliant result and the reason I love what I do!” For more details contact Angela on 07776071996

Tranquillity Holistic Therapy Centre run by Kerrie Plowman is a new therapy centre situated on Bramcote Avenue, Chilwell. Offering an array of luxurious chemical free, paraban free, organic treatments. Kerrie qualified as an ITEC holistic therapist in 2004. She initially offered corporate chair massage to businesses but took a short career break from her busy schedule, after the birth of her son, Jamie. Kerrie returned to work in 2009 and rented a room at The Little London Herbal store in the middle of Nottingham. After a successful six months, building up a loyal client base, she decided to move away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Moving to a new, quieter shared location in Beeston meant that Kerrie could widen her range of treatments. However, even though Kerrie found the ambience much more conducive to her style of massage, she still wanted the freedom of her own room and be able to offer clients the treatments they wanted at a time to suit their hectic lifestyles. So in April 2011 Tranquillity Holistic Therapy Centre was born. “I always treat my clients how I would want to be treated, as an individual and made to feel special, which is the way it should be” Visit the website www.tranquilityevents.co.uk or call Kerrie on 0115 922 1919 and enjoy a totally unique and relaxing experience.

Craig Leggat is 30 years old and has lived in Toton all his life. “I’ve has always had a desire to start his own business, but wanted to do something different from my original career choice as a plumber”. Having recently had a Garra Rufa Fish treatment at Center Parcs, Craig was so amazed and impressed by the affect he looked in to the possibility of opening his own shop. Craig researched all he could about the Garra Rufa Fish treatment and the benefits it could give people. The fish originate from Turkey and although spas are not meant as a cure it has been found to alleviate the symptoms of many skin conditions including psoriasis and eczema quite dramatically. He also found out it could stimulate acupuncture points on your feet to regulate your nervous system. As Craig is a keen keep fit enthusiast he found the treatment quite helpful especially after long distance running. Craig chose Beeston for his location, as it is local with a good shopping area and would give people the experience without having to go to either Nottingham or Derby City Centre. Also coming soon ...OPI Nailbar. Call and experience the treatment for yourself at Garra Rufa, 2B Stoney St, Beeston, Nottingham. Tel: 0777 397 2910

FASHION TRENDS As is typical of the twenty-first century, we seem to be presented with an overwhelming excess of choice. In every field of society and culture, there are more and more options to choose from, with less and less definition to separate or distinguish. So how do you make the right choice and retain your own individuality? It seems increasingly tough to know what you want, and who you are. The more choice we have the more we look the same. Perhaps the key is to make the decisions using your needs rather than your wants – what does the weather call for? What is sensible and versatile for my job and my personal life? What clothes are easy to wash or easy to travel and pack? One staple that really does require a sensible decision is coats. The right winter coat can last you for life – I am sure we all have one infamous family coat, perhaps an old sheepskin creature from the 70s, or one of mum’s big camel-haired cover-ups that teaches us this. And a good coat should be stylish whilst never quite being in fashion. After all, fashion fades but style remains. And we certainly don’t want a coat disappearing on us in the middle of winter. Of course the obstacles between us and the ideal coat are time and money. We don’t want to spend weeks searching for this one item of clothing – nor do we want to have to take out a second mortgage to get it. Check out the local stores to find an outfit to suit the upcoming seasons.

