santa run

Raising money for When You Wish Upon a Star, the Great Nottingham Santa Run is definitely a day for your diary this month...

When You Wish Upon a Star charity grants wishes for children living with a life threatening illness between the ages of 2-16. Every year the charity takes 100’s of children on a truly magical trip to Lapland to meet Father Christmas. The cost of the trip is £90,000, each child and guardian costing £900. This is such a magical trip for the children and their parents to see their little girl or little boy having fun in the snow and meeting Father Christmas. Being able to spend some quality time as a family away from their treatments and hospital visits, seeing their child laughing and giggling with their little red noses and rosy cheeks is so special and very heart warming. You can help by taking part in The Great Nottingham Santa Run at the Forest Recreation Ground on Sunday 14th December 2014 with family, friends, groups or work colleagues. The Nottingham Santa Run is a 2.5km & 5km sponsored run, jog or walk. Entry costs £10 per adult and £5.00 per child (under 12) which includes a Santa suit for adults, and an Elf hat for children plus a medal for everyone. “Come along and join in the festive fun and visit our Christmas Stalls and take part in our Zumba Warm Up. All funds raised will enable us to make a huge difference to the lives of these extraordinarily brave and courageous children, who have faced so much in their young lives”. Registration is NOW OPEN. breeze recipe Christmas celebrations bring family and friends together for festive food but keeping all your guests happy at Christmas can be tricky. Don’t worry help is at hand... Alex Connell, Principal Tutor at the Vegetarian Society’s cookery school says, “As a veggie I want to enjoy a festive feast with all the trimmings and flavour you’d expect, but just no meat thanks. For anyone new to the wonderful world of a veggie Christmas, or if you are catering for a veggie for the first time, I’ve put a few tips together to help. We’ve also new recipes and old favourites at www.vegsoc.org/christmas for all your Christmas cooking.” Five festive feasting tips from Alex: Rosemary roasties! Roast spuds in olive oil, with a sprig of rosemary, a twist of rock salt and a squeeze of lemon for a deliciously delicate roastie with a light, fluffy centre. Make lots though as everyone loves them. Tasty trimmings - Veggie sausages are widely available, you can roast these until they are nearly cooked then wrap in veggie “bacon” or sundried tomatoes. Secure with a cocktail stick and continue to cook for 5 minutes. Noël nut roast - As a vegetarian alternative, the nut roast has become a popular choice. Delicious hot or cold, and even good in a butty. Making your own is straightforward, easier still with a food processor. Simply take nuts, a few mushrooms, breadcrumbs, herbs, grated vegetarian cheese, a couple of free range eggs, a stock cube and a splash of soy sauce. Whizz it up and place in a lined loaf tin and bake in the oven for 40 minutes and you won’t go far wrong. Gallons of gravy and a sack full of stuffing – Gravy and stuffing can really make a roast dinner, especially at Christmas. Instant veggie gravy and stuffing is readily available or visit www.vegsoc.org/christmas for homemade ideas. Magnificent main – Not taken with nut roast? Try the Vegetarian Society’s simple yet very tasty Butternut bell or tempt your taste buds with Smoky leek, harissa and hazelnut tart. Visit www.vegsoc.org/christmas for the recipes, you’ll also find seasonal stacks, perfect pies, parcels and all you need for festive feasting. More tips and lots of festive recipes are available at www.vegsoc.org/christmas - everything from the simple to the gourmet. The Cordon Vert cookery school, part of the Vegetarian Society, is the world's premier vegetarian cookery school. Cordon Vert teaches both the general public and professionals the many aspects of vegetarian cuisine through workshops held at our cookery school in Altrincham. Our courses are open to everyone, whether vegetarian or not. Find out more at www.cordonvert.co.uk

breeze what’s on Long Eaton Operatic Society’s Youth Group Proudly Presents - Bugsy Malone Get your tickets early to avoid disappointment!

