We know fairly early on that there is a plan for a murder and we see the murder committed right in front of our eyes! The plot asks so many questions – Why? What is the real motive? DENTURES THAT PERFORM MORE LIKE NATURAL TEETH
breeze advertising feature
Patient’s from all over the East Midlands are travelling to Sunshine Dental Practice and Implant Centre in Long Eaton, Nottingham to consult its denture expert, Roddy Patterson. Roddy is at the forefront of dentistry, working as a Clinical Dental Technician - still a relatively unknown profession, that offers huge benefits to patients requiring new dentures. Roddy provides the very best standards of care, creating precision – crafted removable dentures that incorporate factors such as the wearers’ age, personality and gender. As well as restoring the smile, Sunshine Dental complete dentures also offer a dual effect by adding volume and correcting the proportions of the face, so dentures wearers achieve a more natural, youthful look. Through the use of dental implants Roddy can create dentures that when expertly fitted perform like natural teeth.
Roddy Patterson Clinical Dental Technician Dip CDT RCS (Eng)
We caught up with Roddy and asked him a few questions What is a Clinical Dental Technician and does every practice have one? The role of a Clinical Dental Technician (CDT) sits somewhere between that of a dentist who would usually take the impressions for new dentures, and that of a dental technician who receives the impression from the dentist and then makes the dentures without ever meeting the patient. The CDT fulfils both roles, taking the impressions and making and fitting the dentures. There are only a few hundred of us working in the UK so you won’t see many working in dental practices. If a patient still has natural teeth, do they need to see a dentist before you make a denture?
Illustration of dental implants helping a lower denture perform like natural teeth Patients requiring partial dentures who also suffer from problems such as gum disease, tooth loss, failing crowns and bridges, plus loose teeth, can see the practice’s dentist, Vishal Rana. Following initial discussions and investigation of each patient’s dental history, he will conduct a thorough oral examination and create a comprehensive treatment plan. Roddy qualified as a Dental Technician in 1980 and has owned a highly regarded dental laboratory for over thirty years. Seeing the increasing demand for high-quality dentures, he studied for an advanced diploma in Toronto, Canada before completing a two year diploma in Clinical Dental Technology, graduating from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. This prestigious qualification enables him to use his experience and expertise as a Dental Technician to treat patients face to face. You can access Roddy’s skills directly by calling the number below.
A CDT can directly treat, create and fit a complete set of dentures to patients who have experienced total tooth loss. If a patient has some natural teeth remaining and needs partial dentures they must be seen or referred by a dentist before treatment can be given. In this situation, I need to know that the foundations of the patient’s mouth and natural teeth can support the type of precision dentures I provide. By working closely with a dentist, I can get the best out of even a few remaining teeth to stabilise the dentures. Patients seem to have big problems with their lower denture always moving about. Can anything be done to help? It may be that they could benefit from replacing the denture with a better fitting one, but in my experience just two dental implants fitted by an implant dentist like Vishal Rana, will provide patients with a long term solution. Dental implants are proven to make lower dentures more secure, helping overcome the social and physical limitations experienced by complete denture wearers.
Roddy offers FREE introductory consultations for those interested in his services.

LET THE MAGIC BEGIN
A little preparation can go a long way and that’s why, with months to go until Christmas, slimmers have decided it is time to spread some festive cheer ahead of schedule.
Christmas is coming early for members of local Slimming World groups as they embark on their annual seasonal slim down. Their twelve-week mission to lose weight in time for Christmas and the New Year is part of a campaign running across all 16,000 Slimming World groups in the UK and Ireland called Believe…in a Slimming World Christmas – let the magic begin. The aim of the drive is to help the organisation’s 900,000 members enjoy their healthiest Christmas ever. To mark the start of the campaign local Slimming World groups will be throwing the first Christmas party of 2016, complete with Christmas decorations and delicious (healthy) party food – much of it prepared from Slimming World’s new Christmas recipe book, Festive Feasts. Parties will be held at across groups during w/c 10th October – and you’re invited! Local consultants say “Christmas is a magical time of year and the weeks running up to it are often full of fun celebrations. If you’re feeling unhappy with your weight though, it can also be a very challenging time – from hating the way you look in every party
outfit to feeling uncomfortable and out of place at events. And, if you’ve already embarked on your journey, you might worry that the busy run-up to Christmas, temptations of the next few months, and the cold weather that often means we’re less inclined to be active could derail your weight-loss campaign and that you’ll end up reaching January struggling even more with your weight. “However, we know that by sharing ideas and keeping each other motivated every week in our groups, members can stay on track and achieve their goals. Believe…in a Slimming World Christmas – let the magic begin aims to show everyone that when they believe in themselves and get the right support it’s possible to stay focused and lose weight beautifully whatever the time of year. “Members won’t have to miss out on the magic of the season either. Each week in our group we’ll share recipes, advice and ideas for coping with potential challenges, from Christmas parties to shopping trips, and help one another to enjoy the fun of the festive season while still achieving our dreams. By making great choices, you could easily be a stone – or even two – lighter by January 2017…and wouldn’t that be the best present you give yourself this Christmas!” If you’d like to join any of the local groups on their seasonal slim down you still can. And, as an extra-early Christmas gift, anyone who signs up to 12 weeks of Slimming World support between Monday 10th and Saturday 29th October will get two weeks free (twelve for the price of ten) and a free copy of Festive Feasts, which is packed full of delicious festive dishes and worth £4.95.