tion breeze promo
Derby based Woodland Property Services have opened a new Kitchen, Bedroom and Bathroom installation division which will create at least twenty new jobs in Derby. Woodland Living are to supply and install quality, well priced, fitted kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms to both trade and retail customers in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Meeting Managing Director Matt Fearn was a real pleasure, his enthusiasm for the imminent launch of the new service was infectious - Matt exclaimed “We pledge to offer fantastic customer service and great value. There will be no high pressure sales tactics, just honest advice, great products and a well planned delivery schedule”. Woodland should be well placed to deliver such a service as they have been successfully working in the Public Services sector since 1998. It has to be said, the list of accreditations awarded to Woodland is impressive, they boast more than most in this fiercely competitive marketplace. Matt was keen to point out “the competition doesn’t worry us at all, our pedigree, products and service speaks for itself.” Clients can choose from an impressive selection of traditional and contemporary ranges. There is also the opportunity to have your kitchen “revamped” using the Kitchen King service which will see your existing kitchen re-modelled by replacing the “tired doors and worn work-tops” Perfect for anyone who has a restricted budget. So, if you are hoping to improve your home, it has to be worth considering Woodland Living. Woodland can be contacted on 0800 121 7771 or you can visit their website at www.woodlandliving.co.uk

FIVE DOROTHYS GO ‘OVER THE RAINBOWS’ FOR LOCAL CHARITY Superstar ‘Dorothy’ Lauren Samuels and friends performed a special charity concert for the east midland’s children’s hospice Rainbows last week. The concert featured five Dorothys – all co-stars of Ms Samuels on the BBC TV show ‘Over The Rainbow’. The Dorothys, plus a supporting cast of male West End stars, made their very own ‘Rainbow’ sporting the colourcoded outfits they wore for the TV show. The concert, which also featured the Rainbows Choir, consisted of classic show tunes such as The Sound of Music, Summer Nights from Grease and of course, Over The Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz. The sold out performances, attracted more than 400 people to each show and raised a total of over £10,000. Lauren Samuels is an Honorary Ambassador for Rainbows and she persuaded her fellow Dorothys to join her in the charity concert.
The singers included Stephanie Fearon, Jessica Robinson, Bronte Barbe, Emilie Fleming and Chloe Hart, all fresh from various successes in the West End and on television. Lauren Samuels has just starred as Sandy in the West End production of Grease and is already lined up to play Scaramouche in the Queen musical ‘We Will Rock You’. Scott Lea, marketing manager for Rainbows, said: “We are so grateful to Lauren and her friends for taking time out of their busy schedules to raise
money for local children. The evening was a great success and the money raised will help fund our groundbreaking work in music therapy, an important part of our work at Rainbows.”
Rainbows Hospice for Children & Young People covers the whole of the East Midlands, although it is based in Loughborough, Leicestershire. It was founded by Gail and Harry Moore, whose daughter, Laura, had died of Leukaemia in 1989. Laura’s favourite thing in the world was a rainbow. Since its official opening in April 1995 by HRH Prince of Wales, hundreds of life-limited children, young people, their families, siblings, relatives and friends from across the East Midlands have used the hospice. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare for children to die when they’re very young or to watch your child deteriorate slowly over a number of years. In most cases, full-time care falls to the parents – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Not surprisingly the whole family is under huge emotional, physical and financial strain. Rainbows Children’s Hospice helps children and families in these situations with the emotional and physical challenges they face, helping them to make the most of life.

Welcome to our Kids Zone special...
OPEN DAY Record year for Bluecoat Sixth Form A Level students at The Nottingham Bluecoat Post-16 Centre achieved their best ever grades in summer 2011. Apart from the two private High Schools, Bluecoat was the only institution in Nottingham to achieve a 100% pass rate. At AS Level, too, the pass rate rose to 94%, well above the national average. Half of A Level entries gained an A*, A or B grade and over threequarters gained an A*-C grade. As a result, the majority of students successfully gained admission to their first choice of university. The rise in results at the Sixth Form has coincided with a rise in the number of students choosing Bluecoat for their Post-16 education. The Sixth Form has grown by 100 students since 2006/07 to reach its current size of 320. More than half of the students from the School’s Aspley Lane campus and Wollaton Park campus choose to stay on into the Sixth Form and are joined by many students who enroll after completing their GCSEs at other Nottinghamshire schools. Applications for September 2012 are now open and students from all schools are warmly invited to Bluecoat’s Post-16 Open evening on Thursday 20th October.