A popular, pint-sized, pin-striped classic leaps off the silver screen and onto the Duchess Theatre stage in Bugsy Malone, a tongue-in-cheek tribute to the gangster films of the 1920s. Based on the hit 1976 film starring Jodi Foster and featuring an appealing and swinging score and libretto by Paul Williams, Bugsy Malone is good, clean, hilarious fun! Two gangs of children, in a fictitious city comprised completely of children, are in a 1920s rivalry of Al Capone-style standards. Dandy Dan’s gang has the upper hand since getting their hands on the “splurge” gun - a weapon that shoots an avalanche of sprayed foam! This puts Fat Sam and his bumbling buffoons in real trouble! Bugsy Malone, a one-time boxer, is thrust, not-so-willingly, into the gangster limelight, when he becomes the last chance Fat Sam’s gang has of surviving. All Bugsy really wants to do is spend time with his new love, Blousey, but that just isn’t going to come true for our hero. Bugsy Malone is a fantastic choice for our youth group as it is a master class in musical comedy. Just imagine how delightful it is when it’s brought to life by a group of extremely talented young people! The show takes place from Thursday 19th to Saturday 21st February 2015, starting at 7.30pm with a matinee performance on Saturday at 2.30pm. Tickets are priced £7 and £6 available now from 07864 033663, Ticketsource (www.duchess-theatre.com) or directly from the Duchess Theatre at their regular Saturday coffee mornings.

raising the roof!

breeze promotion

“Hi my name is Simon Wilkes I am the owner of S&A Property Maintenance, we are a local company based in Nuthall and have been successfully trading in and around Nottingham for over ten years. After many years covering all the various trades and skills needed to maintain private and commercial property we are now offering a new service... So many people come to us asking for a solution to a noisy, cold damp conservatory in winter that turns into an indoor green house in the summer that is too hot to use. So here is the answer! We can insulate your conservatory roof and form a ceiling onto the pre-existing structure that once decorated, you will have a ceiling like any other in your house. Not only will it be cooler in the summer, maintain the heat in the winter and reduce the rain noise dramatically, it is also energy efficient and will reduce your fuel bills for the future allowing you to use your conservatory 365 days a year while saving you money. This work is done with minimal disruption, usually over a two day period and all the work is carried out by us. Call now for a free quotation and advice or to arrange viewing our show home”.

breeze appeal Looking for advice on how to keep your children safe online, ChildLine are campaigning to raise awareness and change the law... A national YouGov poll, which included 154 people from the East Midlands (which includes Nottinghamshire*), found that nearly three out of four adults believe it is already illegal for someone over 18 to send a sexual message to a child under 16 – when in fact no such specific offence exists. Over eight out of ten people polled by YouGov said they would support a change in the law and the NSPCC is now urging the public to back its campaign by signing an online petition. A ChildLine base in the East Midlands (Nottingham) counselled 208 children about online sexual abuse last year. One teenage girl told ChildLine: “I use this online site to talk to other people my age from around the world. Most of the time its fine but there’s an older man who has managed to get on there. He kept sending me disgusting messages so I blocked him but he keeps adding me from different accounts. It’s stressing me out and what he says to me is gross. I want to talk to my parents about it but I think they’d overreact and stop me from using the site so I don’t know what to do?” Sandra McNair, NSPCC Midlands Regional Head of Services for Children and Families, said: “No adult should be deliberately sending sexual messages to children, but incredibly it is not always illegal. Existing laws are a hotch-potch and sex offenders can and do exploit the loopholes.3

breezemagazine22

“The rise of online communication means that children are increasingly being exposed to sexual messages from adults, on social networks or through messaging apps, but in many cases the police are powerless to act.” “Currently, old laws are being stretched to fit new paedophile behaviour. The Serious Crime Bill now being debated in Parliament is a unique opportunity to tailor the law to better protect children from sexual abuse. And we need the public to get behind our Flaw in the Law campaign.” There have been reported convictions of adults in Scotland for communicating sexually with children under the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act 2009. However, the NSPCC believes that under the current law in England, Wales and Northern Ireland it is unlikely that similar cases would have led to a criminal prosecution, unless the abuse had escalated. People can find out more about the NSPCC campaign and sign the petition at www.nspcc.org.uk/flaw and join the debate on social media at #FlawedLaw Anyone looking for advice about keeping children safe online, or concerned about the safety and welfare of a child, can contact the NSPCC’s 24-hour helpline on 0808 800 5000 or email help@nspcc.org.uk Children worried about online safety or any other problem can call the free, 24-hour helpline on 0800 1111 or get help online at www.childline.org.uk

breeze appeal Twelve artists from around the country have teamed up to produce a range of Christmas cards where the beneficiary charity, Action Medical Research, receives ALL of the money. Designers, printers and even envelope makers have all collaborated and donated their services for free to ensure the charity receives every penny from every card sold. A similar initiative last year raised £13,000 for the children’s charity.