FIREWORKS – DON’T LET YOUR DOG SUFFER NEEDLESSLY Guy Fawkes night is coming with what is usually a couple of weeks of fireworks. Unfortunately, it’s a rubbish time of year for many dogs and cats who are petrified of the bangs and flashes. Some dogs in particular are very fearful and will cower under the bed or destroy the sofa as a consequence. Remember, if your dog is scared enough to be trembling or hiding away he or she is having a terrible time. At Chuchcroft Vets, senior vet George says “We hate to think of all these terrified dogs and cats. There are some simple steps that pet owners can take such as only walking their dogs in the middle of the day when fireworks are unlikely and keeping the curtains drawn all evening. However, there is much more that can be done too. By preparing in advance, rearranging the house in a certain way and using gentle but effective medicines, we can help pets (and therefore their owners) to have a much less stressful time.” To make sure everyone gets the best advice, Churchcroft Vets are offering FREE CONSULTATIONS for all pet owners to consider the best way to support their pets during fireworks season. Just call Churchcroft on 0115 922 4855 and arrange a time for a veterinary consultation to discuss how to keep your pet feeling safe.

Beeston Wildlife Group, new talk season THE HOVERFLY, A MASTER OF MIMICRY– A TALK BY FRANCIS GILBERT 17th October 2016, 7.30PM - 9.30PM Trent Vale Infants School, Trent Road, Beeston Rylands, Nottingham NG9 1LP
About the talk About a quarter of the 600 species of European hoverflies are mimics of bees or wasps. Some are spectacular mimics that even experts struggle to distinguish in the field, whilst others fool few with any experience. Why is there this spectrum of mimic quality? This talk will explore possible reasons together with the latest evidence. About the speaker “I was turned on to the beauty and charm of hoverflies as an undergraduate, and have researched the evolution of their biology and behaviour for more than 40 years, nearly all based at Nottingham University. My other passion is for the conservation biology of South Sinai in Egypt - a hyperarid mountain landscape in the driest country on earth where there are no hoverflies!”

planting time Plan ahead if you intend to fill your garden with colour next Spring... As bulbs have a requirement for a long period of cool temperatures to spark their growth process that causes them to flower, it’s essential to plant them two seasons before they flower if they are spring flowering. You need to plant bulbs from October to December, before the first frost. Daffodils, tulips, crocus, grape hyacinths and fritillarias are just some of the plants to choose from. Planting any particular bulb at the right depth is important to get the resulting flowering head next year. Look at the chart that gives some popular examples and follow the instructions for your particular bulb. In general, bulbs should be planted in holes three to four times as deep as the bulb itself. so, the bigger the bulb, the deeper the planting. In terms of layering so as to get first one flowering and then another (using bulbs that flower at different times) then be aware not to overdue it. For instance, plant pots and window-boxes with no more than two layers of bulbs to prevent unsightly flowering of shoots appearing through the dying foliage of the earlier ones you put in. Most garden centres start to wind down bulb

sales in the run up to Christmas so if you struggle to find supplies then mail order is the other way - and these will be a useful source for you to plant out in October/November time. Do bear in mind their final location: sunny/part shade etc as this is just as important with bulbs as with other types of flowering plant. Bulbs may seem magical but they can’t perform miracles! In terms of soil, if planting in pots a good multipurpose compost will suffice for most bulbs. If planting in soil then make sure the above advice applies re the position when they flower and ensure that the soil is well drained (to avoid the bulb rotting), adding some grit and compost at the bottom of the planting hole if it seems a bit claggy.
Planting now may seem a little fruitless as you will be looking at a pot full of compost or bare soil on the face of it - not quite the same as putting in a shrub which you see immediately, but your efforts will be repaid time and time again each year for free! Lillies are a good example as they flower so beautifully each year and even multiply so you get more each time. As always - learn a little more and gain each season and, as always... enjoy!

Welcome to the first of our special travel section. Each month, sponsored by My Travel Guys, you will be given top tips and advice to get the most from your holidays.
LAS VEGAS , NEVADA. LOVE IT OR LOATHE THE VERY IDEA OF IT – YOU CERTAINLY CAN’T IGNORE IT. “Of all the wonderful cities we have toured over the years, Las Vegas is without doubt the most misunderstood – particularly amongst those who have yet to visit. The first time we stopped off there was during one of our US road trips and, like most ‘first timers’ we thought that we’d then say ‘been there, done that - cross it off the list!’ We did return though and whilst enjoying the finest steak we’ve ever had, we started a conversation with a friendly waiter who told us about the real Vegas, his Vegas. Over the years, ‘Mike’ and his family became our friends and went out of their way to show us all the city and surrounding area have to offer. From the obvious but unmissable Grand Canyon helicopter tour to skiing (yes, in the desert!) at Mt Charleston (11,289ft), as well as tours to the Hoover Dam. There’s so much more to Las Vegas than the casinos and show girls – you just have to look around. The dining, shopping and entertainment options are endless, as of course are the casinos where you can pretend you’re James Bond for the evening and try to break the bank. Be warned though – we’ve tried and although we remember some success, there’s only one real winner…. “the house will always win!”… Perhaps the most appealing thing about Las Vegas is the ease in which you can get there. Daily flights from the UK have improved things considerably and its close proximity to the major US cities in California which can be reached by inexpensive internal flights and doing what we tend to do, tailor make a road trip itinerary and see more of the amazing mountains and scenery including the breathtaking Yosemite National Park, Death Valley, Mojave Desert and Joshua Tree National Park. San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Palm Springs and even Napa Valley are all relatively easy to connect to and whenever we have put a road trip together for our family and friends, they always come back thirsty for more. We will cover the great cities of California some more in future articles. So there you have it. “LV” isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but we’ve yet to find anyone who hasn’t agreed it’s unmissable, unmistakable and unique. Something for everyone? We think so…. And of course remember – “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!” MY TRAVEL GUYS If you’re interested in tailor made holidays or would like help planning any trip please contact us on 07455 393949.