The role of working mums is now more important than ever to joint family incomes. But what do parents look for when choosing suitable childcare for their little ones? How do they make that decision which will have a long term effect on the well being of the whole family? The staff at Church House Nursery in Beeston know only too well the difficulties involved with making that choice. The nursery has achieved twenty years of providing positive support to parents as well as top quality care for children. Church House has a specialist management team and highly qualified staff group which ensures the quality of its childcare. This has resulted in an enviable reputation, not only for its outcomes for the children but also for its very low staff turnover which has been much appreciated by parents over the years. Manager Hilary says “The key to good quality is delivering consistent high standards. Parents need to be able to trust that we will do our best for the children every single day. Achieving that requires dedication and commitment. We have demonstrated that commitment over a twenty year period and we shall continue to do so for the foreseeable future.” Church House offers full and part day nursery sessions to children aged 0 - 5 years. They also provide nursery education to 3 year olds under the Government's Free Entitlement scheme which is open to all children whether their parents are working or not. If you would like to discuss your childcare needs with Hilary or any of the other senior staff, please phone to arrange a visit. EDUCATION At Kip McGrath they are dedicated to ensuring every child succeeds. “We guarantee your child will have the opportunity to gain the knowledge and understanding they need. Kip McGrath children often improve in maths or English by 3 years in 1 and sometimes even faster! By taking advantage of our free assessment we give parents and children the benefit of having a clear picture of what the problems are and how we intend to solve them. What’s more this is completely free of charge. From this assessment we are able to design an individual programme for your child to solve these specific problems. From day one we begin to address the issues and build a more complete picture of the subject. Your child’s improvement will be obvious with better school reports and increased confidence. We guarantee that a CRB checked, qualified teacher will work with your child and will keep a record of the progress made. Once your child begins their programme you will see more than just academic improvement. The success they will have helps to build their confidence and inspire them to achieve even more. You will also reap the benefit of their success with the peace of mind that comes from seeing your children improve their skills week by week”. Kip McGrath Education centres have helped thousands of children achieve and exceed academic targets all over the world for over twenty years. By taking a professional approach to private tuition the centres have built a reputation for excellence, value and quality. Find out more at www.abctoalevel.co.uk.

Wollaton Village Day Nurseries were established in 1994. The buildings have been specifically designed with children in mind. The four Nurseries in the group are located in Wollaton Village centre, Bramcote village on Chapel Street, Eastwood on Church Street and in Heanor on Wilmot Street behind the health centre. They all have a friendly atmosphere of home with an educational environment. They take children aged between 6 weeks and 5 years and some of their Nurseries run a holiday and after school club. The four Nurseries follow the group policies regarding childcare but each unit operates its own opening times and price structure, general opening times are from 8am to 6pm, but longer hours can be accommodated for. “We have adopted this system to try and give the parents at each Nursery a more flexible service to fit into everyday working life. For instance the Bramcote Village nursery operates a pay as you go system to accommodate shift workers, and the other sites have similar options available”. The buildings provide the highest standard of safety and security. The access to each building is controlled by an electronic latch and closed circuit security cameras are installed throughout. All the nurseries are set in a well established secure grounds with play areas, consisting of lawns and large play grounds. “Our aims are to give the children a good foundation and prepare them for the future, to achieve this we have a team of committed Nursery Nurses to provide a wide range of activities and experiences for all our children to enjoy. We recognise that our staffs are the most valuable resource in the provision of high quality child care; we are therefore committed to a policy of staff development and continued improvement of the quality of care given. In addition to the Nursery staff, we also have a qualified teacher who will spend time with small groups of children from the pre-school unit”. The Nursery operates a Key carer system whereby every child will have a member of staff who will get to know your child well and to whom you can go to with any concerns. Call 0115 922 2454