The idea to publish 12 different packs of Christmas cards, with the charity benefiting from the entire retail price, is the brainchild of Lynn Tait. Lynn, a gallery owner in Leigh on Sea, has owned a greeting card business for more than 20 years. A long-standing supporter of the children’s charity, Lynn again this year invited 12 Ladder Club attendees to design and donate an exclusive piece of artwork for the venture. The Ladder Club seminars are crash-courses in greeting card publishing run on a not-for-profit basis by Lynn. Lynn Tait, commented: “After the great success of last year’s initiative raising £13,000 and the wonderful comments from people who bought the cards in 2013, I am very excited to be working with these new artists who have designed a varied collection of lovely cards with every penny going to Action Medical Research. Please support the charity and help us reach our target of £15,000.” Artists who have donated their artwork for the cards include: Aianna, Dry Red Press, I Drew This, Lorraine Stylianou, Molly Mae, Olivia Goddard Designs, Perkins and Morley, Pink Pig Art, Red Berry Hill, Rose Hill Designs, The Bees Knees, Trumpers World. Nicole Orsi, who designed one of the cards from Red Berry Hill, commented: “I was very excited when I got the call from Lynn to participate in this project and felt very privileged to have been asked. It is such a great idea to take twelve members of the Ladder Club to produce a range of Christmas cards for Action Medical Research. I am proud to support this project and I have really enjoyed producing a design for this wonderful charity.” Sherwood Press, The Imaging Centre, Enveco and G F Smith have all agreed to donate their services for free to produce the cards. The cards are available to buy from the Action Medical Research website: http://www.action.org.uk/christmas_cards All of the money raised will help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Medical research can save and change children’s lives. Yet surprisingly, medical research into conditions that devastate children’s lives is poorly funded. Action Medical Research is currently supporting work around stillbirth, epilepsy, meningitis, cerebral palsy and brain cancer, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.

Take care with floral arrangements and plants especially if you have cats; all Lillies are toxic to cats and the pollen can easily get on their coats if they brush past an arrangement, they can then ingest the toxins when they groom themselves. Ponsiettas are also a common addition to the home at Christmas they are toxic to your pet if ingested. Many households hang chocolate treats on the tree or wrap presents containing chocolate and place them underneath the tree. Chocolate is poisonous to dogs and cats it contains a substance called theobromine. Dark chocolate is the worst as it contains a greater concentration of theobromine. Dogs especially are attracted to the smell of chocolate treats. It is important not to leave any chocolate treats in reach of pets, remember to shut them out of the room where the tree is when you go to bed or go out. Cats love to play with string and tinsel is even more attractive as it sparkles. So again take care not to leave them unattended with the Christmas tree decorations. Tinsel can get stuck in the digestive tract if ingested causing serious problems for your pet and often requiring an operation to remove it. If you have a “real” Christmas tree then be careful to pick up any dropping needles as they can get stuck in your pets paws. Pine trees can also be a cause of skin irritation in pets with skin allergies. A lot of us like a “tipple” at Christmas, but remember not to leave your glass unattended, as often dogs will “finish off” your beverage, pets have a low tolerance for alcohol and it can damage the liver.

breeze appeal Sammy is a happy and cheeky six year old. However, he has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a devastating muscle-wasting condition, for which there are no current treatments or cures. So on Friday 5th December Sammy's primary school and schools nationwide will be having cake sales to help raise vital funds for our Duchenne Research Breakthrough Fund. From the outset Sammy de Laszlo looks like any other 5 year old, happily playing with his favourite cars, or trying to chase his elder brother Thomas (8) in the park. It’s only when you notice he’s not able to keep up with his brother, that you start to notice he is unique. Hiding underneath his adorable cheeky smile lies a severe muscle wasting condition. Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disorder that affects children around the world. One in 3,500 boys are born with it. People that suffer from the condition can’t produce dystrophin, a protein you need to build up your muscles. As a result, every muscle in the body deteriorates. “I remember the day he was diagnosed, Easter 2012 as it is etched in my mind, and still haunts me, to this day. While families were surrounded by Easter Eggs, we were at and getting the results from a previous test. I remember thinking and saying to my wife Tricia that it will be fine as being a Bank Holiday the labs will be closed and the results won’t be ready. How wrong was I? Within twenty minutes of walking out of the hospital with the devastating news of his diagnosis. My mobile phone rung, it was planning to arrange to meet us two days later. That was the start of what can only be described as a long roller coaster. Thankfully we have been blessed with a fantastic army of physios, clinicians, one to one support in school, and speech and language therapists. As like any parent you want the best for your child so making sure Sammy had the right support was fundamental. Sammy has learnt to cope with all his appointments. Sammy is able to do a lot more than he was a year ago. Things like climbing on a climbing frame in a playground, are often taken for granted. However Sammy was not able to do this until a year ago, but the course of steroids he takes to help prolong his mobility, have allowed him a chance to experience these everyday activities.