SAFETY FOR KIDS ON LINE Brooks Computer Solutions recommends that parents take the time to go through the ‘be Smart - be Cool’ rules with their children. Safe - Keep safe by being careful not to give out personal information when you’re chatting or posting online. Personal information includes your email address, phone number and password. Meeting - Meeting someone you have only been in touch with online can be dangerous. Only do so with your parents’ or carers’ permission and even then only when they can be present. Remember online friends are still strangers even if you have been talking to them for a long time. Accepting - Accepting emails, IM messages, or opening files, pictures or texts from people you don’t know or trust can lead to problems – they may contain viruses or nasty messages! Reliable - Someone online might lie about who they are and information on the Internet may not be true. Always check information with other websites, books or someone who knows. If you like chatting online it’s best to only chat to your real world friends and family Tell - Tell your parent, carer or a trusted adult if someone or something makes you feel uncomfortable or worried, or if you or someone you know is being bullied online. Laura from BCS says ‘Viruses can infect your computer without obvious signs. Once activated a virus can access information and devices on your laptop or desktop including personal photos and it’s Webcam. The good news is that up-to-date virus software should block this type of virus. NURSERY Help the Heroes! “At Young Rascals we believe that children’s learning and basic skills for life can be learnt through many different ways. Through topics, games, circle times and activities, the children can learn more about the environment and the world around them. A local soldier came to visit and spoke to the children about his life away from home, how he helps build schools for children who are less fortunate and helping the local people. The children were very interested and asked lots of questions about his uniform and flying in a plane. They also enjoyed trying on his collection of hats and looking at photos he had brought in! We talked to the children about how different a soldier’s life is away from home with regards to sleeping and eating and decided it would be nice to send paintings and gift boxes out to where they are posted. By doing such an activity it helps the children with their communication skills with regards to showing an interest in the world in which they live and commenting on questions asked. The children have built dens inside and outside of the nursery and have used their imagination skills for outdoor living”. EDUCATION “Every parent wants to provide their child with the best educational and developmental opportunities in an environment where they will flourish. Established over 200 years ago, Ockbrook School is skilled at bringing out the best in all our pupils. We welcome pupils from the age of 2 in to our Nursery at the newly renamed Grangemount School (Nursery & Junior School to Ockbrook School) and provide continuing education up to and including the Sixth Form. In addition we offer comfortable and secure boarding facilities for students from the age of 11 in three recently refurbished houses on the school site”. Ockbrook School will be holding two important Information Evenings in October. The “Into the Sixth Form Evening” will be held on Thursday 13th October from 6.30pm. Parents and pupils will be able to find out more about what to expect whilst studying A levels and find out about the vast array of subjects taught. There will be an opportunity to have a tour of the Sixth Form areas and meet with the subject teachers. The A level results this summer were once again very impressive reading with a 98% pass rate and 53% of all A level passes being at A* and A. They had a number of excellent individual results ie. Straight A grades and maximum scores scored on individual papers. The vast majority of our students gained places at their first choice of university. The second Information Evening will be held on Thursday 20th October for parents of pupils in Year 6 and their “Transition into Year 7”. Again you will be able to have a tour of the school and speak with the Year 7 Tutors on the night. Their GCSE results in the summer were once again excellent reading. “We had a 98% pass rate with 56% of all GCSE passes at A*/A and 81% A*- B”. Ockbrook School place value on enjoyment, learning and achievement, whilst understanding that every child is different. “Our small classes are designed to enable teachers to devote time to each individual and we regularly assess their academic needs to ensure that all students reach their full potential. Extra curricular activities are an important part of life at Ockbrook School and we encourage all pupils to get involved with at least one activity from the many and varied we have to offer. Our pupils are keen to get involved with challenging and character building pursuits such as The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme and overseas expedition trips to places such as Borneo and India. The school campus is situated close to the A52 between the cities of Nottingham and Derby, set in rural countryside with excellent public transport links. We also run a number of school buses from the surrounding areas. We accept childcare vouchers and offer a Bursarial Award Scheme with up to 100% of tuition fees being awarded to those parents who would not ordinarily be able to meet the cost of fees, therefore allowing their children access to the provision we have to offer. We are pleased to offer an Open Door Policy* where you can come to view the school during a normal working day at your convenience or we would be happy to give you a more personal tour and/or a taster session upon request”. Open Days are also held on a Saturday in September and March. Further information can be found by visiting the website www.ockbrook.derby.sch.uk or by contacting the Admissions Secretary Jo Fowkes. *Open Door Policy from 10am until 2pm daily; during term time.

straightforward, but when I turned the little lady over to show the audience what to look for, she bit my finger extremely hard. You can’t swear on a live programme with four million viewers – but a little hamster pushed me very close! Working with animals on a live show definitely doesn’t always go to plan.” As well as the lighter side to working as a vet, Marc is a keen supporter of animal welfare projects and has enjoyed volunteering for animal charities working in Mumbai and the Amazon. He also supports a personal campaign against puppy farming in the UK called Pup Aid, raising awareness among prospective dog owners about how to choose a puppy from a reputable rescue home or responsible breeder. “I don’t have any pets at the moment, because I work long hours and it wouldn’t be fair to keep an animal at home all day,” said Marc. “But when I do have the time, I’d like to adopt a dog from The Oldies Club, which finds permanent homes for rescued dogs aged over seven years old. Older dogs make excellent companions, and they are usually very obedient and already house-trained.” The LovePets show will offer a wealth of information on being a responsible petowner, and is supported by The Kennel Club, which will be on-hand to answer questions on choosing the right puppy for your family, to rescuing particular breeds. They will also be promoting the Young Kennel Club for children with an interest in canines. Meanwhile, celebrity dog trainer Karen Wild will be providing masterclasses for those keen to learn the best behaviour techniques, and this year’s Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Pippa Langhorne will be providing musical entertainment by singing with her dog Buddy. LovePets will also feature a fun-filled programme that includes ferret racing and dog agility, as well as fluffy racoons and rabbits in the LovePets Petting Zoo for children, and the chance to encounter scorpions, snakes and spiders with the help of their handlers. Now is the time that the days are getting very noticeably shorter as we head towards those damp nights between now and bonfire night. Here are a few tips to help keep you focussed on enjoying your garden as we journey onwards to the winter season....
Last month we looked at the initial cooling and general changes that plants around the garden must go through as temperatures get lower and our beloved sun starts to hop over the horizon a little sooner than we might wish! It’s certainly not all doom and gloom though - why not extend the pleasure you had whilst planting out your summer baskets & pots? Many people shy away from putting together winter containers which is a great shame, as it's the time of year when we most need the colour and greenery in the garden. The type of container is important: If you are using a wooden one, line it with plastic to stop the wood rotting, whilst fibreglass or plastic containers don’t give plant roots so much protection from frost as a wooden container. You can though, line plastic ones with bubble wrap to help insulate the roots. Don’t forget: terracotta containers must be labelled 'frostproof' or they are prone to crack in the coldest days of the year. Always keep the container off the ground with pot feet or wooden runners which allow for drainage. In terms of types of plants - flowers are colourful but many of them can suffer frost damage. Try giving them some shelter by using tougher, taller foliage plants - at least then if they do get frost damaged, you still have some evergreen plants to maintain the presence of the container or hanging basket. As plant growth slows in winter, they can be put in much closer together in the container than with your summer plants. Put larger plants at the back though as usual.
gardening Winter pansies along with winterblooming heathers and cyclamen can be suitable at the front of a container & dwarf conifers and small shrubs especially those with berries like skimmia or gaultheria, at the back. You can plant a container-grown tree at any time of year for lasting enjoyment. Try a bay tree, a standard holly or a rose that will have glossy winter leaves and, in summer, scented flowers. Great for hanging those outdoor Christmas lights on later in the year! The sharp end of an outdoor cactus garden: Did you know that cactus and succulent species can survive outdoors here in the UK? Did you also know that cactus from live from around twenty five to three hundred years old! The potent drink Tequila is made from a type of cactus (the Agave plant) - so these are a well established plant in human culture worldwide and add a touch of the exotic to any garden. Often seen as only an inside plant, the hardy cactus is capable of giving much needed relief from the drudgery of the winter garden with it’s variety of shapes and textures. Furthermore they are low maintenance provided you take some care over initial planting and subsequent siting. Even in the depth of winter some types of succulents (succulents are types of plants that retain moisture) will flower, including some cactus. How to get growing with cactus & succulents late autumn/early winter: These types of plants need a very open and free-draining compost and a mix suitable for cactus & plants such as aloe vera can be made up very easily by using John Innes No.2 type for seedlings and John Innes No.3 for older plants of around two years or older (ask for these at your local garden or plant centre). THE NITTY GRITTY Mix the compost with horticultural grit using three parts compost and one part grit making sure it’s all evenly mixed together with no clumpy bits that might hold onto the damp (which is why we need the grit in there). Don’t be tempted to use garden soil or old used or stored compost where it may have been lying around for months. You must use proper horticultural grit and not builders grit or sand. Use just the right size for each plant, not too large. Gently pat the compost around the roots, but don’t overdo it - too much pressure is not necessary so keep the compost nice and soft - it will settle when the plant is watered in a few weeks (don’t water immediately). Re-pot no more than once a year into the next size up. Larger plants only need repotting as and when it becomes necessary - if the plant has outgrown the pot or is clearly not thriving any longer. Early Spring - the growing season - is the best time for re-potting. Don’t forget that you don’t water the plant when re-potted until it has settled down for a few weeks