breezemagazine 32

As at present there is no cure for the condition. He also wears his night splints at night, to keep his feet at right angles and from having contractures. Watching Sammy’s development is like any parent watching their children develop, fantastic! He’s incredibly determined and a little fighter. His speech and language have come on leaps and bounds, which has been a real blessing now that he is in school. Speech and language delay is common with kids with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. His love of cars has grown, he now is a devoted Top Gear fan like his Dad. Although it is very encouraging and positive to watch him develop in both school and in his mobility, however we as his parents have the harsh realisation that over time that the condition will progress and he could potentially be in a wheel chair by the age of 9. So making the most of his life and enjoying the moment is fundamental. When you also realise that the life expectancy of an adult with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is between 27 - 30, Sammy is effectively living on borrowed time. No child or adult deserves to have their lives cut short, so it’s time to act now! One of the things we have noticed over the last two and a half years is that there is not enough awareness of this condition. We have made it our mission to help raise awareness of this condition and funds for medical research related to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. And help other children like Sammy with this condition and their families in getting the support they need. We are teaming up with the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign and Tinies the largest ChildCare provider in the UK. We’ve invited over 5000 primary schools to take part in a Nationwide Cake Sale on 5th December 2014. No one has ever attempted a cake sale on this scale as, the sheer logistics are colossal, but the more schools who get involved the better, we wanted to make it a fun way for children and families to get involved. The Muscular Dystrophy Campaign is the UK’s leading charity dedicated to beating muscle-wasting conditions by finding treatments and cures, as well as improving the lives of everyone affected by them. Our aim is to help raise awareness and around £500,000 for medical research. We would be very grateful for your support, and helping to support this charity and being part of what will be a fabulous day in helping to raise awareness and funds for medical research for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Together with your schools help we will be helping to change the lives of people like Sammy living with Muscle wasting conditions. If you would like to organise a cake sale at your child’s school please go to www.muscular-dystrophy.org/cakesale

festive shelter... Are you one of those people who likes to pop out into the garden and grab a breather from all the indoor festivities? Why not create a little Winter haven for those precious moments of refreshment and peace? Christmas can be such a lovely time - a part of the year when we have the excuse to chill out with friends and family. We all need a little space though sometimes, and this makes us better to be with, somehow more relaxed and calmer. So why not create that little sheltered spot for short stints in the garden? Let’s take a look:

underneath them. Use another tarp to make sides which block the wind - and can be moved to suit. These only have to hang like outdoor curtains on a strong guyline. There are eyelet kits that are easy to use if you need more eyelets to thread onto the guyline. Find old fallen branches from your nearest woodland and make simple natural looking props to help support it or existing walls/structures such as a shed to fix hooks. If you want to quickly transform a slightly boggy part of the garden then here’s an inexpensive refinement: simply add one or two used wooden pallets and paint them with an outdoor coloured paint! Now you have your very oXO recycled patio area and it really can look good if you put sides onto the pallets so it ‘dresses them’. It really is that simple and gives you more of a light construction project to do in the garden when things are quiet in other ways.