ADVERTORIAL
LET YOUR HOME MAKE YOU MONEY Solar PV or ‘Photo Voltaic’ panels are like little electricity generators on your roof, they capture the sun light and turn it in to electricity which you can use or sell back to the electricity company. Feed in tariffs are payments of 43.3p/KWh (index linked) or unit of electricity generated on your roof. You are then free to use it cutting your electricity bill or sell it back to the electricity company, so you are getting paid twice. This sounds too good to be true but the government have introduced these measures in order to attract large numbers of people across the country to install their own generators (solar pv) and help them meet their climate change targets. These payments are government guaranteed for the next twenty five years. • Start reducing your electricity bills immediately • Make you 43.3p per unit up to 3’400 Kwh (units) per year. * • The electricity you do not use goes into the national grid and you are paid approximately 3.1p per unit. • You also do not have to pay for electricity you have produced so there is a saving of another £250 per year on your electricity bill.* • A total saving of up to £1’760 per year.* • A reduction of CO2 produced by this clean green solar system by approximately 30 tonnes over 25 years. *(Dependant on the size of system and orientation)

Castlefield Kennels are appealing once again for dogs currently looking for new homes. If you can help why not get in touch...
l breeze appea
Whitey is a tubby female Staffie aged 2-3 years old she has been in since August and all the staff are really desperate to see her in a loving family environment she is such a gentle natured dog. Tequila is a female Staffie x she’s only a baby about 12- 20 weeks and this is such an important time for her in her development she really doesn’t need to be stuck in a kennel, she’s been in since August. Dubonnet and Drambuie are 2 female wire coated Jack Russell’s aged 18 months-2 years old, we believe they are sisters and ideally it would be great if they could go to the same home, but we are realistic and are prepared to separate them if it means they get a new home. Cola is a male Shar-pei aged 12 – 18 months he has the best character and is so loving, he must be the only pet though, and we would like Cola to go to a home that has got experience with this breed.
Castlefield has been doing rescue work now since 2000, working with various councils over the years and some charities to try and find dogs loving new homes. “We are not really well know in the “Rescue” world and just want to promote the kennels a little more. The amount of dogs goes up year by year and we don’t think it will ever stop since January 2011 we have had in over 500 dogs luckily most of them get reclaimed but the rest we have to find good homes for. We are by no means a big rescue but that is still a huge number of dogs looking for new homes, and we want to get it right for them the second time round. We also have a male Large crossbreed aged 9 months -1 year looking for a new home, a female Border Terrier aged 2-4 years old, a Wire fox terrier aged 4-6 years old that was in a terrible state when he came into kennels, and 2 female Labs 1 chocolate and the other is yellow they came in together Coco is 2-4 year old the yellow 1 who we have named Chamie is aged 5-7 years old. We believe that back street breeders are a huge part of the problem, they are not like reputable breeders who breed and sell dogs for the sheer love of the breed. Back street breeders don’t care about the dogs they are breeding with, who they are selling the pups to they are just in it for the money and that is why 80% of rescues up and down the country are full, and they are mostly staffies or some sort of bull breed, they are one of the most popular breeds of pet, but also are the hardest to rehome especially from a rescue centre, they are seen as nasty temperamental stubborn and vicious dogs, and in some cases this can be true but it’s not just a trait in Staffies any dog can be nasty if they are not raised properly. The public don’t get to see the loving, loyal and utter stupidity of a Staffie they really are a lovely breed , and I know most people reading this will of made their own opinion on certain breeds and that’s fine, but if I can change the opinion of 1 person it will be worth it”. Visit their web site www.castlefieldkennels.co.uk click on the adopt a stray section which will have all the dogs on looking for a new home. They also have a Facebook page Castlefield dog rescue, were there are photos of dogs currently looking for a new home Castlefield Kennels, 261 High Lane East, West Hallam Ilkeston Derbyshire DE7 6HZ Tel: 0115-9322763 e-mail: kennels@castlefield.co.uk

l a e p p a e z e e r b Santas: on your marks, get set, go! This year hundreds of Santas will be running, jogging or walking around a town near you in a series of festive fun runs, all in aid of children’s hospices. Santas on the Run is a national series of fun runs which sees national charity Children’s Hospices UK and children’s hospices throughout the country working together to raise awareness and vital funds. Adults and children of all ages and abilities are invited to dress up as Santa and take part to raise money for their local children’s hospice. By taking part this year you can help make a real difference to children’s hospices and the families they support. Donations go directly to the children’s hospice organising the event to help ensure that seriously ill children and their families have the care and support they need. The runs take place during November and December and are a chance to have fun, get fit and most importantly get into the Christmas spirit! It couldn’t be easier to take part; simply register for your nearest run and start raising your sponsorship. To find out if Santa is coming to a town near you visit www.santasontherun.org.uk
Children’s Hospices UK Children’s Hospices UK wants the best possible care for children and young people who are not expected to reach adulthood and their families. We support all children’s hospice services by campaigning and lobbying governments to ensure their voice is heard; helping their care staff to continue to be at the cutting edge of children’s hospice care; making everyone aware of their vital work; and raising funds to ensure they are sustainable. About children’s hospice services It’s every parent’s worst nightmare to be told their child will die before them. But for an estimated 23,500 families across the UK, this is a reality. Some of these children will die when they’re very young; others will deteriorate slowly over a number of years. In most cases, full-time care falls to the parents – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Not surprisingly the whole family is under huge emotional, physical and financial strain. Children’s hospice services help children and families in these situations with the emotional and physical challenges they face, helping them to make the most of life. They welcome the whole family for a break in a home-from-home environment or in the comfort of their own home. They also offer a diverse range of other services including symptom control, end-of-life care, the provision of therapies (such as play, art and music therapy) and bereavement support for all family members. There are 42 children's hospices in operation across the UK and a further three in development. Each service is an independent charity which relies on public support to continue their work.