Simple Shelter You can buy ready made canvas ‘tarps’ that come with eyelets and often their own guy ropes: inexpensive and they can look so inviting when set up in a corner of the garden with some mood lighting

Sturdy Shelter Using standard shed building materials and railways sleepers/heavy wooden battens it is easy for even a fairly modest diy’er to create a lovely seated area with four upright posts to support a heavy duty

breezemagazine34

canvas tarp which wilM be secure against even heavy winds provided it is not too big (to cover about two to three people). Stacked up, the railway sleepers are bolted together using large wood threaded hex bolts (like a normal bolt but design to screw into thick wood and very strong). More expensive than the simple tarp idea described earlier but by no means prohibitively expensive and will last many years if correctly built. The beauty of these simple structures (especially the first one) is that they are quick to put up and yet are strong enough to stay up several months or even years. They can be even more fun if you use safe outdoor battery or low voltage lights or even candles if placed with care in a holder. Christmas lights and decorations can be added to brighten them up on a dark night. All you need is a nice warm drink and some good company and you have the recipe for an atmospheric Christmas this year - why not try it? Go on! As always, make sure you keep happy in the garden and Enjoy this Christmas!

CHRISTMAS QUIZ FOR ANIMAL CHARITY WITH MULLED WINE AND MINCE PIES The team at Churchcroft Vets are holding a fun, animal-based quiz with a few animal health questions to see who is the cleverest of clever clogs. In addition, homemade Mince Pies and Mulled wine will be served to everyone to boost that festive feeling. All money raised will be used to fund care for injured or stray pets via the charity Animal Accident Rescue. Questions last year ranged from the name of the city which has banned dogs over a certain height, to the frequency of Tortoiseshell cats being male. There will be some easy questions and some stinkers too. Why not get in the Christmas Spirit with a little light-hearted exercise of the grey matter and raise money for an excellent charity at the same time? Just head down to Churchcroft Vets after work (7.30pm-8.30pm) on Thursday Dec 18th and join the fun. Hint to those attending—some of the questions will relate to Churchcroft’s Facebook posts during 2014 which you can see on their timeline. Churchcroft are open from 8am to 7pm Monday to Friday and from 8.30am to 12.30pm on Saturdays. Call Churchcroft on 0115 922 4855

YOUR MONTH AHEAD

ARIES [March 21st-April 20th] December looks as though it has some interesting challenges for you. Loosing patience with one person you decide to use different tactics and this causing minor shock treatment works. Finances may take a dip through no fault of your own but it doesn’t take long for you to sort matters out. Meeting up with old friends interesting.

CANCER [June 22nd-July 23rd] With plenty to think about December becomes more than hectic one way or another. Taking time out you plan a surprise for those you love making sure beforehand your secret is kept. Splashing out on something new pleases yet careful with the pennies You enjoy entertaining rather than accepting one special invitation. News from afar

TAURUS [April 21st-May 20th] Being drawn into something your not happy about causes friction between two people. However standing your ground they get the picture and back off. Romance takes a turn for the better when least expected. Using your initiative you speed things up and gain recognition for something well done. You give yourself the space needed.

LEO [July 24th-August 23rd] Personal life takes a turn for the better with a deeper understanding of partners needs. Change in the working life sparks ideas, which could put you on the right road to success. Travelling to and fro for short time pays off with future gains likely. Younger members of the family show their strength with discussions regarding changes made.

GEMINI [May 21st-June 21st] Unable to make your mind up as to the future you decide to keep with what you’re used to and build on existing foundations. Any arguments within your circle of friends are seen as a learning curb, especially when others interfere and may well draw you in. Taking more control of your life you begin to stand up for yourself and others.

VIRGO [August 24th-Sept 23rd] Sensitive and caring you show your strength by helping a friend or family member through a difficult time. Once sorted you concentrate on things in hand. Loved ones leave you to it because of your capabilities. Treating yourself to something special highlights one particular day when out and about. It pays to read the small print.

LIBRA [Sept 24th-October 22nd] The realisation someone is telling the truth knocks you for six. Taking matters in hand helps another. Focused and with a possible goal in mind you set out to achieve your ambition. An admirer makes himself or herself known, and a friendship develops. Keeping a watchful eye on finances pays off. Updating important paperwork pays. SCORPIO [October 23rd-Nov 22nd] Romance is well on the cards for most. If you play your cards right those who are single will no longer be. Time is limited with a hectic schedule but you do allow moments of pleasure to interfere with this. Unfinished jobs in and around the home take longer than expected. In a hurry items are mislaid but found when least expected. SAGITTARIUS [Nov 23rd-Dec 22nd] Determined that you have time for you and your family days and dates are altered to suit your requirements. Taking on extra responsibilities helps others to cope but causes friction elsewhere. Careful not to burn your candles at both ends you adapt to changes making life easier. Finances could get a boost if you play your cards right.

AQUARIUS [January 21st-Feb 19th] Consideration is given in one area of your life to which you feel needs a little improvement. Adjustments are made and the benefits are felt all round. Stronger than ever your happy when someone meets you half way improving one situation. Making more time for yourself you meet new and interesting people in unfamiliar places. PISCES [February 20th-March 20th] Independent and capable you tackle Christmas head on. Any recent upset with family or friends you push aside. To celebrate the centenary of the start of World War I, all of the children here at Beeston Rylands Junior School decided to replicate the poppy display at the Tower of London. Each class made poppies using red card for the petals, which were then laminated, a green plant supporter as the stem and cork painted black for the middle of the poppy. The children enjoyed creating the poppies and each class planted them in a grassy area next to our playground. “We had a minute silence next to the display on Tuesday 11 November. breeze what’s on

Visitors to Chatsworth this Christmas should prepare to head down the rabbit hole and through the looking glass as this year’s Christmas theme takes inspiration from the vivid and fantastical world created by author Lewis Carroll in his classic ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ Fifty-two Christmas trees and 900,000 fairy lights will ensure Chatsworth dazzles with lots of traditional Christmas sparkle. Inside the house, 18 fir trees will be adorned with 6,000 tree ornaments. Preparations for this year’s Christmas started almost a year ago, with the staff at Chatsworth creating most of the wonderful displays and costumes in-house. Head housekeeper Christine Robinson said: “Teams from the textiles department, carpenters, painters and housekeepers have been working all year to create the individual displays to bring the theme to life. This year, we have a giant rabbit’s burrow for the White Rabbit, costumes for visitors to try on and a magical hall of mirrors as visitors journey with Alice through her dream of a Chatsworth wonderland.” Chatsworth is extending its Christmas opening period this year and re-opening the house, garden and farmyard after Christmas for visitors to enjoy over the remaining school holiday period. The house will be closed on Dec 24, 25 and 26, and re-open on Dec 27 until 31 December, and from 2 to 4 January 2015. Chatsworth will be expecting grins as wide as a Cheshire Cat as visitors are taken on a magical journey through the lower floors of the house. The interiors are transformed to recreate classic scenes from the enduringly popular story of a girl named Alice, who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar creatures such as the White Rabbit, the Mad Hatter, a sleepy Dormouse and the Queen of Hearts. On arrival, the North Entrance Hall will be dressed to create the illusion of tumbling down the rabbit hole into Wonderland, where visitors will encounter the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party; the Game of Croquet, and the table with the infamous ‘Drink Me’ bottle and ‘Eat Me’ cake. Playing Card Soldiers, White Rabbits, and Tweedledum and Tweedledee costumed guides will be on hand to direct visitors through to majestic woodland scene. There, a giant Caterpillar will be smoking his pipe on top of an oversized mushroom as psychedelic sitar music plays. Classic lines from the book are on show en route while sounds include the White Rabbit muttering ‘I’m late, I’m late’ or Alice crying out ‘Curiouser and Curiouser’ add to the feeling of entering the disorientating story. Always popular with children - and grown-ups too - is the opportunity to get into character themselves by dressing up in some of the Alice in Wonderland themed costumes, made by the Chatsworth Textiles team, in the Inner Court Marquee. The Painted Hall is the perfect setting for the extravagant Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. The huge dining room table will be adorned with dozens of tea cups, saucers, cake stands, and even an over-sized steaming teapot. The displays will also feature traditional Christmas elements, with numerous fir trees and Christmas garlands adorned with baubles and fairy lights. This year’s theme extends to farmyard and adventure playground with Alice in Wonderland themed craft activities in the Christmas marquee where little ones can make a mad hat, white rabbit ears, teapot card or a traditional reindeer headband. Magician Professor Shell will be making rabbits disappear while the popular nativities featuring the farmyard animals and young visitors take place on weekends in December. This is offered on a first come first served basis and will incur an additional £2.50. Chatsworth is extending its Christmas opening period this year. The house, garden and farmyard will be open after Christmas from Dec 27 to 4 January 2015 (closed Dec 25, 26 and Jan 1). For information on opening times, advance tickets, prices and other events, please visit www.chatsworth.org
